I live in Newnan, GA. The only place to buy new guitars and equipment is a couple of Guitar Centers and Jackson music which is over an hour. We do, however, have Browns Guitar Mill on the square in Newnan. This guy John Brown, is a fantastic luthier. He started his business from scratch working on guitars and doing some consignment sales. His reputation as a luthier started talking off. Come to find out, he’s been building and repairing guitars for years and he may have teched for a few big name bands. He is friends with the guys from BlackBerry Smoke and Paul brings his guitars in when he wants something different done. He now employs another luthier that just focuses on acoustic repair. I’m seen them take apart a vintage Martin that got rained on and almost filled with water. He builds quality guitars and built me an Army tribute guitar that is amazing. His store has taken off and now he has a great selection of used guitars for every price range. We desperately need shops like his in these small, midsize towns. Great video!
Fellow Newnan person here and Brown's Guitar Mill and now Riff Wizard Guitars inside his shop are great. The Atlanta main Guitar Center is much improved since it moved. The new manager there seems to get it. Support local when possible!
Support your local luthier, I love it! I build and do repairs for friends. I would much rather support a local shop than a big corporation any day. For me it is Larry’s Music and Sound in Hickory, NC
Baxter and Jonathan, Casino is a top tier shop. Folks in North Carolina are really lucky to have it nearby. We always hope people will develop a relationship with their local shop to learn, try things, trades, setups etc. It's a real community! We had a great discussion with Tom Crandall from TR Crandall (in NYC) on our show last month all about this. We always love local! Keep up the great work! And we hope to visit your shop in the future!
A fascinating peek into your world! You guys kick ass. The notion that there's some camaraderie rather than just cutthroat competition between shops is a refreshing bright point in the saga of humanity.
The owner of my local guitar shop does the Lessons, repair and instrument sales. He also wanted the shop to be a gathering place for local musicians. By hosting once a months acoustic guitar jams.
You guys are like me I won't sell a guitar if I think its not right for the customer, We are not used car salesman. We are here for the customer most times at a fault. Great video guys.
Awesome Video!! Here in Chicago, Chicago Music Exchange is great shop, but their prices on used guitars aren't the best. You could come in with a 000-15M Martin you just bought for $1700 and they will offer you $900, but not come off their used price of $1495. The most AMAZING Acoustic guitar shop that also carries a bunch of Ukulele and Banjos, is Down Home Guitars in Frankfort, IL. Just the right size, with tons of Martin's Taylor's, and all the boutique guitars you can think of! They had the most beautiful guitar I ever held - the $25,000 Santa Cruz - made from the famous "Tree" of figured mahogany! Great staff! Offer guitar lessons upstairs with amazing instructors! Small enough for personal attention and customer service is a 10 Stars!
In 05 when r kids started with guitar the old style guitar centers with crowds of people and players testing gear at high volume, it was so alive amazing and fun,
Baxter, when you end up coming out here to see Wildwood, please hit up Dave (not me) at Monkton Guitars in Broomfield, right next door. He’s a fan of your channel and has a pretty awesome shop with some cool vintage stuff coming through the doors! And of course Flipside in Denver is a must visit as well.
I can’t wait to come see you guys. Told my sister in law we need to visit your store when I come out to visit and she goes “their middle kid is in (their kids) class” so crazy small world. Excited to meet you all one day!
Where I live in England it’s a small city called Peterborough they don’t have a decent music shop. The only good one we used to have closed down but even that was small but that guy got some good guitars in there I regret no buying a Japanese pink paisley tele that he had in there. Early 2000s It was priced at £499 I should have brought the damn thing. Luckily I’m only an hour away from London on the train. Love the way you guys say guitars or guitar 👍
a skilled luthier who can install pick ups and adjust playability should not be dismissed... Dave's Guitars in LaCrosse WI is a key operator... you really should go visit as his personal collection upstairs of vintage guitars is worth checking out... BTW, he keeps a group of Luthiers on hand who will install pickups etc... Nevertheless, they are so busy moving product that it is difficult to get personal attention like I get at Casino!
