I was told as a kid in a white pentacostal church that the stories in the Bible were literal, true history, which seemed like bullshit. It wasn't until my forties that Joseph Campbell informed me that those stories were mythology, which is a very different form of literature than fiction.
The Bible became meaningful at that point for me and I'm very glad to see you're evangelizing of the scriptures for what that actually are.
    Bravo.

I call her the mystic of endor. The problem with the modern usage of the esoteric is that it runs the gambit of misdefinitions, pejoratives, and popular romanticization-> snake oil salesmanship.
People who naturally have visions tend to see the dead. They are not typically romanticized as gods, and many believe they have spirit guides. The old tale were Paul is exclaming that "First peter, then the 12, then the 500 and finally..." This is an equivocation of his mystical experience to the visions held by his disciples, most of them were probably mystics, though unlikely many were natural mystics. We do not call these necromancers or witches. And as a mystic it seems likely that all the twelve or five-hundred saw Jesus in the same way Paul did, but if 1/2 of them saw him, its kind of 🥱 so what?
So lets give a little background. The place we call bethel is on the border between Ephraime and Judah, its right there next to benjamin. Its actual name was Luz, meaning almond tree, its a metaphor for 🕎asherah🕎. And so we need to understand the goddess is often treated as the tripartite divine feminine, the seductress, fertility, and wisdom. And by wisdom we generally mean esoteric knowledge. Women would have come to this place to devote themselves to and express in private things which are better not expressed in public, not neccesarily dealing with necromancy and not neccesary pertaining to magick. Natural mystics dont need magick, thats kind of the point.
The philistines are coming from the southwest, Saul has retreated back to galilee to seek this mystic. As he returns to battle his army is lost. It also appears that Bethlehem is lost, and David needs to move his god elsewhere, he eventually chooses Jerusalem. And so we have to ask this question what is the value of the mystic of endor. The Ark of El is lost, Yahu is kicked out his seat in Judea (Ergo, ritual sites are disrupted). And the king is back on his heels, back peddling to Endor, and Samu'el, this last representative of the judge/prophets is dead. The story reflects complete chaos. Its probably the case that the philistines went about destroying and stealing ritual items to demoralize the Israelites into submission. And so without their magick their gods arent speaking to them, but the asherah are spread diffusely on the land, ki/ge, is about the divinity of place (origin, growth, rebirth). They dont really need high gods for their magick. So these women of asherah would not need these iconography, and so they represent the last hope of a king. It also shows the fragility of belief during that period.
And so now we can rewrap the story, this is an epic battle between the stragglers of the old gods, and children of foriegn gods. The newcomers are winning, and they need a ruthless hero that will do what it takes to destroy them, but first Saul has to be gotten out of the way. The battle is lost, the new king arises defeats the philistines and takes half the kingdom himself.
Pretty, but David lost a significant amount of Yahudah in the process, and priest considered him taboo with his observances of the gods.
