Awesome! Thanks for the tutorial. I'm a heavy user of strater and surfer and the GE image import and geo-referencing in surfer is particularly important for me.
Hello everyone! Its seems very helpful but unfortunately, after step "Fix Errors" my image is disappearing, although I have all the boxes on the left side of the screen turned on. Any ideas why this happens? Thanks in advance!
Hello, Thank you for your comment! If the image is disappearing after adding coordinates it is most likely because the coordinates being added are mismatched or in an incorrect scale, causing the image to shrink once georeferenced. To best determine why this is happening we would recommend sending an email to support@goldensoftware.com with a description of the problem and screenshots of your coordinate input so one of our agents can assist you. Hello, I have solved the georeferencing problem of the disappearing image by changing both source and target coordinate systems to WGS84. However, the final image is warped a little bit without matching the axis vertically and horizontally. Are there any solutions? Thanks.
Hello, I am glad to hear you were able to figure out how to georeference the image as expected. The slight tilt that is shown in Surfer is due to the true North/South position of the image when viewed using the defined coordinate system for the map. You can try cropping areas that show the slight tilt by adjusting the map limits. Click the Map in the Contents window to select it. Click the Limits tab in the Properties window. Adjust the xMin, xMax, yMin, and yMax as desired. Alternatively, Click Map Tools | Map Tools | Set Limits. Draw a polygon around the desired map area and press ENTER. Sincerely, Golden Software Support
FYI, you were not placing the marker in the correct locations in Google Earth when getting your lats/longs. You were lining up your reference point with the tip of the pin on the marker symbol you were using, while the center of the yellow box is the actual point from which Google Earth is getting the lat/long (note the hash marks on the yellow box...center it with those).
Thank you for this session. I was encountering an issue - when inputting grid data, I am getting an error "the new layer exceeds the current map limits" asking permission to update the axis. If I say yes to that, both the Base map and the Contours become invisible and if I say no, the contours are not placed. Any solutions?
Hi Siddharth, The behavior you're experiencing is likely due to different source coordinate systems for your base map and contour layer. The articles below provide information about how to use data with different coordinate systems in Surfer. - support.goldensoftware.com/hc/en-us/articles/226627507-Use-map-layers-with-different-coordinate-systems-in-the-same-Surfer-map - support.goldensoftware.com/hc/en-us/articles/226660268-Difference-between-setting-the-coordinate-system-for-a-layer-and-changing-it-for-a-Map-in-Surfer - support.goldensoftware.com/hc/en-us/articles/226504567-Tips-for-overlaying-maps-in-Surfer If you continue to have trouble overlaying your maps, please feel free to contact us at support@goldensoftware.com. Hello Apong, Thank you for reaching out to Golden Software! Often when the base map is not longer displayed after applying a georeference it is because the coordinates entered have a high error value and the applied coordinates warp the image. If you can send a screenshot of your georeference window and your SRF file to support@goldensoftware.com a member of our technical support team can better determine why the image is disappearing. Thanks, Golden Software Support
It is impossible to understand those who say "oh, that's great or very good." The program is not good anyway. The person who explains this in the program explains it well. For it to work for me, I need to be able to do this in a maximum of 5 minutes. It's much better to draw by hand.
