I love how this just turned into a running gag of Toad jumping off a cliff and then safely landing on ground below.
And I loved it every single time. The genuine panic of chat and Smant had me grinning the whole time.

I think the main reason it gets overlooked is cause of 3D World
unpopular opinion: 3D world is overrated
The story of his teacher yelling “DONT ROLL YOUR EYES AT ME” for him avoiding eye contact had me having flashbacks of the exact same thing happening to me in kindergarten…shame that that’s a common occurrence.
I just don't look at ppl and if I do I make sure to maintain eye contact for as long as possible and don't blink because I don't like when people look at me, and as a lil child who plays too many video games I'm used to not blinking so I just stare for a solid 2 minutes until they buzz off
yep same.. i don't get why it's always those female cranky old teachers..they interpret anything into something so sinister and malicious..
My math teacher in high school was talking shit at me for no reason, then paused. He hadn't asked a question and I maintained eye contact. He then gave me detention for "staring". I wasn't staring, I was trying to be polite by listening to him. Was I supposed to look away or stare out the god damn window? I did not attend that detention because the reasoning was dumb and fuck that guy.
I had that several times because I'm on the autistic spectrum, and used to have trouble with eye contact.
I've had similar issues. I'm autistic and really struggle with direct eye contact, so one time a teacher was talking to me and ordered that I look her in the eyes even though she knew I'm autistic and whatever we were talking about wasn't serious enough for direct eye contact.
Kinda messed up that a lot of people have issues with teachers who can really leave an impression on young people

I love the compact diorama feel this game has, if something is there you can interact with it. And the details like fact that the devs knew that people would find an infinite lives trick so they made crowns at 1000 lives... it's very nice. The only down side is the non existant replayability: once you finished it 100% it's done... wich says a lot about the quality.
Thats the same for the vast majority of games tho

That's something I love about the Mario Galaxy games, there's a way to use almost every single mechanic no matter the situation it feels so immersive
Well, not to be pedantic but there's also a crown for 1100 lives and one for 1110 lives.
As someone who has beaten this game more than once, it's so weird when he's confused about not having 3d world or odyssey gimmicks

Man I remember the suprise when I played all 8 worlds and there were 8 more! As a kid I played this game to 100% completion and loved it.
I played it for first time a few months ago. Wasn't for me, but if you're a kid and its one of your first Mario games I can understand how people could enjoy it.
That's how I felt about NSMB for the DS, a game less fondly remembered now, but since it was the one I played first as a child it's just got a special magic to me.
I like that it took him no time at all to find a way to get infinite lifes.

I remember buying the 3DS when it first came out, but having basically nothing to play on it for quite a while. So I was ecstatic when this game came out, and absolutely floored when I thought I beat it only to unlock the second half. Good memories, indeed!
Also, I never knew about the max lives symbol, nor the P-Wing Block. Thanks for showing me something new in an old favorite, Mr. Ant.

As a kid, I literally beat this game so many times I had memorized where every Star Coin was in the main 8 worlds and World S1.
Once I got to S2 tho i was kinda fucked

Which means he's more like 45% done, since the last level is pretty damn hard.

As a brief explanation, the development was disrupted by the devastating earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan in 2011. Following that, the team used the game both as a way to stay positive themselves, and were determined to produce a product that would bring as much joy to the people suffering from the natural disasters as possible. That genuine love and care for the product really shines through, and you can clearly see how much the game meant to the people working on it.

As someone who had this game before playing 3D World, I 100% agree with SmallAnt. The movement is so limited, but it's got tons of charm, neat gimmicks, and cool environments. 3D World however really pulls the concept together imo.
Finally, i've been waiting for this moment for a long time, since this game doesn't get the recognition it deserves. Thank you for playing one of my favourite games ever

Aw man, I love this game. It's one of the surprisingly few 3DS games that takes full advantage of the 3D feature, and even without it, it's an absolute blast.

this game is very good for being the groundwork for 3D world and any future game that mixes the 2D formula but in 3D, I especially like how huge and open some of these levels are, like 4-1 I think? The exploration mixed with this normal gameplay is so fun and satisfying, and they seemed to take note in bowser’s fury

I remember playing this entire game on release with the 3D mode the intire time, was awesome. My room mates were like how can you keep you hands so steady to have it not suck? Im a very focused gamer lol, the NEW 3DS made the 3D features so much better. Love this game so much and the luigi run for the extra 8 worlds is awesome
