The Dragon Mine

- Where to start on this one. This is probably the most dangerous mine we have been in with the potential of collapses and changes of getting lost. About 5 years ago we made our first journey into the dragon mine, with the intentions of exploring the deep inner workings of the iron ore mine. Our maiden voyage was soon put on pause when a member of our exploring team broke off from our tandem group of 6, always have a partner with you just in case. Well, about an hour into the descent, we finally made our way to the main haulage way, the original goal. When we did a count off, we noticed we were short one member of the team. This journey ended up into a search and rescue mission. After about 5 hours of looking, with our batteries and backups to the point of needed to be recharged, we found our friend, safe, but shaken up. This mine is a maze, and an intimidating potential death trap. Opened in the 1880s, and shuttered in the 1920s, it was robbed of the pillars, creating entries that lead to other entries and dead ends. Each wrong turn you make could lead into 8 other options that only have one access to where you need to go, creating a literal rat maze, but the only thing is, if you’re lights go out before you find your way back, you’re done. So after tabling our return to slay the dragon for 5 years, Mr. Tropics 64 and I decide to go in one final time before it was too late.

Wow this one huge mine.
I see how you can get lost easily.
Belly of dragon for sure
It was a big one for sure, but small in comparison to the ones surrounding it. Hope you enjoyed it seeing the potential dangers

I differently like seeing inside
These mines.
Iam glad you document these mines.
Mines not same
Meaning mines done different away.
Getting ore out of mine
Hard to imagine the insane bravery the early miners had in a time of no health and safety and minimal resources. Thank you from Oamaru New Zealand.
Now there is your bug out mine. You could put a whole city in there. That is a really cool cave. Thanks for the adventure.
Oh it's Birmingham Alabamah I thought it was Birmingham Engand and I thought they ain't no mines in brum. I instantly subscribed as its Birmingham anyway so now I'll go enjoy your vidz. Love from Birmingham England
Your friend was lucky to make it out a live.
Agreed.
Heck, I'd pay to explore these historical sites. I tried to explore some of them when I was younger, but they were abandoned, flooded coal mines. You couldn't get far, and were probably better off for it. The best reason to do this sort of thing is probably that old saying, "Because it's there!!".
I was a SCUBA diver years ago, and did some cave diving, as well as wreck diving. Was it potentially dangerous and deadly? Yeah. Why did I do it? Because of the historical aspect, the curiosity - because it was there. Thanks so much, gentleman, for bringing us along.
You know you shouldn't forget your spinach either.
Nice big marine ball in the ceiling
Pretty cool to see this side of Bham. Normally I just think of horrible traffic and road construction 🤣
It's unbelievable what people did back then, with few resources. Dug so deep into the earth.
Agreed, 2.5 miles on some of them
Yall ever come my way into cleburne county/heglin area looking into all these old lost gold mines around arbacoochee mining district? I'm about 5 away and been hearing about them re opening some mines here.
The miners must have had to use. A lot of lanterns to like there way. Can't imagine.
Yea, early on an open flame too. Imagine that heat working with a fire on your head so you could see
@@UndergroundBirmingham I can't imagine. Where they using candles in those hats they wore?

They carry a empty coke bottle incase they need to breathe the oxygen in it
@@ROLFCOPTERZZ lol
Yes, meters and rescue breathers if we need them. Never have had an issue

You won't catch me in one of these rotten ass mines.
That's probably a good idea
So is there any precious metal ore left in this mine?
There's a good bit of iron ore left, just poor quality and not worth the expense to mine
They left plenty of support in there 🙄
