YOU'RE A MAD GENIUS. I've been trying to figure out if the embellish thing was even worth buying and I found this video while looking. I'm pretty sure if it can withstand a drill it can withstand me using it.
Love the things you make with this iCord. I made my 7yo hand crank this. She boringly said how much work it was. I told her I used to do this by hand. A wooden doll, with 4 pins, one loop at the time. She just didn't believe me.
I knitted over 5lbs of yarn in an hour this way. I freaking love you for this idea man. My husband thinks it's hilarious watching me "drill" my machine. Btw, I used a 9/32" flat head bit on my "Embellish Knit" and it fits perfectly.
Thank you for this - I don't think I ever commented when I first found this, but I've been using this trick for ages now to use up a stash of extremely fine yarn.
That is ridiculously fast! I loved every minute of it! I would never have thought to use a drill with a flathead attachment to make the cord! That is what I call innovation!
Omg this is the coolest thing I ever saw! It was extremely satisfying to watch. I watched it 5 times. My first Highlight of 2021!! I love to watch DIY AND hacks for various subjects whether is a wood shop tutorial, baking cooking, sewing knitting gardens electronic repairs watch repair . I love just watching them all. I live to see how everything is made or how certain tools gadgets or mechanisms work. The was extremely clever. You should figure out how to make a stand with a clamp to hold the I-CORD MAKER and DRILL, so your arms don't get tired. Or you should experiment with a dermal rotary tool. Reason why I suggested is because: -It is small and compact -it is light weight and decently powerful. - you can adjust the speed to various setting from a switch - the rotation is very consistent and synchronised -and it also comes with many many small useful mechanisms for multiple uses like polishing cleaning, grinding, cutting etc.here in Canada It costs like 50-60 bucks you should really check it out Or you can try using an inexpensive pedestal fan, maybe about 15-30 dollars. Just assemble the stand and rotary motor and doing attach the fan-blades and safety cage. Figure out how to fit the threaded rotating shaft to the I-Cord maker’s chuck. That will also give you some effortless consistent speed with a flick of a switch. Some how try to figure out how to clamp I-Cord machine in place. You can use your hands to sort and control the ICord making sure it comes out nicely. Holding a drill for minute at a time can get exhausting. And with the manual trigger on the drill the speed can fluctuate ... Other than that, it is a brilliant and time-saving IDEA. While watching you video I just what else can rotate that can save your arms from getting tired... You can also figuring out how to invent a yarn ball-wonder using the pedestal fan holder!!! Anyway, I hope you get a chance to read over my ideas that sprouted out from your genius hack. You should try and share a demo video... Looking forward to see more!! Happy New Year to you and your family!!!
What a fantastic way to speed it up. Thanks for sharing your good idea. Just got my cords making mill trying to get the hang of it your idea is very helpfull. 😉🙏🏼😍
I took the plunge and tried this. All I can say is WOW!! After hand cranking 18 skeins of yarn I was more than ready to try it your way. It really works! Thanks ever so much!
Wow! That would use up a large stash quick! A few years ago I was making i-cord necklaces using double pointed needles and thread then putting large hole beads on them. It took a while and I sold a good bunch but I grew tired of the knitting part. I love the idea of the rug your making. I also have bulky weight yarn that looks like it is i-cord. Humm. I can make my own bulking weight yarn for some projects! I love your video. Thanks a bunch!!
THIS IS SO GREAT!!!!!!!! This tip made me whole day--I really hate making I-cord by hand because it goes so slow, but this is great! Too bad this machine isn't able to handle worsted weight yarns, though. Thanks for sharing this technique!
I got my embellish knit yesterday and tried the power tool method, one very important thing for all of you thinking about doing this, be sure to check the size of your flathead bit. If it's just a bit too small you will end up scratching up the inside of your opening where the crank goes. Don't discount this method, it is really super fast and if you're doing a big rug project and need a lot of icord, this is the best way...just remember the tension!!!
I have used my small rechargeable screwdriver for this. Works great. I can only use weight 3 or under (usually shown on the label of yarn) . I have tried using 4 but it just wont work for me. I love this thing. I am making scarves from different colors of I-cord worn together.
I love my "embelish knit" thing.. I never thought to use a power drill! i just used the crank for days and days! I do about 4 skeins per project.. it gets to the point where you don't need a weight
Absolutely brilliant! For your 120 feet of icord, how do you attach another ball of yarn? Would you post again on how you make the rein? It's so beautiful I would love to see how you put it together. Very creative in all senses!
