the interviewer 2:18 that compared lydia tár with carol deserves a slap in the face. because what kind of homophobic, misogynistic, bs is that? in both carol and the price of salt, the relationship between carol and therese is so clearly genuine, deep, consensual, and not at all predatory. it’s so ignorant to think that beautiful relationship in any way mirrors tár’s predatory behavior.

Many people have been calling Tár an abuser and a predator. I reserve those words for rapists and wife-beaters. If anything she is an opportunist. In the politics of any business there are opportunists. Simple as that.
Also, the age difference is somehow criticized where women are involved, but not men. Say, Harrison Ford and his wife or Michael Douglas and C.Zeta-Jones. Did those men 'prey' on those younger women?? I think not.

@@baronesswithabrush1991 Though it’s not explicitly laid out, I do think Lydia Tár is a predator. Todd Field purposefully doesn’t show her relationships with Krista and Francesca in much depth, but he still implies that there was much more going on than the audience is aware of, in terms of predatory behavior. ‘Abuser’ can have many different contexts, so the extent to which Tár should be considered an abuser is definitely up for interpretation, but she is without a doubt an abuser of power, at the least. That being said, I completely agree about the age difference comment. That is something I think of every time Carol is criticized for the age difference, because let’s be honest, if it was a heteronormative romance being depicted, I really don’t think people would care so much.

@@mellooney4351 I don't disagree that there was 'more going on' w/Tar and Krista and Francesca, but I wouldn't immediately jump to predatory behaviour. Clearly her and Krista had an intense relationship, probably with Krista feeling more than Lydia - thus the 'present' of the Vita Sackville-West novel Challenge' which involves a threatened suicide if one lover leaves the other. What we don't even know is if Lydia's wife is aware of the transgressions in the marriage. I think maybe so. And we don't know how Sharon and Lydia's relationship started either, who approached who first and who was in the 'power' position at that time?

@@melodyal3357 Thanks. Too many people watch only a surface level only, jump to conclusions based on their pre-existing bias.
