- hey everyone! in this video I go over the weird and regrettable decision the Watcher channel made by trying to go to a monthly subscription for ^ bucks a month. needless to say this didn't go over well with their fan .
UPDATE! this video was scheduled to be posted before their apology came out, new video will be released tonight or tomorrow covering their apology! Lets pretend that this was scheduled a few hours earlier haha!

Its a pretty gross pill to swallow. Demanding more money for their content when Shane just spent nearly double my yearly salary on a wedding venue
I'm glad the general population doesn't stand for youtuber first world problems, especially when they try to make them the viewer's problems.
@@TrentCeterawas discussing with some international viewers of the channel, as we are living in a third world country. I used to spend $10 a week for grocery living alone. $6 is a lot.

@@blitzofchaosgaming6737 Oh my lord, that does sound insane. Shane's extravagant wedding really does leave a sour taste in people's mouth after them about to paywall absolutely everything.
I don't mind paying if the content is worth it. It's not.
i completely agree with this, like college humor which has a huge cast and a lot of different content
exactly, if its worth it #1 and to have it available for those who have the extra money #2 are the reasons its a valid idea to have extra paid content. but it makes no sense to not offer it on patrion aas they have been doing. they essentially gave the viewers nothing with this so called watcher streaming service.
@@TrentCetera precisely. this is why from time to time i subscribe to Netflix. because it IS worth it. i have so many things to watch and the comfort of the cross-platform, uix, and all. but six bucks for that? no. really, no one did market research or a single poll to check what the people have to say? do they not know the majority of their audience? that's absolutely insane.
i’ve been a fan of shane and ryan since the buzzfeed days - never really liked steven, something about him just put me right off and i think this is it. you can really tell in this video that shane is uncomfortable with this decision and in the “update” video steven barely says two words. i’m glad they made the decision to put their stuff up on youtube as well as this so-called streaming service. but they’ve show themselves in the foot. i’ll probably still be watching certain shows (puppet history, ghost files, and mystery files primarily) but i really think this venture they’re doing is gonna crash and burn real fast, it it will probably take them years to get back on track. it’s a shame, because i love their content, but as a broke uni student barely making ends meet, im beyond disappointed and upset
I think they forgot what its like to struggle, and so, like a baby who only has a slap to compare what the worst thing ever is they just don't have any struggle to compare their good lives too so their lives just seem normal too them. i mean.... going from school to buzzfeed to youtube was never a path that would make them learn the value of a dollar because they were always working with other peoples funds not their own.

These guys just killed their careers. If they manage to keep the lights on, their lifestyle will most certainly change. They lost the plot about where they came from and who "paid" them. Words and a random smile can be a true gift, and you never know what impact they can have. I learned that in a very real and humbling experience. I am soooo glad that i found your channel. Not only do you brighten my days, but you are a bright light for the future.

Bob Dylan went electric in 1965. He was hated for it. Fast forward to today, he's considered one of the best rock acts in history. What the boys did at Buzzfeed and Watcher will still go down as some of the best content on UA-cam.

I actually saw bob dylan perform in a coffe house in the mid 60s. That probably skews my opinion but these guys are not bod dylan. We will see. If i was a betting woman i would bet on this - but, i am not a betting woman.

Oh they don't need Raid. They've got plenty of sponsors. They've been sponsored by several different movies, and have plenty of high tier sponsors besides.
they felt like they didn't wanna play by the sponsors rules and so because they didn't like getting millions of dollars with strings attached they thought why not make our community pay for our selfish desires. gives off the same vibes as a trust fund child who makes a scene when they're treated like everyone else instead of having their ass kissed simply for breathing the same air.

Glad to find another person who hadn't heard of Watcher before this recent furore! Was surprised to see Ryan and Shane in all the Watcher thumbnails; I hadn't even known they'd left Buzzfeed. I don't watch ghost hunting type stuff generally but the banter between the guys made their Unsolved series entertaining.
I agree with what you said about UA-camrs giving a feeling of talking "to" (rather than "at") viewers; that's what Ryan and Shane were great at back in the day and I think they should be focussing on that kind of content instead of high-budget over-produced stuff that's already available on huge streaming platforms. I imagine that a lot of people who "watch" UA-cam aren't even pointing our eyes at the screen anyway; we are using videos as podcasts while we're doing other things. Hopefully the Watcher team learned from this mess.

That was a great summary of the shit show Watcher put out. Thank you for validating the views of so many ppl regarding this money grab lame attempt. Am never watching their stuff again, the videos made on this subject are way better than anything they put out. I'm not going to sit here and pretend I don't want a better lifestyle for me and that I don't want more money. But hearing an estimate of how much they make from Charlie really made me feel like Ryan and Shane aren't just in this for the content creation they enjoy, they're in this for just the money all this time. Cos why would they even green-light a decision like that if they really, truly believed we should "eat the rich?" And hearing Shane say we all can afford $5.99? Made me feel like I'm not their desired audience. So even if they did backpedal, I'm still not part of that demographic. And I'm sorry I'm not, I guess.
Steven's smiling sigh when Ryan said "if it's our final goodbye to you" is so toxic ew it sure is our final goodbye then. Unsub. :(
They really forgot that the world is struggling right now and a 5 dollar loaf of bread Vs a sub to their content is a ridiculous ask to those who are living just within their means
@@TrentCetera Right? Their yearly sub is a month's worth of food for a 2-person household where I'm from. Of course I have it but that just means I pick a month when I don't eat just so I can fund a tiny fraction of Steven's expensive food *once* lol. I'm not the only international audience that groaned at the price, either.

I wonder what the guys are gonna do. Move to a smaller studio, fire half of the staff ( or make some of them part time?), or ask the staffs to voluntarily quit with some compensation, and stop making videos that costs money. The solution is pretty easy, IF they are willing to do that.
hey thanks!!! I call it my 1 Karat gold chain LOL! I think the irony in this is that UA-cam forced them into dealing with their over expansion themselves so yeah I think downsizing the operation will be the first of many things they will do to cut costs and get more videos out of their budget.
I really hope Shane, Ryan, and Steven watch this.

I’ve lost any trust I had in Shane and Ryan. The manipulation and greed on display just leaves a terrible taste in my mouth.
Its a shame when people like me were introduced to them through this. first impressions are everything and content creators need to realize their job is a never ending first impression cycle
@@TrentCetera I can’t imagine this debacle inspiring new subscribers to sub to them. It really was a huge mistake. Here’s hoping they don’t completely implode because of all of this.

thanks!! More videos out soon, editing as I write this! As time passes my videos will be more up to date but currently being a One man team with other obligations sometimes my videos will be a little bit late to the punch but In my current content arc I would rather make 1 week old content that is digestible rather than throw screengrabs on top of raw video just to be the first to talk about a situation.
