Hello how are you? I have a question! What brand of puppy food do you recommend for a great pyrenees pup?
Hi Erasmo! We have used Diamond Naturals puppy for our pups. When we had the full litter and they were weening, we couldn’t afford DN for all 7 puppies, so they started on Purina puppy. Once they got to a full year, they started to get picky with DN dog food, so the full grown dogs are on Pedigree.
@@OsoFarm oh ok! The reason I asked because I'm buying a great pyrenees puppy and ima go pick him up this week so I wanna feed him the best food so he can get strong and healthy while growing up. But thank you for your help I really appreciate 🙏

Just got my 12 week old pyr he isn’t very active, lays down mostly, maybe homesick?
Is it hot where you are? They do sleep a lot in the heat
Congratulations on your new family member! One of the things to remember is that the GP has a different "motor" than other dogs. In our experience, they are much more laid back and chill than say, a labrador. And, at 12 weeks - they are growing a tremendous amount which requires a ton of energy - so expect them to sleep, a lot. It's possible that they have some "homesickness" - but that should subside quickly with attention and love that you provide.
It's also summertime, and with our current litter that is about 12 weeks too, there is minimal activity when the sun is out. It's just too hot to do anything where we live. If your Pyr is outside, make sure they have shade and plenty of water to drink. Possibly a pool or to cool off in.
Is your GP a pet or a livestock guardian?
@@OsoFarm Yes it is hot outside, my pyr stays in doors, only goes outside when taken for a walk or to use the bathroom.
I hope that dry crunchy dog food was not for the pups. At seven weeks they need soft food mixed with milk. The dry is not absorbed into their bodies until older, and it could put hair line fractures in their teeth.
We water it down. We are following our vets recommendations. Thanks for watching
How is your son who had surgery?
Hi Jackie. It was a very hard week, but as of yesterday he is finally on the mend. He refused food for days and we were completely focused on keeping him hydrated. He started playing again yesterday and ate almost a whole tub of vanilla yogurt!! Praise the Lord!!
It is a hard recovery for sure, but we are hopeful it will help with his sleep.

We are starting a homestead and only have a couple acres, so I am also concerned about constant barking at night. (I heard they bark a lot)

We are on only a few acres too. We have three Pyrenees and it works out fine. They do bark. A lot. 😊
But that’s the reason you have them on a homestead…to bark and protect! Neighbors could be an issue so you might want to think through how close you are to others. We made our pasture and dog run on the other side of our property to help this concern.
Our dogs have been amazing with our Evan, who is 6. They are great with all ages. They are huge dogs so I understand your concern with your daughter. As puppies they were more likely to knock my Evan over because they were just so excited to see him. As they age they usually just sit and wait until he greets them.