You might find that a Clover Wonder Knitter makes I-cord faster than knitting by hand. Each time you make a stitch, you advance the spool with your thumb. It goes pretty quickly, and you don't have to factor in time to slide stitches to the other end of your needle.
I bought and Embellish Knit machine today and have already made tons of I-cord. So I was wondering what do you do with it all? I really like the rug you showed towards the end.
Oh, oh. Did 2 1/2 skeins using this method and now the plastic is wearing to where the screwdriver won't turn it any longer. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but can't figure out what it would be since it worked at first. Maybe because the Embellish Knit is plastic this isn't such a good idea. Any help or suggestions? Thanks in advance!
can I ask you what short of wool do you use as I have tried a lot and they all get stuck at the top and I have to cut it free, it looks so easy, but I can not do any please help, I live in the uk ,many thanks
ok dumb question I make jewelry and I would love to use this machine to make necklace cords. for the lead ropes and the rug what kind of fiber are you using?
Thank you. I've had mine in the perfect place for the last year..... in the package. Found it tonight wanted to do some spool knitting with wire but don't have that much tine. Found the knitter. They left out one instruction that really missed me up. I saw the answer here with you. You looped the first needle. They didn't tell me that. So thanks. Now a question. With the spool knitter and viking knitter I can use wire. But I really don't want to count anything. Just want it to happen. I know this knitter has very small latch hooks. If I get a very small guage of craft wire and go slow could I use the wire. If so could you do a demonstration?
I used my icord machine hooked up to a drill last night and used sock weight yarn super fine #1. I wanted to know the heaviest weight yarn you use with a drill hooked up. Also, I can't find any information how to joint one icord to another without the obvious knot, do you know?
I wonder which makes of i-cord machines have detachable crank and flat head will fit into? How long do they put up with this sort of punishment? Great idea though! You could also make espadrille bottoms out of the cord, just sew it round for slippers and then attach top to the shoe-shaped base.
My understanding is that the Embellish Knit can't handle worsted or medium weight yarn, has that been your experience too? Right now I'm crocheting a heavy blanket made from i-cord with worsted yarn. So far I have turn 5 skeins of yarn into i-cord by hand but it is a LONG process! I have been looking at getting a crank i-cord maker but most of them can't handle worsted weight yarns.
I'm just wondering if the guts/gears inside it stand up well to long-term, high-speed use. At least, now I know how the large ball of i-cord I picked up at a second-hand shop was made. Thanks for the video!
quick question. the rug at the end that you show, i was wondering how you started it? i have lots of leftover yarn and now i know what i want to do with it. if not i can fix one of my looms and make a ten stitch i cord blanket. that might look pretty cool.
Great tutorial on how to make the i-cord faster. I have a question. You can take the handle out easily as it can be put back or you have to use force to pull the handle? I do not want to break the handle. Can someone answer it? Will try to search where can i buy this kind of Embelish Knit in Malaysia.
I love this idea! I got my icord maker, but unfortunately the style has changed and the hole for the handle doesn't have the same square shape and the drill bits don't work. I tried the largest (SQ5) square bit that I could find, but it is a hair too small and is stripping the plastic. I now need a 6-mm square drill bit head to fit the hole. Or I have to make one. Probably will end up making one. Any ideas from the hive would be much appreciated! If I can get this to work, it is going into a mini continuous warp system for my table loom. For those who said that it only does fingering or sock-weight yarn, it can do more. Probably lace weight up to DK weight, even a worsted if you are careful. With the thicker yarns, you will need more weight. It may be more finicky to get started. Try a carabiner clip with nuts added for extra weight (the more nuts, the more weight). To 'attach' it to the icord, just make a slip knot in the icord tail and hang it from there. To hold the excess of yarn as it is being made, a 2.4" binder clip (office supplies) works well for a small ball of yarn. Or if the yarn ball gets large enough, try clipping the icord end to the ball with a flat hair clip. When I get these mods worked out, the recordings will go up on my video. Again, thank you for sharing. This is a brilliant hack!
@@DutchHollow It looks like yours has a square inside the machine where the handle fits into it. On mine, that square is absent. This video cracks me up! You are my kind of knitter. Clearly you do not subscribe to the "knitting is soooo relaxing" school of thought.
I laughed out loud when you brought out the power drill. This is the best thing. XD
Are you kidding me? You’re a GENIUS!!!!!!!!!!
YOU'RE A MAD GENIUS.
I've been trying to figure out if the embellish thing was even worth buying and I found this video while looking. I'm pretty sure if it can withstand a drill it can withstand me using it.

