I had the privilege of growing up in Nanaimo and have so many fond memories of the magnificence and natural beauty of Vancouver Island. Unfortunately, we moved to Southern California when I was about 16 years old and in retrospect I didn't really appreciate what a wonderful place Nanaimo and the island is. There is nothing in California that can compare the wilderness type lifestyle of Nanaimo and Vancouver Island. I would trade California living in a heartbeat to be able to return to Nanaimo to live out the remainder of my retirement years.
