Only one duo is able to evoke sinister settings like the world of bleak woods lurking behind Norwegian wafts of mist. That duo is SATYRICON. Formed in Oslo in 1991, SATYRICON made an immediate and enduring impact when they emerged from the flourishing Norwegian black metal scene.
With their ninth opus "Deep calleth upon Deep,” the masters Satyr and Frost properly dispense the darkest art of metal. The album oozes with sorrow, as black metal hymns drag shake the soul and the skeleton like hyenas feasting on a rotten carcass. The resulting album is erratic and destructive, in addition to being raw and pure. It plows. It’s progressive. It mounts an unapologetic sonic attack.
The sheer force of personality and creativity that has driven SATYRICON forward over the last quarter of a century is writ large across Deep calleth upon Deep’s extraordinary musical contents.

Recorded in Oslo, Norway and Vancouver, Canada, during the early months of 2017 and mixed in collaboration with esteemed studio guru Mike Fraser (who previously worked with the band on Now, Diabolical in 2006) “Deep calleth upon Deep” is not just the next collection of songs from one of extreme music’s most reliable bands: this is a wholesale reinvention and the explosive commencement of a brand new era in SATYRICON history. It’s an album that stands as a monument to rampaging individuality and the power of the human spirit.
“I think this is a totally different record. This is day one of a new chapter,” Satyr avows. “Approaching this record, what I always kept in mind is that either this is the beginning of something new or it’s gonna be my last record. If this is going to be the last one then it needs to be something special. If there are more records, then I’d better make sure that this is so different from the last one that it feels like a new beginning. This is an immensely powerful record. I think it’s really, really dark and very spiritual and filled with confidence and energy.”

Velho, achei o vídeo e a música sensacionais. Não importa quantos riffs a música tenha, se ela passar o que propõe, já vale. O vídeo está muito foda pq o diretor conseguiu passar a "confusão" dos riffs e todos lados que a personagem vive, viveu ou só os imagina. É sem dúvida alguma um vídeo respeitável, com um álbum mais respeitável ainda. Satyricon ❤️
Slow song, however, it gets me! The riffs, whether more simplified or not, I can feel from w/in my gut. It's beautiful to say the least! However, the video w/o the band in it? I was discontent on that behalf!!

My favourite track off your Absolutely Awesome Deep Calleth Upon Deep, one track reminds me of The Screaming Dead Children of The Graveyard Bones, i saw them in London 1983 there was only a handful there, their encore was Rolling Stones Paint It Black, we had The BATCAVE 1983 London. My beautiful Mother died last year of Dementia and i am coming to Norway to see The Northern Lights and toast her then check out True Norwegian Black Metal ⚰️ Scene, haunts, I can't wait but i have to be patient due to the Pandemic. Frost has a drum solo/break down that is fucking epic; I hate Elitist bullshit... if it sounds good-- it's not true Black Metal, etc. Fuck, it's an old argument that lacks substance. Only a fool would believe getting better in all aspects of artistic creation would be a bad thing. Unfortunately there is an abundance of this kind of thought in the Extreme Metal Community. Diversity breeds creativity. For the most part...

I guess you just don't know much about either music and playing music. TL/DR, but let me tell you this: for a drummer of Frost's magnitude this must be boring as hell. 1349 is fast and even technical, this is where Frost truly shines. Look it up. And I'm not saying slow music is boring - but these new Satyricon albums are just sad. This is what happens, when an accomplished musician starts to think whatever he records will sell great.

How does a "Witches Sabbath" have anything to do with brotherhood? A video portraying a dark coming of age tale from the male perspective would have been more fitting. The song is great but I think the producers of this video didn't care about the song as much as they did the opportunity to see some naked middle aged women.
The video just makes no interpretive or artistic sense whatsoever.

There is actually 7 riffs in the whole song. The main melody riffs also has different variations every time it comes up as does a couple of the other riffs.. There is quite alot going on really.

There are some fun songs on Volcano but the harsh fury has gone.The band sounds really dead...with no soul...an experience near inertia to listen.Darkthrone i.g. were wiser with changes and they are still doing great records.

The song is lackluster and the video is a weird pile of poorly edited scenes with random photography changes and the overall motiv is rather lame, already seen and has nothing to do with brotherhood, so it's one of the many videos in metal which does not really fit the song at all.

Satyricon lost it. At least Vocano and Now, Diabolical were sound with Black & Roll-ish groovy guitar riffs and catchy drums. This is honestly and by far, the most BORING version of the band along with their previous album (saving Phoenix), in my opinion.