I recently bought one of those dolls at an estate sale 😆

Came back to read the comments just to see the drill bits that works perfectly! Cheers.

This made me happy in the most basic and true way. Thank you.
I have a power drill. Now all I need is that embellish knit thingy! I don't even need to make I-cords but seeing ur video makes me want to make some!
Exactly what I'm thinking!!
I know right, an impulsive temptation
BTW...you are a genius! I luv youtube! Someone always has a better idea!
I love this! My husband suggested something similar years ago, but I never got around to trying it. Such a good idea!! Thanks for sharing.
That is ridiculously fast! I loved every minute of it! I would never have thought to use a drill with a flathead attachment to make the cord! That is what I call innovation!
Thank you so much for confirming the need to be sure you get a flat head bit that fits!
This totally amazes me usually it is a man that wants to attach an electric motor spinning wheels or ball winders. Good work, great video.
This is an answer to my prayers! Wow. I have been doing too much by hand stitch by stitch. Thank you for thinking this up. Love your reins also.
that drill trick is a HOOT!! love it!

thanks for great tip now I'm going to make that kool looking rug with all of my left over yarn....thanks so much for sharing😊
oOoO a scrap I cord! Good idea!
This is the best idea! Made my day!
You can make rugs, or knit with it as a super bulky yarn, makes a REALLY warm hat.

Oh, this is fantastic. I've ordered exactly that i-cord maker and I can't wait for it to arrive so I can try this.
Really enjoyed this, really helpful, loved your energy in putting this video together.
Yes!!!! LMAO. I love to knit but don't have a lot of time, this helps. Thank you
HA! Lol! This is so something I would do/come up with. TYFS....so nice to know someone else thinks outside the box. P.S. tx for the smile.

This is amazing! Thank YOU for sharing this magic ❤️
This is so awesome! Thanks for sharing a great tip.
That is awesome! What a great idea and thanks for sharing!
You're my hero with this! xD Now to just get a drill!
Wonderful idea! Thank you for sharing! I will definitely be doing this.

I bought and Embellish Knit machine today and have already made tons of I-cord. So I was wondering what do you do with it all? I really like the rug you showed towards the end.
can't wait to try this thanks have to find the drill now
Yes, do you have to damage the handle in any way to remove it?
Stinkin awesome! When I use the iCord maker I get skips, grrr! I'm off to dig out DH's drill!
Oh, oh. Did 2 1/2 skeins using this method and now the plastic is wearing to where the screwdriver won't turn it any longer. if you roll it up and put it in a sock maybe to keep it contained or a zip up bag as it gets bigger.
amanda smith great idea
Brilliant video thank you I have just ordered one of them
Wow, you're a genius! I'm going to try this weekend! Thanks for sharing. :-)
can you use medium 4 yarn????
I wanna make these into braclets and stuff.
This is brilliant!
I would suggest a corded drill so you don't burn up your expensive battery for your cordless drill =)
GENIUS !!!! I don't know what else to say!
You are brilliant!
Thank for sharing!!! ThAnk you........could make video on making lead rope??

LOL great your a genius. Love this
Can someone tell me what is the diameter of the cord produce from this tool?
Could this tool be used to create a lamp cord cover?
This looks like it could be a lot of fun. Another thing you could use it for is to make the squigly bits for a brain cap! *plots*
Totally awesome!! thanks for sharing!
Wonderful idea! Thanks!
American ingenuity. excellent

Thanks for the video!
Irony, I broke my cordless drill! The plastic Embelish-knit is still going strong!

This method looks fantastic. I am going to try it soon, I hope :-)
You can make rugs with iCord many different ways. The one I showed in the video is a crochet rug but you could knit or weave one too form the iCord.
Gorgeous, that makes me laugh, you have to come up with this idea first!😂
