An absolute classic that should've been in the top 5 UK charts, sadly only made 36. Shameful in the grand scheme of things as this was easily one of the best songs they did. Betsi Miller was an absolute stunner with a truly gorgeous voice to match. Howard Jones co-wrote it and the production was class. Still one of my favourites from 1990 and happier times...
I forgot that Howard did this track - it'd epic! Betsi's voice is unbelievable. Any idea what happened to her? Howard's arrangement is ridiculous. Very him!
Agreed. I remember recording the track off the radio when it was played during the Top 40 as a climber of 3 places to No.36 (Bruno actually initially announcing it as a new entry - I still have the cassette!), and being somewhat surprised that it was Propaganda as it was very different to their more sinister synth productions like Duel and p-Machinery from the mid-80's. Having read the history of the band some years later, I can see why. I bought the album 1,2,3,4 on the basis of this and the follow up single Only One Word which I think Dave Gilmour contributed to. Anyway, Heaven Give Me Words sounded so fresh and summery on the radio in May-ish time of 1990 and really ought to have scored them their first UK top 20 hit at the very least.
Take these words they come out wrong They won't express this old emotional thing If you could see inside my mind You'd know the love and feel this passionate thing You stepped into my locked out world I felt your touch on my shoulder You turned my mind right over Like a child before it learns to speak I turn to stone, I turn to stone Heaven give me words to tell you How I am feeling What I am needing Heaven let this message reach you This desperation Will stop my heart from beating I won't be giving in I'll die if I don't tell you just how I feel I'll make you truly understand What kind of man could live with feelings Of steel I used to be so self contained When I thought about love A conversation heart to heart I must confess this old emotional thing Before you think that I'm a fool There's a flame that burns here Here's a feeling that's so rare It's my nightmare when I go to speak I turn to stone, I turn to stone Heaven give me words to tell you How I am feeling What I am needing Heaven let this message reach you This desperation Will stop my heart from beating Heaven give me words Heaven give pride Heaven let this message reach you You've seen a heart worn on my sleeve I must express this old emotional thing Please be a witness to my dreams Or I'll wake up and say now Can this be real? Before you think that I'm a fool There's a flame that burns here Here's a feeling that's so rare It's my nightmare when I go to speak I turn to stone, I turn to stone Heaven give me words to tell you How I am feeling What I am needing Heaven let this message reach you This desperation Will stop my heart from beating Heaven give me words to tell you How I am feeling What I am needing Heaven let this message reach you This desperation Will stop my heart from beating Heaven give me words Heaven give pride Heaven let this message reach you
Classy video for classy song. I thought parts were archive footage until I realized singer Betsi Miller is actually on the same set with the backdrop reading "Karno Studios, Himmel Studios, Cabiria Studios". The big generator switchgear is a rare prop. Seems to be a complete, genuine polished slate switchboard from the 1910s, probably filmed in a power station, I wonder where... At the top are circuit breakers. Middle: signal lamps (red & green), voltmeters & ammeters, wheels probably for excitation current regulation. Bottom: Brown Boveri voltage regulators, knife switches and possibly paper graph writers.
Ed eccomi qui ad ascoltarla dopo 34 anni ed apprezzarla. Chi come me? And here I am listening to it and appreciating it after 34 year. Who appreciates it as much as I do? Phil da Roma.

so wait, which original members were involved on this one. I don't see Ralf Dorper, Claudia or Suzanne... so who was left and how can they use the name if the band was fully gutted ?
1. The voice in many Propaganda songs is of Susanne Freytag, not of Claudia Brücken. 2. Betsi Miller's voice was perfect for this music. Betsi Miller is an important and good part of the Propaganda history.
My favourite Propaganda song ist "Dream Within A Dream" - without Claudia Brücken. Claudia Brücken sang this song together with Susanne Freytag only in concerts, but not on the album.
@FN LN It's an okay and civil song, but also very main stream, not very exciting IMHO. Incomparable with the more dynamic and more innovative songs from A Secret Wish. It reminds me a bit of Neneh Cherry songs.

