This level is a perfect example of how the music is timed to fit the gameplay. So that when you get to a certain point in the level the music swells and the beat kicks in. It's one of my favourite tracks in the game
I so agree with you! One of my favourite game theme's and game bosses. I've always thought the same as your comment about this theme. A steady buildup then when you get around to facing off Toasty, it kicks in. Amazing.
Me too! I’m playing Spyro reignited right now and I knew the boss looked a bit scarier in the original so I had to look it up. Indeed, he looks scarier in the original. Couple that with me being a little kid and that is why I was scared lol.
The full grown adult dragons in this game are so irresponsible. You free them and they just teleport away, leaving a mere juvenile to go fight all the baddies for them. Tsk.
For whatever reason this level didn’t scare me as a child, I was too busy jamming out to the badass music and being afraid of spiders (like ones in High Caves 😂)
Never have I wanted my old PS1 more than right now. This was my all time favorite Playstation game and I'm getting all nostalgic just thinking about it.
Reignited: “doggo” Original: Fucking hellhounds I’m positive this level was the whole reason I never replayed Spyro 1, as a kid. I played through 2 and 3 multiple times, especially 2, but not this one. This was a one-and-done game for me. Thank you, Insomniac, for giving me my first experience of a horror game before the age of 10.
I had a similar reaction... Not immediately, though. At first I was too busy basking in Toasty's awesome reaperness, and then, when I saw he was a sheep, I got so busy laughing, I couldn't think at all... But then, after I had defeated him, I felt that I really couldn't blame him for having joined Gnasty Gnorc, either. From Toasty's pov, I was probably a horrible, terrorizing monster, much like dragons are in classic works, and he was sheepkind's St. George... And I killed him...
Toasty is one of my favorite and only favorite places, I don't know why, but i think its the sunset mood, skies and colors also the ocean, its almost like a silent death place..
those dogs in the game used to scare the hell outa me, everytime i heard the noise they make before they charge used to make my brain freeze with terror
Yea I agree with u about the dogs. They scared the absolute hell outta me when I was a kid; several years later I play this game totally forgetting about them and I got squashed by them a couple of times b4 catching on how to beat them
Lo., I agree with everyone else down below. This word scared me when I was little and I was just thinking that when I first started watching but it was still one of my top favorite words.
"Gnasty Gnorc put one of his most devious henchmen..." Devious? One of the most devious things in the game is a sheep on stilts? LOL. Ah, I love Spyro. Even though this level and every level afterwards made me nervous XD
The sad thing is that Toasty's concept art probably has more real story then anything else associated with Spyro. It may be a joke but to the best of my knowledge, he's the only enemy Spyro has ever fought with an actual motive. If only he was given the lead in a game or two...
Artisan's Home seems and feels like a nice palacaae for Spyro and the other dragons to live in. It's beautiful and it seems like there is a lot to do. :D
I remember the first time i played this level that the boss would be some monster then when i saw toasty was a sheep i was confused thought i missed something and replayed the level and realised the joke One of the funniest subversions ever
I agree, the dogs scared me so much I gave the game back to my friend and never played it again; just downloaded it on my PSP and looking back, I can't believe how much smaller the dogs actually are - childhood fear conquerd!
I like how there was so much leading up to Toasty and how all the dragons were shit scared of him. You go through his level and he looks all scary and shit. Then in the end it turns out that he was just a fucking sheep dressed up. Most memorable boss I have ever encountered.
I played this for the first time in the reignited trilogy and saw toasty, immediatly wanted to see how it was in the original because my first thought was "this would have scared me as a kid"
man I REMEMBER THIS GAME BACK IN MY CHLIDHOOD PLAYIN SPYRO 1 2 & 3 WHAT IF BE HELLA TIGHT IF SONY REMAKE SPYRO 1 2& 3 BUT KEEP SPYRO'S VOICE ,MUSIC, & CHALLENGS BUT UPDATE THE GRAPHICS=)
God I used to hate those dogs so much.
Or those stupid redneck old guys.
This level is a perfect example of how the music is timed to fit the gameplay. So that when you get to a certain point in the level the music swells and the beat kicks in. It's one of my favourite tracks in the game

The pumpkin guy was fucking horrifying as a kid, the way he waited around that corner for you...
I agree with the dogs. They were hard and freaked me out so bad when I was young.
This level scared me as a kid..
