Water and Soil cisis also exist in Western Uttar pradesh because of crops like Sugarcane and Rice. But there is no attention to the issue because of lack of political Strength & Will while West Up is bigger than Haryana in Area. West UP have the largest belt of Sugarcane in India stretched from Sharanpur, Muzzafarnagar, Meerut, Bhagpat, Ghaziabad, Bijnor, Moradabad, Amroha and Bulandshahr. I requested to D2Earth to give the light to the issues of West UP

The problem is the lack of alternatives with the farmers. They'll skip rice in a beat if they're provided with a better market for an alternative. Just need to set the industries for other products first.

They do have alternatives such as millet, sorghum, vegetables etc but the alternatives don't yield enough money.
The problem with farmers is that they don't earn enough despite all the efforts.

That's because the government invested in big farmers to grow rice in semi-arid areas like Punjab and Haryana without investing in the human resources of the uneducated but rich Northwest regions, which would've made farmers more conscious about the environment, society and sustainability but more importantly encouraged them to strive for a more equal and fair society
The contrast between rich Jatt farmers owning big properties and Audis exploiting poor labourers from UP, Bihar and poor farmers committing suicide along with their whole families because of racking up enormous debt is only the result of such shortsighted government interventions
Sadly the governments in Punjab and Haryana at this are controlled by the powerful Jatt community who care the least about an egalitarian society and would rather talk about Ram Rajya or Khalistan to distract the public from the appalling wealth inequality in Punjab/Haryana with many of them migrating to Canada using the same wealth the government invested in them

Ask Subash palekar ji how we can reverse the salt contents. This might be due to overuse of fertilizers. We can do crop rotation like legumes and lentils and also now millets are gaining traction. They can grow in any type of climate.

This was a mistake Haryana and Punjab made, paddy cultivation was never for their fields but they used excess urea for the production and the result was fatal. Their fields were best suited for wheat but just for the sake of profit they destroyed their future. I am from eastern UP and I know exactly what it takes for paddy cultivation. We have black soil best suited for paddy cultivation but we grow chana(gram) also so that it can fix nitrogen from the air to the fields. Paddy cultivation need huge amount of water that's why we installed tube wells for the water supply.

The main reason for growing of paddy is the rate of other crops like cotton and millet is very low comparison to rate of paddy .paddy destroyed the fertility of soil but farmer have no other option,if government increase the price of cotton than paddy sowing in haryana is decrease and save water and soil.

    • @abhijeetgupta_
      @abhijeetgupta_ 11 місяців тому +3

Too much water is being pumped out of the ground.
This water evaporates and minerals and salt in the water stay in the soil making soil infertile.
Groundwater level is decreasing and may lead to droughts.

There’s a Swiss or Northman research about how to use such salt issues that has something about growing certain potato crops that only only grow fine but remove the salt due to their biological metabolism that breakdown salt molecule for growth. That made sense because potatoes also remove excess salt from cooking pot when added for the purpose. Knowledge shouldn’t be held back from anyone in need.

The overdemand of paddy in the market instead of other whole grains (e.g., barley, corn, fruits, and vegetables) is the problem. People on the demand side must change their attitude as the salty and undesirable farmland reflects their mindset. In addition, fruits, vegetables, barley, and corn are much healthier than paddy. Please look at their benefits.
The government should encourage other whole grains.

This problem is occured due to excess use of fertiliser that form salt with react with mineral of original soil.
If some one says that due to excess cultivation of rice or lack of rain but it may be not.
From the last thousands of year rice was cultivated but why this problem happened now only.
This is due to excess of fertiliser that lead to hardness of soil when it dry.
If I am wrong correct me.

these places doesn't look like places with excess of water that would justify a paddy planting opportunity to start off with. Places like kerala where there used to be enough water reserve , wetlands and marshes and rainfalls to justify paddy crops no longer have enough water resources to sustain paddy at scale. I can only imagine the case of northern states which doesn't receive enough precipitation to sustainably support a regular paddy crop.

Why have the govt. promoted paddy cultivation inwestern India? That area doesn't receive that much of rainfall like eastern Indian states. It will deplete ground water levels naturally. This shows how Agriculturul sector gets neglected, no proper planning.
