This just shows that great sound doesn’t have to cost a damn fortune. That Luxman deck sounds great, but the sound coming from your phone just proves what I first said. Loves me some Mike Watt and Minutemen, btw. “Flying the Flannel” was one of my absolute faves back in the day. Thanks, Sean. Great presentation! 🎶🔊🙂
Sorry to disappoint the below naysayers - Thanks for showing how to get great sound with just an old Marantz receiver and Luxman turntable. This is definitely way better than folks showing how we cannot get great sound unless we remortgage our homes. Maybe, one day you might consider selling just the drivers for us DIY folks who do not need such beautiful cabinets, but enjoy great sound "Music". Thanks
Um, sorry to disappoint the above forgetful-sayer but you forgot the $4500 pair of speakers in a room that's too small and too bright and would hugely benefit from a very affordable bean bag chair.
@@michaelwright1602 Not in 2013. I bought a 2235B recapped/relamped/restored for 400 in 2012. Was the last old receiver of many I picked up and sold again between 1993-ish and 2012. Word got out, largely in conjunction with vinyl resurgence. Wish I'd held on to a couple of others.
Felt compelled to return to comment, not on the video, but on the comments. What a crappy community. First, you will not hear anything close to what the folks in that room are hearing on your phone, computer or whatever. Second, why the hate on this guy explaining placement? It is no wonder the hi-fi hobby isn't that popular.
Unfortunately, in many of the same ways as the fine-wine community , it’s one that likes to eat itself. Too many propeller heads have forgotten that it’s about having fun , first and foremost . Met Sean a bunch of years ago when he brought the gang over to our local hi-fi show. guess which room I ended up spending the most time in ?
It’s utube. The clip is called set up tips. Sean is a quite respected engineer in the industry. His company has a pretty big waiting list. His speakers are known for having phenomenal imaging. His company known for being helpful and very supportive. The last week dressed sales person I spoke to in a store was a jerk on commission with an buy something or leave attitude. Lot of dumb comments here. Apparently you guys get your clothes at Ralph Lauren., and have a Dyne Audio special forty speaker in your I phone. Those Best Buy guys sure look snappy in those logo shirts.
Well the "finger ports" are definitely Zu specific. And generally if you're getting too much bass with any floor stander, raising them up will help even out the bass response. In that room though, bass is not the issue.
If you put your finger on your speaker when it's playing and you can feel vibration, then yes, it should be off the ground on some sort of feet. This translates to almost any speaker... except stuff like a Majico... and some other high $ stuff with super built cabinets, and new generation stuff with the Plinth included in the design, as long as you use the plinth and feet... See, the cabinet is vibrating, and that is part of the sound, like a guitar body is... so if it's is not allowed to vibrate the way it was built to, the sound will suffer.
@@bc527c I have a pair of Magico S1MKII. The cabinets on them are of incredible build quality. They are some of the most well built speakers out there.
@@klewja I have a friend who has Magicos..., which I call Magicals. They are the best pure reference speaker made, I reckon, and yeah, their cabinets are like a tank. And Magico's drivers are isolated/decoupled from the cabinet so they have taken care of the interface to the floor problem in the design, but at a very high cost that is well beyond most of us. I use his system as my reference point for many things.
Very nice sounding and looking(!) speakers, but unfortunately not(or hard) to get here in Holland. I have a similar room, maybe a little wider, but not much.(Amsterdam). I play also with a vintage (totaly restored) Sansui AU-505, with Dali Oberon 5,sounds great but looks "boring" , average. Nice designed speakers!
The guy is sitting in his sofa, it's obviously THE place where he listens, and will listen. So the speakers are absolutely not at the right place 90° on the right... There is a lot of place straight in front of the sofa to put the 2 speakers apart, just use a bit more cable length... A lot of sound absorption is also needed, unless you really want a cathedral acoustic...
Uhhh… Sean literally demonstrated where the listening spot is. The owner was just sitting there so that he wasn’t blocking the camera view of the video & video host
It could be the speakers or possibly the recording technique, but I expected better sounding audio in this clip (especially from a company that sells $64k speakers!) Watt rules.
So you can hear a digitally squished "interpretation" of what they heard...through a .68 cent sound card and the speakers in your laptop? Go hear them live man. Audio cannot be done with the click of a mouse...well, GOOD audio for your room, anyway. ;)
Room sounds over bright Echo also. The big talker should of said something About it. What can you do. Spike speakers down Speakers manufacturers Has to ask owner what speakers are sitting on deep carpet. Then he sends it
I understand marketing. You don’t want to go the audiophile mad money route, though you don’t want to appeal to the pseudo hipster w a eames chair. Lol. Keep it simple. Keep it down to earth. Suggest carpet. And that silver reindeer. You kidding me man. Like this is going to convince me to drop even a G on the dirtys?????
It's youtube, of course, but still: hated the sound from this room made by these speakers. Is this just a room? Just the amp? Speakers? I want to be proven wrong about these speakers. But this particular video doesn't do this.
Lanegan is of screaming trees origin and respected for nearly 4 decades as the musician's musician. Enjoy your Diana Krall and Steely Dan aja ad nauseum.
Check the guy on the Right. He thinks he's Machine gun Kelly or Little wayne. Room sucks. Or speakers suck There missing a driver also. At least 2 way sir
Why would you listen to such God aweful music as a demo? That would seem to me a good why to make people think your speakers sound like hammered shit. So that old Marantz receiver has an MC phonostage?
This is how you build a brand. Well done.
i wish Sean just showed up one day to all of his customers homes and said hey man can we check out your set up?

