Apple CarPlay: Making Calls & Text Messaging

The iPhone revolutionized smartphones… and Apple CarPlay has revolutionized the way vehicles and smartphones interact.
When connected with the UVO link with Navigation infotainment system, Apple CarPlay makes communication easy and less distracting so you can focus on driving.
With your iPhone connected via a USB cable to your Kia, and Apple CarPlay active and enabled, you’re ready to get started.
To initiate a call, select the Phone icon on the home screen.
Now, across the top of the screen you’ll see you have five choices: Favorites, Recent, Contacts, Keypad and Voicemail.
To call a contact, select the microphone to ask Siri to make a call for you.
[PLAY SIRI: “Whom shall I help you call?”]
Swipe the screen to scroll up and down through the list of contacts or use the “up” and “down” arrows.
Once you find who you want to call, select the contact name to initiate the call.
When finished, you can end the call through the steering wheel controls, or by pressing the End button on the screen.
To return a call, select “Recents” from the phone menu…
Scroll up and down until you find who you want to call…
Then select that name or number.
In addition, you can access your voicemail messages by pressing the Voicemail button.
You can also place a call using the Talk button on the Steering Wheel. Press and hold the Talk button and SIRI will activate.
Simply say, ““Call Lisa Smith…”
Now let’s review how to send text messages from the Apple CarPlay screen:
Select Messages, press the new message icon and Siri will help you.
[SIRI SAYS: “To whom should I send your message?”]
“Lisa Smith”
[SIRI SAYS: “What do you want to say?”]
“How about some tennis tomorrow?”
[SIRI SAYS: “Your message to Lisa Smith says: How about some tennis tomorrow?” Are you ready to send your message?]
“Yes”
[SIRI SAYS: “I’ll send your message.”]
Incoming text notifications are displayed as a red number on the Messages icon.
Press the Message icon and then the contact to listen to the text:
[SIRI SAYS: “Lisa says: Sounds like a great idea. SIRI SAYS: Do you want to reply?]
“No.”
That’s all there is to it.
You can also send text messages by activating Siri - Press and hold the Talk button on the steering wheel and Siri will take over.
