Yes, you are correct. There is no other way since they do circles during firefighting. Regarding the water scooping versus drops, we are trying to keep a distance from dropping zones: 1) for our safety and 2) to avoid disturbing the firefighting. We are always striving for the best result.
Understood and thanks for the reply. The water drop is the hard part and totally understood. Who knows exactly where the next drop will be made and where to set up for the best and safest angle on it. But that’s automatically what makes it the most interesting part. I notice too on other videos showing the drop - the camera will follow the plane/helicopter as it banks out and away. I want to see the result of the drop. Was it effective? Did they hit the target? Did the fire get significantly extinguished? I know, I know it’s tough to get that. I’m just saying that’s the really exciting part.
I see a title saying helicopter battles fire. The 1st thing i see is a jet making a fire drop. Plus i wonder if the pilots know it is easier to put out a fire if they drop the water on the part that is burning.

As bad as wildfires are (and even more so the people causing them) they always come with quite a air show!
