@ No. very humble. The Mayflower Theatre in Southampton and her sister theatre The Palladium. I mainly sang at weddings or celebrations. Unfortunately, severe asthma robbed me of my voice quite a few years ago. 😒 How about you? 😊
As soon as I saw the butcher / fishmonger character in the thumbnail, I immediately remembered the opera-singing bit, but I didn’t remember any of the rest of the sketch - so it was fun the be reminded :)
Whitehouse has ties to Welsh National Opera as his mother Anita was Principal Soprano with the Company, taking the lead roles in both La traviata and Aida.
The outtake for this sketch was brilliant, it showcased why Paul Whitehouse is such a brilliant character actor, being able to switch between Lance and himself (specifically the facial expression) made the audience laugh.
Their best for me. Quite apart from Paul Whitehouse's singing, the whole idea you can be tone-deaf in English but not in Italian. Class. They're in a fish slab. I'm sure I've seen them in the States.
A story you may be interested in watching is called Obi One Nairobi who took on terrorists single handed in a hotel. He saved hundreds of hostages before killing the terrorists. He was a member of the SAS.

Great reaction as always bud, but i was fixed on the backround pics you have on the wall. You need one of forest gump, or jay from the inbetweeners, just wanted to point that out.
I was 25 and had 2 butchers shops and a fishmongers under Thatcher when this came out and we lived a dream for a few years. I am now a grandfather of 7 and piss poor under Labour. But I have a massive DVD collection of comedy like this to take my mind off current affairs 😁😇.
I think the Lee and Lance characters have different jobs in each sketch,in one they were mechanics in another they were plumbers and in this one they work on a fresh fish stand.
I went to see them live with my ex husband. He kept falling asleep and snoring and I kept nudging him awake (no reflection on the show) and by the time of the interval I just wanted to go home. So I pretended I wasn’t enjoying it because I didn’t want to hurt his feelings!
Great reaction. Perhaps also Try reacting to Harry’s funniest ever character ‘Pik’ (the South African personal trainer). He’s a bit rude but IMHO side splittingly funny. You will not regret it.
Amuses me cause, Whitehouse, the fishmonger ? in his England top.Banging out the Italiano, during Italia 90, which was the last great stand of English football hooliganism.
Sure its been suggested but I think you would Enjoy 'Mortimer and Whitehouse Gone Fishing' Two of your favorites...fishing 🎣 A little more sedate than your usual fare but definitely worth a watch.
A lot, and I mean A LOT, of our best known comedians can really carry a good tune. Booms, you don't sound so bad either. I'm now reminded of Les Dawson's skill to play out of tune, because he could play properly.
Listen to the Eurythmics song Who's That Girl for reference, Oh & please don't start playing acoustic guitar, begin joining a load of crusty ol' dudes before money becomes a thing and every member starts to drift away
As an experienced UA-camr, you're well positioned to jump into voice acting if you wanted, especially given the number of independent animators and animation studios on UA-cam. You could also start a second channel to experiment with character voice acting using a "PNGtuber" model.
Right, Boomer. Get a free guitar tuner app on your phone and start singing. I bet you £1000 you're within a few cents of pitch perfect. (I'll give YOU the grand if you ARE).
This is the exception that proves the rule - this is just AWFUL ! 🤦♂️ I don’t doubt it’s the pressure to cone up with X amount of sketches for that show , but this ‘filler’ should’ve been rejected imho 👍🏴
"The funniest sketch ever"??? You have got to be kidding? Boring build up to an underwhelming punchline. Please don't accept anymore recommendations from Kieron? 🙏🏼😖
I trained as an opera singer for decades. Paul Whitehouse’s mother was an opera singer so this really resonates with me! It’s so clever. 😊
Fascinating - never knew that about Paul, but I suspect it explains a lot about his genius.
Touching moment in ‘gone fishing’ when Bob handed Paul a vinyl recording of his mum singing
I never knew that!
WOW, i trained as an Opera singer for years too! 😃 Did you perform anywhere nice?
@ No. very humble. The Mayflower Theatre in Southampton and her sister theatre The Palladium. I mainly sang at weddings or celebrations. Unfortunately, severe asthma robbed me of my voice quite a few years ago. 😒 How about you? 😊
I remember this specific sketch so so well from my youth, I'd find myself at work randomly singing it even though it was 20+ or so years ago!
Who's that girl.... running around with youuuuuuu.

Haha man, bet your fun, was 'Largo La Factotum from the Barber Of Seville' sung by Annie Lenox ??
Paul's Mum was an opera singer, so he'd have been around it all his life
oh so in real life he's posh!??!
@@andywatts8654 nah he is welsh lol.. his dad was a miner i think..so half posh lol
One of my favourite sketches of theirs - this was in their heyday
Every time I hear that song, I am reminded of Mrs Doubtfire, and Robin Williams's opening the movie, singing that song.
RIP Robin Williams. Gone but not forgotten.
Paul Whitehouse played Grandad in Only Fools & Horses musical that was in the West End, talented singer…Harry also released a single, Loadsamoney

You should check out Paul Whitehouse and Bob Mortimer Go Fishing..... Their banter is amazing and addictive.
Second this!
I third it..have enjoyed watching every episode...Bob just cracks me up.
I fourth this. Yes, I said that.
It's a Fishmonger's Shop. They are selling them.
Selling Fish that is, not Fishingmonger's Shops.

Ha ha. Remember watching this the night it was on..Paul Whitehouse is a genius (even if he does support Tottenham 😂) Cracking show 👌
Harry and Paul did a BBC show on Opera. Funny and informative.
This bit is both iconic and Hilarious
The van drivers lament is a great little musical one they do also if you fancy it.
This sketch has popped into my head at least once a month for the past 20 years 😂
Wonder if Harry was gutted at losing the limelight, or pleased with a chill day, when Paul proposed ones like this
Wow, you've got a great voice! 👏👏

We get fresh fish sections like that in supermarkets over hear. At least we used to. Haven't seen one for about a decade or two, to be honest.
They are playing fishmongers, working in a fishmonger's shop.
Fishmongering?