+Skillica I blame those dogs. They were just so terrifying and I could never get out of their way.
Forget the dogs, man!
The portal itself is enough to scare little me away
Yep! The fact that the boss is really a sheep underneath just kills it for me!
Me too it's still kind of scares me a little I'm glad I wasn't the only one
Me too! I’m playing Spyro reignited right now and I knew the boss looked a bit scarier in the original so I had to look it up. Indeed, he looks scarier in the original. Couple that with me being a little kid and that is why I was scared lol.
Ok so its not so scary now....but when I was 5 it was pretty scary
Such a plot twist at the end
You mean by how a scary looking boss is actually a harmless sheep then you got that right
I love the trick you do with the dogs. Flame, drop and roll, turn, flame = roasted dead dog
The full grown adult dragons in this game are so irresponsible. You free them and they just teleport away, leaving a mere juvenile to go fight all the baddies for them. Tsk.
I know right!
But in the end, the mere juvenile (Spyro in this case) ended up being the hero.
I think they know Spyro can handle himself.
For whatever reason this level didn’t scare me as a child, I was too busy jamming out to the badass music and being afraid of spiders (like ones in High Caves 😂)
Never have I wanted my old PS1 more than right now. This was my all time favorite Playstation game and I'm getting all nostalgic just thinking about it.
reignited trillogy try it out first 3 games remastered
I always imagined the sheep herders with the dogs were saying "Work your bod!"
+Flavoaw1013 lol now thats all I am hearing
Reignited: “doggo”
Original: Fucking hellhounds
I’m positive this level was the whole reason I never replayed Spyro 1, as a kid. I played through 2 and 3 multiple times, especially 2, but not this one. This was a one-and-done game for me.

*bobbing head*
Yes let the nostalgia flow through you!
When I first fought toasty as a kid I was intimidated until...
To me it wasn't really scary when I was a kid as well.
Sheep on Stilts
I’m sayin! 🤣
In the end, the boss was nothing but a mere harmless sheep in a costume.
This boss only hurts you if you let him by standing close to him and not flaming him.
This song always cheers me up even after a lot going on
I don't care what anyone thinks, I love the old Spyro games, especially the second one.
You played reignited?
Yes, I made this comment 10 years ago lol TBH, it makes me cringe@@DamnZtar
@@SuperSpyroFan2010 how do you like reignited?
I enjoy it, Spyro 1 definitely has the most love.@@DamnZtar
When I Toasty revealed his true form, even if the glitch showed or not, I was like "What is that?!"
Toasty is one of my favorite and only favorite places, I don't know why, but i think its the sunset mood, skies and colors also the ocean, its almost like a silent death place..
@Bobevin™ Wow.. my comment is 11 years old.. also yes i agree. Thank you for the addition, I love Toasty’s track too
I have come here because Toasty is in the Ignited Trilogy trailer, and he looks amazing! ^^
September can't come sooner!!
Not to mention the music was traumatizing as well.
Shark boy and Lavagirl
how so?
it took me days to beat Gnasty Gnorc i finaly did it lol
Still scares me. I haven’t played Reignited yet but I will eventually
those dogs in the game used to scare the hell outa me, everytime i heard the noise they make before they charge used to make my brain freeze with terror
There should be a speed running category for killing toasty. I call it kill toasty%
Yea I agree with u about the dogs. They scared the absolute hell outta me when I was a kid; several years later I play this game totally forgetting about them and I got squashed by them a couple of times b4 catching on how to beat them
So Toasty's a sheep in Grim Reaper's clothing.
Toasty was the start to an epic journey...
I still have nightmares shaped around this level... and Ive played the entire Silent Hill series. This shit true scary as a kid.
Surprising that these regular dogs can resist an attack but not the giant beasts from Alpine Ridge
@vampirechibiofreno
It's not a kids game, it's a family friendly game. There's a huge difference.
The only sheep in the game you’re required to kill
Those dogs used to be scary and easy to kill
The new ones are good boyes that yawn :,( I hated attacking them.
“Most DeViOuS henchman”
That dude with the cane use to have my dying 😂
Lo., I agree with everyone else down below. This word scared me when I was little and I was just thinking that when I first started watching but it was still one of my top favorite words.
I still have the original trilogy!
Those dogs used to scare the bajesus out of me.
Just fought this guy. The boss itself wasn't hard. The big thing was the dogs that sleep leading up to the boss. I took a few hits from them.