There is nothing wrong with Marantz nor Luxman. The room suck, maybe it is a man-cave emphasis on the cave!
Try and find a fresh old Marantz receiver, I about fell over! That old Marantz is a $4000 unit on the used market!

LOL, love it best speaker setup advice ever.
Couple of Native American blankets on the walls would look great and help the sound by cutting reflection

Wondering how long I will have to make my feet upwards of the included feet's height? Another interesting buyer tweak available to Zu customers.
Which Mike Watt song is that playing?
I love zu audio speakers but it's very very expensive.
How would a set of Isoacoustics Gaia feet work with Zu speakers?
If I owned that Marantz unit, I may think about it... I was looking for something a bit more.
Does that tip about air space underneath the speaker apply to other brands of speakers? Or is this specific to the design of Zu Audio speakers?
Well the "finger ports" are definitely Zu specific. And generally if you're getting too much bass with any floor stander, raising them up will help even out the bass response. In that room though, bass is not the issue.
Ideally subs should be higher up off the ground. Even ear level would be best.

The right speaker was WAAAAAAAY boomier than the left one.
I know its been a while since you wrote this, but its because of the position of the microphone you can see on the left in the video 😉

Speakers seem really low down
Hi guys, the Souls sound good. Did you use the bass control in the Marantz 2245 ? Thanks.
Sorry in this highly reflective room nothing sounds good. And a floor carpet will not do the trick.
I cannot agree with you more! My bathroom sounds better!
Like my grandma living room. Waste of time watching this
The ideas about wall panels will do it also book cases draped over windows. It does work man
I guess the owners exacting architectural requirements include a room that sounds like a train station.
ROOM TREATMENT AMATEURS !!!!!!!!
But not dont go overboard like some audiophiles do.
Awww dude...that room SUuuuuuuuuuuuuuucked badly! echo echo echo echoechoechoechoechoecho
I just ordered some GIK Acostics panes for my DWs. My room sucks. At least that room looks symmetrical
It's a square, or very short rectangle. The only absorbsion really is the rug, & not much. The couch would be no help really, by design.
Sean, if you digg that shit, you might enjoy the King Crimson. Red album. Some bad ass tunez

Be better if you played Ghost busters music.
Che nerds allucinanti.
It sucks is right. Did you ever hear the word. Tube trap ?? Yes chuck has artists ideas. lol
too bad Loth-X went out of business
why because he's not a format snob and its not the format its the encoding that matters, low bitrate equals bad sound.
Ok, I just picked up a pair of Zu Druid MK V Rev. A, they sound no where near this bad, LOL

It is very difficult to record audio from speakers with such a microphone.

Incorrect. They are not the same. $500 says they are all slightly different frames from a photo shoot with his wife and child.
Ok, 1980 technology with wizzer cones, coax speakers sucked then and now. Snake oil
Speakers to low, rooms a reverb nightmare. Sitting position all off axis.
From what I can hear you got multiple reflection issues.

I hope so.
