The days when rallying was fun and spectators could help!!!!Thanks FIA,you always spoil the fun!The range was custom-built in Kenya and driven by Kenyan Rob Collinge.
I like how Malboro sponsored the rally for such a long time and yet malboro cigs were so exclusive and nowhere to be found in Kenya.... All the same this is so nostalgic....
@kungumaito I thought "Kenya Juu" was the Range Rover of Rob Collinge. He did not take part in the 86 Safari. That particular 'Rover was of Steve Rose I think.
the s4 was far to expensive to run, not as reliable as the 037 and the first four wheel drive winner wasn't until 87. so 4wd was not always needed and toivonen may have been dead by then

@skrapehaug
He sadly passed away in 2006. So have Torph, Hellier and Criticos - all top ten finishers of the 86 Safari. R.I.P
Audi did around 4 WRC events in 1987 with the 200 Quattro. Monte, Safari, Acropolis and 1000 Lakes(Finland). I think.
These were the golden days of rallying.
H.Toivonen took time of to do extra testing with the Delta S4 in Corsica thats why he didnt do the Safari
Why H.Toivonen didn't drive this rally??? And why the Lancia team used the 037, not the Delta S4???

Delta S4, is not developed completely at this race, for this reason, prefer used 037, byebye