Now that you say it, I hear the typical Howard-Jones-Sound !!

That's one of my favourite songs ever.
Brilliant, what an amazing album too
still....so beautiful
Placuta melodie… divina !
Take these words they come out wrong
They won't express this old emotional thing
If you could see inside my mind
You'd know the love and feel this passionate thing
You stepped into my locked out world
I felt your touch on my shoulder
You turned my mind right over
Like a child before it learns to speak
I turn to stone, I turn to stone
Heaven give me words to tell you
How I am feeling
What I am needing
Heaven let this message reach you
This desperation
Will stop my heart from beating
I won't be giving in
I'll die if I don't tell you just how I feel
I'll make you truly understand
What kind of man could live with feelings
Of steel
I used to be so self contained
When I thought about love
A conversation heart to heart
I must confess this old emotional thing
Before you think that I'm a fool
There's a flame that burns here
Here's a feeling that's so rare
It's my nightmare when I go to speak
I turn to stone, I turn to stone
Heaven give me words to tell you
How I am feeling
What I am needing
Heaven let this message reach you
This desperation
Will stop my heart from beating
Heaven give me words
Heaven give pride
Heaven let this message reach you
You've seen a heart worn on my sleeve
I must express this old emotional thing
Please be a witness to my dreams
Or I'll wake up and say now
Can this be real?
Before you think that I'm a fool
There's a flame that burns here
Here's a feeling that's so rare
It's my nightmare when I go to speak
I turn to stone, I turn to stone
Heaven give me words to tell you
How I am feeling
What I am needing
Heaven let this message reach you
This desperation
Will stop my heart from beating
Heaven give me words to tell you
How I am feeling
What I am needing
Heaven let this message reach you
This desperation
Will stop my heart from beating
Heaven give me words
Heaven give pride
Heaven let this message reach you
A timeless gem from the 90's. Beautiful vocals. Brings back great college memories!
Good song,good memories,starting the 90s!
God, is she beautiful.
I like "1234" a lot. Very good produced music!
Bought this album back in time and i still love it. A good song is always a good song! Everything Michael Mertens touched turned into great music.
Derek Forbes from Simple Minds on contrabass - great...woow...
Love this song so much. Such nostalgia when I hear this.
Happy Friday 🎉😄!

A przy okazji na tym nagraniu to niepowtarzalne brzmienie nie ma niższych częstotliwości. Z czego zgrane tak bez basu

This song brings back fond memories of the early 90s. In particular, a girl named Monica who had a huge impact on me at the time.

The whole world is sadly rotten right now... This Is too beautiful to be heard nowadays...
1st single from their 2nd studio album "1234", released in 1990, feat. vocalist Betsi Miller, co-written by Howard Jones
Didn't know that but I can clearly hear Howard's signature sound here.
Two former member of Simple Minds can be seen here:
Derek Forbes and
Brian McGee

For many years she ran a day spa in Bath, UK

#StillListeningToItMay2024 , our german Group PROPAGANDA !! 🙂
Jones/Stanley/Mertens, 1990
The Jones is Howard Jones, who also sings two words of backing vocals ".....a conversation..."
The Stanley is Ian Stanley, of Tears for Fears fame
Super przebój z jakiej to płyty
Wht😂👋😜
so wait, which original members were involved on this one. I don't see Ralf Dorper, Claudia or Suzanne... so who was left and how can they use the name if the band was fully gutted ?
Michael Mertens. who was the chief composer
Betsi miller = stacy
Beautiful - and stifled by the 'Propaganda' name - as everyone expected the early 80s style. Shame
If Paramore had a mother it would be Propaganda
Great song just a shame the video is so bad.
How the hell is this Propaganda?? It's not even the same people and it sounds nothing like the old band.
What a difference a good singer makes! There is no Propaganda without Claudia Brücken.
good joke!

@hardmanners I agree with you. This sounds more like another Wilson Phillips.