"Gnasty Gnorc put one of his most devious henchmen..." Devious? One of the most devious things in the game is a sheep on stilts? LOL.
Ah, I love Spyro. Even though this level and every level afterwards made me nervous XD
Allways tried to make sure the enemies ended up on the other side of the wall
this and crash were the best ever ahhh you had a great childhood if you played these!!
this level scared me when i was little. Mainly because of the dogs
The music was also a factor.
Wow just realized this video is exactly 10 years old
i was sweating and shivering whenever I entered toasty.
I just faced this boss on the Reignited Trilogy and those dogs are seriously annoying.
Toasty = Spyro Hell
The pumpkin be dancing to the beat though
I think this was the best music in the game. Toasty's World. :-)
Best game soundtrack ever .
Those "dogs" always scared me when you burn them
And what an henchman that was...
So many memories 😭
I think the song and the level scared me as a kid
Background music is the same as Gnorc Gnexus.
I figured out that if you evade those dogs its alot easier... except for when you hold down the button too long.
Toasty used to scare the shit out of me.

How many of you came here from the remastered Toasty demo?
Nevin PS1 and Nevin Reignited Trilogy
0:41, 0:56, 1:10, 1:26 "Pokemon!"
Spyro has nothing to do with Pokémon shut up!!!
@@timothyroehm4307 That's not very nice.
I remember the first time i played this level that the boss would be some monster then when i saw toasty was a sheep i was confused thought i missed something and replayed the level and realised the joke
One of the funniest subversions ever
Those jumping dogs was the height of my childhood
music gets epic around 1:38
lol the old guys with sticks sound like there saying "Come On!"
Those wizard dudes crack me up!!
I agree, the dogs scared me so much I gave the game back to my friend and never played it again; just downloaded it on my PSP and looking back, I can't believe how much smaller the dogs actually are - childhood fear conquerd!
i wonder why some of the spyro 1 levels use to scare me than spyro 2 3 levels
Man couldnt have said it better myself!!
A sheep on stilts is gnastys best henchmen... lol
this level really scared me before...
Great idea rolling from the dogs. I never thought of that. I just tried running back when they tried to jump on spyro.
Its comin back. Even toastier then mortal combats toasty!
This is one of my fav levels, musicwise!
Awsome gameplay. I love this game.
This level used to scare the absolute shit out of me

Wolves in sheep's skin. Clever.
...........that's it? My GODS....hopefully the rest of the "boss fights" don't suck as bad....
Ahaha 1:49, butt whooped into the next level
I love Spyro so much. I love how you utilized the roll move. I never really found it useful
they should do a remastered triology of spyro 1,2,3 games
Alex Bowen well they do sell them on the playstation store. Albeit not a remastered version, but yoj can still play them
Good news!! :D
Alex Bowen Good news, everyone!
I played this for the first time in the reignited trilogy and saw toasty, immediatly wanted to see how it was in the original because my first thought was "this would have scared me as a kid"
The enemies in the peace keepers world are funny because they moon you oh it's funny 😂😂😂
The reignited trilogy is like an entirely new game looking back at this.
@xman04228 Like what they're doing with Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary. :D
dudes with cane: "WAKIABAA"
this level was harder when i´ve 6 years o.o!
It's been said before, but what hasn't?
This level had one of my favorite Spryo tunes of all time.
how can you make Spyro dodge roll?
I remeber not burning the dogs because I had dogs of my own lol.
I didnt want people burning my dogs
wow, no wonder the music was cool, it was made by Stewart Copeland (Drummer for The Police)
man I REMEMBER THIS GAME BACK IN MY CHLIDHOOD PLAYIN SPYRO 1 2 & 3 WHAT IF BE HELLA TIGHT IF SONY REMAKE SPYRO 1 2& 3 BUT KEEP SPYRO'S VOICE ,MUSIC, & CHALLENGS BUT UPDATE THE GRAPHICS=)
Shouldn't Toasty become a Butterfly?
2:57 *_SURPRISE MOTHA F**KA!_*
@JohnnyDFox But level wise, this game is a lot harder then its predecessors.
Y would someone dislike this video. Clearly they were deprived as a child.
Any reason why you didn't use that "Return Home" gauze?
this still scares me haha
I'm here after seeing gameplay for the Reignited Trilogy
