Great overview and explanation. I'd even say the best UA-cam video on these two products. Convinced me to go with the Explorer with all the extra features. Thank you. From Australia
Excellent overview and instruction. Got all the important descriptions and options in in a very concise video. I just bought the Explorer+ and you answered a lot of questions for me. Great job!
Glad you liked the video and we were able to help you out! I was just recently on a bow hunt and used my SE to message some people back at camp and tell them I needed help and where i was. Worked like a champ! They used my text location to get right to me. Thanks for watching.-Chase
So I could keep the InReach on my physical person and use my phone as a mirrored screen of the GPS? That's wonderful. In case of major dismount, I'd prefer to have a means of communication on me and not the bike. Genius.
Hi Chase at Rock Mountain, Sorry until now I found your video very interesting details. I apology, It's kind late here cause, your video about 6 yrs. old. I just would like to send a thank you for sharing your tips and details here. Keep doing a great work. Which why I chose Subscribed.
Yes this does have the ability to give weather updates and will include wind direction and speed. There are a couple videos on UA-cam about just the weather functionality if you want to see exactly what is displayed on the weather updates.
I am looking for a GOS device that I can use while hiking creeks from gold mining, and to be able to use to mark GPS locations for gold mining claims. I am unclear how the GPS works on the SE+. Does it have a map on the screen while using it? Does it tell you distance and direction to GPS you already marked out? I am not looking for something to take on long hikes, so I am thinking the Explorer + would be overkill.
The Se does not have detailed maps. You can mark and navigate to waypoints but it's a simple line on the screen, but it does give distance and direction. Honestly, I would get the inreach Mini and use the earthmate app. I'd also really consider the InReach Mini. But there are also a lot of GPS's out there that have detailed topo maps that you can mark and navigate with that you don't have to pay extra for the communication features if you don't want those. I have a Garmin Rino and love it! - Chase
As long as your phone has power, then the mini is a good choice. However, I will say that I've experienced some issues with my SE+ not staying connected to my phone so I was forced to use the unit its self. Right now Garmin is working on a solution as to why i've had this issue. In this case, I was happy I had the SE+ vs. the mini which is a nightmare to text on. The SE+ isn't great either, but much easier than the mini. - Chase
Can someone make a payment over the phone on the monthly plan in order to get service? Or maybe there is some kind of prepay in advance of a use? Would be using this for emergency purposes, so if I'd have to make a payment over a land line/cell before the thing works, then that would kinda nullify the appeal for me. I also wonder, if I'd get a "busy signal" if there was some kind of catastrophe, and a significant number of people in the area were making calls over the satellite network.
I haven't done that before, but i'm sure you can call in to make a payment. I use the freedom plan so I can freeze my service when I'm not using it. Only takes a couple minutes to do.
If after an hour of trying to figure out how to download a route to my GPS, and I still have not succeeded, I consider the product a failure. Will have to enlist someone to do this for me.
*SoCalFreelance* We hear you there. But, for the peace of mind having this technology and the safety it provides at the tips of your fingers is a price worth paying. Thanks for tuning in and watching our videos.
Do these devices talk (text) to cell phones or only other GARMIN satellite devices? Or can, say, a family member with only an iPhone text to your device?
@@rmatvmc Thanks for the info. Another question. If I have the Garmin device but no subscription, can the family member with the iPhone still text me and if so who gets charged and how???
So I have a question. What if I was really far out in a very remote area, and I was attacked by another human but defended myself up to ending the other persons life. But if I hiked back to service range to call 911 the scene would almost definitely get disturbed. If a animal never ate the body or anything along those lines. Should I still sit my gun down and hike back to call? Or sit the gun down and SOS immediately? I am genuinely concerned as I live in a place with a lot of crazy people and I would like to start hiking. But I’m afraid of something like this happening and doing something wrong(order of events in a way)in a situation after defending myself.
Nicely done. So glad you compared the2 as it helps. just not liking those high monthly charges when comparing the value to Spot messenger. Thanks again. Can you use your Smart phone keyboard to text with the SE as well ?
What if I get TRAPPED inside d building and the RESCUERS are 10 kiometers away from my location, do u think that the OBSTACLES will not hamper the signal..?
That is a very good question. You do need a clear view of the sky to get a satellite connection so my honest answer would be yes, in that case, there could be good chance of having the signal disrupted.-Chase
Definitely a tool worth having! I just got back from a week long Idaho archery hunt and didn't have service the entire time. My Inreach was my only communication and although I didn't have an emergency, it's the peace of mind, considering we had a giant mountain lion walk past us at 15 yards!. - Chase

