Thanks a Ton Daryl! Followed everything including links and made the purchases , which were very reasonable. Already had a 12 volt power supply from my mame/jamma cab and powered up everything and it's a thing of beauty when you hear that solenoid snap shut for the first time.
Great videos ! Do you happen to have a video step by step on the config software for virtual pin .. I have same setup but 10 hours later still can’t get it to work 😩 ready to closet it again another year
Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video. I've been dabbling in force feedback and there's so much information out there and your video is simple informative and instructional. Very awesome so thank you again I would love to see a video on how to interact with a visual pinball next.
If adding coils to VP cabinet and you want to understand the diode piece of the equation in video, here is a good video for the reverse biased diode to block the voltage from coming backwards into the solenoid (ua-cam.com/video/6lep5e3KMdY/v-deo.html). I'm upgrading from the same 12v Amazon coils like ones in the video to stronger pinball specific coils that pack more punch. Example: www.marcospecialties.com/pinball-parts/090-5036-01 or 090-5036-OT on Ebay, diode already installed. Many of the commercial pinball coils have the diode installed already for this same purpose, to block the voltage in 1 direction for the coil. This coil 090-5036-01 is rated for 50v but will trigger @ 12v. I used this coil as my Knocker coil, works great. So far no heat issues and no fires.
thanks for posting this. the diodes you are suing the 1N4004 - they say 1.1v max, so this is OK to use given 12v power supply , and how do you attach the diode ? sorry if this is a silly question, this kind of eletronics is new to me. I am adding a couple of central locking solenoids as flipper feedback usin ghe same sainsmart relay you have. thank you for any help !
Perfect.. this is exactly what I needed.. Will this work with the 4 port? I read that it will only work with the Sanesmart 8 port board? Can you please post 1 more update video with how you got all this to gel with the pinball software? I've been reading up bit it's really confusing.. What is the diode in between +12v and - for the bumper?
Hi m8 , hey is there any chance you could do video on how to set up bumpers and shaker to one of the relays on the saint smart , been trying to find how to connect pinball bumpers to relay , subbed you too fella hoping you can help me , cheers marcho's arcade
Hello, I bought the Saints Smart 8-relay plate plus the 4004 diodes. I have a ledwiz plate and other things I would like to know if you have any connection scheme since thank you very much.
What type of board is that you are using for mounting? I remember in some other video someone saying that it conducts vibration well so you get the most feedback from it. I can't remember what its called though?
I'm using the same coils as in the video and do a lot of Flipper Holding. So far they can get a little warm but have not overheated or burned up yet. I check them regularly because I hold a lot. I see some other videos with guys using 12v Automotive starter relay solenoids because they are designed to be "held open" for longer periods of time.
Hi, can i use solenoids with sainsmart 8 ch relay without ledwiz? Is it possible? For example if i want to activate solenoids only when i press flipper buttons, can i do this also with solenoids and sainsmart? Thank you
i dont have a ledwiz .. just what I showed in the video. thats all you need to fire upto 8 things. ledwiz allows you to control even more things like leds :-)
The sainsmart connects via usb (be sure you get the right version!) .. then it acts like a game controller .. I believe I linked to software that can test it out and fire off the 8 ports via the program. VP has software called "DOF" that controls the sainsmart. A simplified rundown is you create a dof account on configtool.vpuniverse.com/login.php , map your switches to pinball actions .. ie port 1 might be your left flipper, port 2 might be your right etc. Then you download the files to your pin machine and it knows what to fire when.
Hi, sorry another question, may i use 24V contactor with sainsmart? Contactor like this... www.ebay.it/itm/232219457243?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
@@jenkinsljenkinssquire9137 Oh I misread your comment.. what are the for? The are DOF .. they way to add clink/clank noises to your virtual pin. DOF is some acronym for that.
@@jenkinsljenkinssquire9137 ...author probably wasn't being a smart ass... I think your question was just misread because its so surprising that someone could arrive at this page without actually knowing what they're watching... great attitude though.

Looking great! They will get much louder when attached to the cabinet for sure!

Its in the description .. No experience with a 4 port - if its usb, I dont see why it wouldnt work.

Sorry I have never done that. I wonder if it's strong enough..
Can anyone tell me why the diode is needed on the solenoids?

Thank you very much, it's all right, I have just such a video, now that the cable goes to the LedWiz board, so I can configure DOF
Do I need diodes if I’m using this custom board by Zebs? Zebsboards Opto Flipper Board
Sorry dont know about that..

Its like a pvc trim board from home depot.
Any overheating issues with the solenoids when staying energized (such as holding the flipper?)
Nothing that is within reason .. I can hold it for a minute or more.. These are not big 12v solenoids that could cause issues.
@@darylerwin That's good news. Thanks for the quick feedback!

Link ??? Wonderfull!!! Thanks!!!!
i am wondering too how to connect the Diodes. do you have a picture?
Thanks
I have the same question.
Connect it in parallel with the line/stripped side of the diode connected to the positive wire.
thank you
Hi Daryl, so is the 4004 diode there to protect the Arduino coil from when the 12v flipper coil is de-energized? Thanks for your video.
