This song is basically about all of the different cities they’re from.
Namjoon is from Ilsan
Seokjin is from Gwacheon
Hoseok is from Gwangju
Yoongi and Taehyung are from Daegu
Jimin and Jungkook are from Busan
It's really weird for me as a Korean that he didn't know this lol. To me they all have really distinctive accents, but I guess it's hard to tell if you don't speak Korean. If you don't mind me asking, where are you from? I'm from Jinju.
Kyungseok Choi I’m from Incheon, but my parents are North Korean refugees, and apparently I’ve sort of picked up their weird accent haha.
I'm pretty sure Tae is not exactly from Daegu, he moved to there pretty young tho, but even on the stage there's 6 signs, and only JM and JK are from the same city

By the way, the reason Jimin keeps saying Busan is because that’s where he’s from. Jungkook also.
And Suga and Taehyung are from Daegu. That’s why Suga says “I’m a D-boy.” It’s also the reason his alternate name is Agust D. The D stands for Daegu.

062-518 means 062:the number of the city J-hope was born and grew up; 518-the date of the democracy movement happened in that city. This means a lot to the Koreans and I am so proud that he has written it in his lyrics.
2. Suga said that blood transfusion is hard for him because of the blood inside of him is blue. He wrote this line to say that he is DIFFERENT and that he is a genius lol
3. The stage is actually a busstop/train station with the names of their city. The boys are sitting under the name of the city they are born. Oh my god they are so cute!!
The blue blood means the colour of Samsung Lions, Korean baseball team, which is based in Daegu. He shows off his loyalty and pride for the team.
tunadoughnut Right. But blue blood in Korea usually more means the nobles. If you look deeper the explanation can also be found but most of the Koreans will think of the nobles when they first hear. Well I am a big fan of the team because a family member of mine works for the team. But anyway.

Actually, Yoongi produced a song called "518-062" for his previous group D-Town. In that song they talk about what happended that day. Very good song :)

Well if you look into the whole korean surname history you would know that after the war a lot of people took the royal surnames for themselves that’s why there’s a lot of Kim’s, Park’s and Jung’s (probably a few other ones I don’t remember)
@@adelewoop7750 Lee, Park and Kim are the most popular. Those surnames were royals surnames in the past
Korean at earlier dynasty don't need to use surnames (not that important) but start to use it when another country start influence them, especially western because those legal documents need at least two names to be made while in the past people just use one name.
I don't know where you come from but in my place there's still lot of people only have one name so they have to add their father's name when they need to make passport etc

yes! he's actually from Geochang. Geochang is a little country side town about an hour away from Daegu and cause Daegu is so well known and is a big city and Geochang is not and also cause they're so close, people from Geochang can be said that are from Daegu.
062-518 is the date of the gwangju uprising, one of the most important moments in korean history. it means a lot to the people of gwangju and hobi himself obviously, as its citizen.
just a bit of the background of the song:
this is about the cities they were born! none of the members where born in seoul, so this is them taking pride in their hometowns. hobi was born in gwangju, at the south of the country; yoongi and tae are both from daegu, jimin and jungkook were born in busan, namjoon is from ilsan and seokjin was born in gwacheon.
the thing behind them on the live performance has every name of each city, that's why during their verses some of the members stand up under the sign of their hometown.
mt. mudeung is a mountain that represents gwangju, so that's why hobi says even if his steps take him to the mountains he will end up in mt. mudeung. i see that as him saying that no matter where he goes, he will always remember his roots, but i could be wrong.
also in hobi's verse "dial up 062-518": 062 is gwangju's telephone area code. 518 is a democratic movement.
in yoongi's verse "getting a blood transfusion is hard, my blood runs blue": the samsung lions is daegu's professional baseball team and their official color is blue. yoongi is a fan of them so it could he a reference to that.
they use satoori (dialects) of their respective regions in some parts of the song. probably one of my favorite songs in their entire discography.

