Basically, they've created a smaller F-16 XL
Sweden had "F-16XL" in the 50´s fighter J35 Draken. The Gripen is much better though.
Big does not always mean more creative or better. But I yield, quantity is a quality in itself.
@@dogone7262 You missed the point F16-XL was an experimental aircraft, much similar in performance to the Grippen than the original F-16. The comment was not intended towards size. Also comparing the Drakken to the F-16 is pointless, different eras different spec aircrafts (multi role vs interceptor), etc.

If only it could go mach 2...
Everyone claims Mach 2. It is standard practice. True top speed is usually a secret number. But not a single fighter with an acrylic "front window" will ever pass Mach 2.1. It will simply melt. When you use long range missiles the top speed must be confidently above Mach 1, more like Mach 1.4-1.5, and your tactics must be spot on even in a contested environment.

It does not look particularly stealthy?
It has 1,2 m2 RCS so its not the best 4 gen figter jet but its not bad, best things of Grippen E on my mind are its radar and its cheep as milk to fly and it can do all things what 4 gen figter jet is require to do

@@FinTomTom The Gripen is hard to see too, with your eyes. But I would challenge the RCS you mentioned. Ask other air forces..
@@dogone7262 Yes its hard to find the correct rcs, some sources say its 1,2 m2 and other say its 0,5 m2 but 1,2 is not bad for non stealth jet