Glad it was helpful!
These devices (from that, or from another brand) save lives EVERY day!

Isn't this the device that dirtbike channel was talking about the other day? Ironic. I'm not even mad, I'm impressed.
Chase you did it again! I am surfing online trying to find a feature comparison SE to Explore and who comes up.... should have just come here first!
Glad you liked the video and we were able to help you out! I was just recently on a bow hunt and used my SE to message some people back at camp and tell them I needed help and where i was. Worked like a champ! They used my text location to get right to me. Thanks for watching.-Chase

Excellent presentation!!.😎🇺🇲
Does it have in time weather forecasts & updates? And if yes, does it include wind speed. Canoe guide, multiple days, middle of nowhere.
Yes this does have the ability to give weather updates and will include wind direction and speed.
There are a couple videos on UA-cam about just the weather functionality if you want to see exactly what is displayed on the weather updates.
How does the gps and other maps work do you need a subscription to use maps or just the message part ?
To use the GPS and almost all the features besides messaging, no, you do not have to have a subscription.
Thanks I need a GPS and am researching right now!
you bet. Let us know if you have any other questions.-Chase
Do you guys sell PLDs by ARC or any others. We ride in heavy tree covered canopy areas and require a more powrful stronger signal to get threw?

No, you don't need it for the GPS.
Hi I think you mean You don't have Cell Phone Service. but i like your video.
Sounds like if you really need to pair with your smartphone for better use you may as well get the inreach mini

Is there any monthly subscription?
the se+ is $165 less. i dont know where you're from but thats not "a little more". what exactly would i be getting for that?
If after an hour of trying to figure out how to download a route to my GPS, and I still have not succeeded, I consider the product a failure.
Will have to enlist someone to do this for me.
Would be nice if FRS was built in, no charge to use it locally.

They can text any number that accepts text messages. So yes, a family member with an Iphone can text you. - Chase

New Tracker Packer for Garmin inReach now available at Rocky Mountain ATV & MC now!
does it have the bird's eye satellite view with that subscription?
The explorer plus comes with the satellite imagery.
Can you post to social media?
Could you realistically use the Explorer+ for turn by turn nav on the handlebars?
Curious if it could replace a Zumo 396.
No. This unit will not give driving directions like a Zumo would. It just gives a straight line to your destination.
Nicely done. So glad you compared the2 as it helps. just not liking those high monthly charges when comparing the value to Spot messenger. Thanks again. Can you use your Smart phone keyboard to text with the SE as well ?
Yes u can use keyboard
What languages does it have? Russian?
Does SOS work if u have no data credit
No
Do you know off hand if this shows tracks from rino users?
Seth Hammond this does not
The SOS button, shouldn't it be protected to prevent an accidental SOS transmission?
TGB 81 it is , you haft to open the little sos cap & then press it
How much are they..???
Currently starting at $399-449. www.rockymountainatvmc.com/p/4629/73200/Garmin-inReach-SE%2B
EARTHMATE map oh my goodness I couldn't figure out what he was saying.
Is the se+ compatible with onx chips
*scot mcalexander* Good question. OnX's website is showing they are not compatible with the Garmin InReach. Thanks for asking.
@@rmatvmc Damnit all. That and snowmobile trail maps would be nice to be able to put on. Any clue there?

Do these link to spotwalla?
Not that i'm aware of-Chase

When the battery stops charging /dies, it becomes a paperweight.
Antiquated and unreliable.
I’m interested to know where you had problem with this satellite gps and which model did you have ?