The boys come from DIFFERENT cities, and they are each talking about their respective cities, their memories and what these places mean to them. Namjoon says he would not move to any other city ... Then you understand why they Love their ROOTS, their home.
Namjoon is from Ilsan; Hobi is from Gwangju, Jin is from Gwacheon; Yoongi and V are from Daegu (the city which suffered the most from COVID-19), and Jimin & JK are the Princes of Busan (by the sea in the south). Last year, Busan city held a spectacular musical water fountain show to celebrate JK’s birthday!

062 is gwangju province's phone number and 5.18 is the day when the democracy movement started in gwangju. Also they gathered at 7 o'clock for the protest!! As a korean, 5.18 is very monumental day to remember! And j-hope used that line to show that he is proud of his hometown!! Also the reason why suga said blue blood is because daegu's baseball hometeam color is blue.

Yeah, yeah, Jimin does take a rest when he can. Know why? Because he's usually going beyond his limits, and sometimes dancing injured. So he takes these little ad lib breaks, to help pace himself, so he doesn't collapse on stage. He saves most of the collapsing for behind scenes after a song. When he sweeps his hair back, he's getting sweat out of his eyes. When he let his jacket drop off one or two shoulders, he's taking pressure off painful, injured shoulders. When he bends over for a moment, or kneels down, in a stylish way, he's catching his breath. When he does an ad-lib kick, he's often getting a piece of debris off the stage. During Dionysus, if the crew has not put the chairs in order as the set-ups progress, he gets in there and helps them. Respect.

None of the members was born in City of Seoul, they came from 5 different city means they speak different dialect. In the song they're talking about the beautiful places in their city and they're proud that they were born and raised there. Their City is also very proud of them being the biggest boyband rn. The fact that they made a song about their city is so beautiful. When you go to their city there is a tarpaulin of the members.

It's been 2 years, and the original concert video is not even on YT anymore because the account is closed! So great to be able to see it here.
As a few others said before me - this song is just showing their home pride. Each member comes from a different city in Korea but they all met, trained and lived in Seoul as teens. Seoul speaks what it's called "standard Korean" and people coming from different provinces have their local accents/slang which is called satoori in Korean. From what I understand Seoul people often make fun of ppl speaking satoori. Also in early days some BTS members were lauged at or belitteled by kpop comunity (mostly fans of other groups, coming from Big 3 companies whose trainees often come from Soul) because of their accents.
For me this song is just showing that they don't care about that criticism anymore and are actually proud to be coming from all these different areas in Korea, outside of the capital. If you look closely at the stage, above that bench there are names of all their home town written in Korean and whenever a member raps or sings, he stands directly underneath the name of his home town.
I love '"Ma City" live performance because it's just a great hype song with rock feel to it, I love those raspy vocals and their amazing energy on stage. I highly reccomed another live performance of the same song (link coming soon, need to find it first).
I also would reccomend "Paldogangsan (Satoori rap)" - a song made by the rap line before the band had even debuted. They included it on their O!RUL8,2? album, there is even a live performance with all 7 members performing it. I would additionally reccoment the explanation video from DKDKTV because David really explains all details about this song very well, especially some history background about relationship between certain regions in Korea and also linguistic nuances.

In Korea, there is severe regionalism in politic and the red symbolizes right wing, the blue symbolizes left wing. Daegue is the most iconic city of right wing. So that’s why Suga said he cant recieve blood transfusion in Daegu because has blue blood(left wing)

Hobi said he used to dance in the streets, and a lot of people know him, that´s why in his verse appear something about his show. J-Hope is de Gwanjhu, Jeolla-do (South of Gwanjhu). Jimin and JungKook are from Busan. V is from Geochang, but he lives ir Daegu. Suga is from Daegu too, Jin is from Gwacheon, and Namjoon or RM is from Ilsan. :3 And all of them live together now in Seoul

hobi's last line is REALLY cool tho. the line about "gather at 7 , dial 062-518" is referring to the uprising in gwangju. 7 as in 7'clock where gwangju is on the korean map. 062 is the area code and 518 refers to the 18th of may of when it took place