Bought my Epi Johnny A from GC Online, last one available. Shipped from Miami to Clearwater, FL in the original factory sealed box. Picking it up the manager came out to open it with me and was a little apprehensive about it's condition. Perfect with the most beautiful grain in the ebony fingerboard, loose input jack, usable setup. Had to have it and still have it. The whole process was great and customer service was outstanding. That said I do go to several M&P shops in Pinellas & Hillsborough counties, always interesting.
I miss our mom and pop stores .. our local one was family owned for 70 yrs .. they did luthier work .. and your guitar played amazing .. and there was a family aspect and gathering place for musicians .. I think a lot of that’s missing
Sad to say, there's not a single music shop left in my town. Back in the day there were several, and one was a specialist guitar/bass shop that was the regular hangout for all the local players. The owner was happy for us to sit all day and drink coffee and swap licks, because he knew we'd always shop with him whenever we bought new or used gear. I must have spent thousands of quid there over the years. Now there's nowhere to even buy a set of strings.
I like going on pawn shop safaris occasionally. The Internet did kill getting a deal, though. One has to look hard to find that hidden gem that's still a deal, but I have found a few over the years. I live in the metro Detroit area, and we have a lot of good independent music shops still., but they've all but disappeared in the smaller communities here in MI. My fav local shop closed when the owner retired. I miss that shop.
Ive still not done a pawn shop. Live about 45 minutes from Chuck Levins. Every time I go in, the staff has been great, amazingly friendly, such an awesome shop. I still end up at Guitar Center a lot... mostly due to lessons. Being in the DC area, and from California, I can tell you all the taco spots, very few any where close to the guitar shops. But if I missed one....
I used to frequent pawn shops in the 90s and into the 2000s and there was a lot of cool stuff back in the day but it seems like it’s mostly super low budget junk and the very occasional nice item. I don’t frequent them as much anymore because I almost never see anything cool in the ones around me Seems like the cool stuff disappeared along with smoking inside the pawnshop; everything I bought there in the 90s smelled horrible!
Love that blues brothers clip. Elwood goes in to Rays music exchange & he gravitates straight over to the toaster! (4 fried chickens a coke & dry white toast!) 😂
What I found interesting with the insight here is the part "passion" plays. The very big, warehouse operations will always lack this element (nothing new). I'm sure that many beginners who buy from the warehouse will miss out on some of the passion that many of the other "lower" tier operations can offer.
Your guitar store is pretty High Level Sir Baxter. Ive been to many.. Norms Guitars, Emerald Guitars, big cities... Las Vegas, Las Angeles, the Bay Area, Seattle. Dusty Strings in Seattle... Those dudes have acoustics hanging on the wall for $60K (in some examples). All that man.. Id say you guys are top tier shop for sure. Ill make a ridiculous statement? IMHO Casino guitars is probably in the top 10 for sure. Best shops in the United States.
I don't really buy much from Guitar center. They don't setup the guitars even the pricey ones. When I bought an Ultra Luxe from you guys.. Tell ya what the guitar arrived with a GREAT setup. I don't know if you guys did it or it came like that from factory but I was impressed. But an area that Guitar Center shines.. Why I still go there.. Is Guitar Center always has the latest NEW gear. I usually go there check it out.. then buy it from a store like you guys.
Most of the Shops are 1-3 outlets, don't forget this little island is tiny.......I still believe buying a guitar is good for your health!!! And also it's cheaper than Drugs!!!🎸🎸🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🤸♂🤸
In 08 we saw oasis in broomfield, small venue seated 5k, shock of the lightning tour, total freak out of light n sound, and Liam was so Liam, And then the freakn Hiwatts,
I live in Fort Wayne so we have Sweetwater which is awesome BUT back in the 80s and 90s we had a bunch of great small guitar shops. Guitar center put those out of business. Then Sweetwater closed our Guitar Center. I miss the smaller shops.
I’ve gotten four Gibson’s and a Fender from the pawn shop. All were under a grand. Not to mention a 1959 Sano amp for $299. We’ve only got like four music store in my state.
My son got through to buy oasis tickets from ticketmaster...put 2 for Wembley (london) in the basket and their "dynamic pricing" changed the cost from 305 GBP to 713 GBP...approx 936 USD. So he cancelled the purchase...wise boy!
Phil McKnight said that when he asked a bunch of Sweetwater Gear Advisers how much they were making after bonuses etc? As much as HE was making OWNING 2nd biggest guitar store in Arizona.
I'm not sure how they compare, on volume, but I would say Thomann are the equivalent to Sweetwater over here in Europe. Because Thomann are also quite big in the UK AFAIK. Their own brand Harley Benton is really starting to eat into the market here at the lower end, undercutting Squier by being half to two thirds the price level and with a massively expanding range. I would imagine Anderton's are bigger than GAK. And Peach is a smaller cosier outfit, and they're the best - but I doubt they are in the same sales league as GAK, who I think focus more on value, and certainly not Andertons who have scale. Plenty of others went bust over the years, like Sound Control in Manchester. And, I'm getting the impression there's some sort of creep going on where maybe some country local companies are being bought up by larger companies. There's suddenly suspicious similarities in the websites, though maybe Thomann or someone is selling out of the box platforms for this.
Here in the UK, it's still hard trying to find the guitar you have in your heart? Don't get me wrong, there are lots of guitars here, but if you're after a specific guitar, in a specific colour, it can be very difficult to find it, and if you're after a Firebird, don't bother! I managed to get an Epiphone Firebird, but trying to find a Gibson is nearly impossible? I'm after an American Fender Stratocaster in white, with a maple fingerboard at the moment, and I can't find one near me? If I lived in America, I could probably go to the nearest guitar shop and pickup what I want? So you're lucky living over there!
I’d like to say you are correct but if there is truly a specific guitar, color, pickup style etc… and it’s not a Strat, Tele or clone… good luck. We are lucky with a pretty nice store in Tampa, Replay Guitars, but still, if you have a specific target in mind, supply has not met demand in Florida.
I grew up when the local guitar shop was a legit hangout spot, and you'd go there when you didn't need anything, just to see what's going on, it was something to do, kinda like how we used to go to the mall for no reason other than to socialize and crush Orange Julius while trying to pick up girls outside of FYE. I hope we see a return to that kind of experience in more places, and I think businesses will realize there's actual financial benefit because that environment creates customer loyalty and they'll purchase everything from that shop in order to support them, and any shop that can host events has another leg up.
Most of our local shops have closed down or they're just a shell of what they were. Pawn shops aren't like they used to be either. The closest GC is 90 miles away.
Support your local! Keeps people in jobs and your spend stays in the local economy. I tend to avoid pawn shops. Mostly crud in my experience. They also prey on human weakness(gambling, drugs etc) but that’s just me.
I bought my first guitar at a pawn shop on my honeymoon (a little over 40 years ago). I still have it. Nothing fancy. Just a regular old Yamaha FG-335 II. Looked brand new, got a great deal. Still have it and I'll never sell it. Pawn shops I've been into lately price their guitars like they're brand new. Pass.
And when I buy at a shop with employees you get the sales person showing you and telling you why they love the guitar, same with individuals on reverb, at sweet there is way less of that mojo, more like buying an iPhone,

Very cool show today as usual.
I simply love the rolled up jean cuff and saggy black sock look.
I have a great local music shop nearby, I consider myself very lucky after looking around and seeing some towns didn't have one with the big brands
I've never been to Casino Guitars (5+ hour drive) but based on photos you have a great store!
Nice video boys. Come thru Long Island whenever ya can
You guys should film the unpacking of the rare and custom guitars, I think it would be entertaining.

You Should do more Tours of Manufacturers in US like Jasper Guitars, Warrior Guitars or even Alembic, not to mention Carr & Benson Amps
Excellent. Good luck with those tix.

The world needs more blue guitars, send the message up the pyramid.
sidekicks. Hell yes.
Local/family owned music shops are gone from my area now and I hate that.
So many pawn shops ask top dollar for bottom of the line guitars.
Pawn shops near me are awful. It's where you go to buy a Squier Affinity for $500 or a fake MIJ Fender or a Chibson at a new Gibson price.
Music Villa sits on top of my pyramid! Cheers Casino!!
