Tried this today! Worked on my 2005 Pajero! Had to crank the shit out of that Allen key tho, by the looks of my old clock spring that wheel hasn't been taken off since 19 years. Note: you can undo that nut fully and the wheel will just come off super smooth. There is a little plastic piece which keeps the nut in place so it doesn't fall out. I owe you one! You just saved a backpacker a small fortune! New clock spring and the Allan key just cost me 100$ in total! Absolute legend!
Nice one mate . I used the Video to o. So helpful . It not only fixed my cruise control , but also seems to have fixed my power steering too.Unsure if it was a reset from the power draining .I also put steering wheel back on and went for a test drive.All good , but the steering was off centre a tad . So got home and readjusted it, without disconnecting the battery . No exploding airbag lol . Bit risky I know.As far as the 8mm allen bolt goes its best to turn it completely . It cant fall out. Thank you very much for sharing as it has rectified my cruise control,horn and SRS light problems! When I opened the old clock spring cover it was twisted up and in tatters. very good info. I would use a wider prying tool, that screwdriver will leave dings and marks. I don't have to use your video info, but I loved that detailed step by step info.
Just make sure that you put the wheel back on all the way. I stuffed up by replacing the bolt back in the wheel and forgetting to take it out before reinstalling the wheel. As a result, the wheel didn't go on enough to engage the clock spring. When I took it for a test drive, the stability control engaged unexpectedly and activated the brakes on the left, pulling the car into the next lane. No fun at all.
Brother, fantastic helper vid. I did this myself just now on my 03 Montero, and to complete success. I don't know how long my clock-spring had been bad, but i do know that the cruise control had been out for a few years (something I could live without). But a couple weeks ago the entire spring must have just snapped and the ribbon was making a horrible noise, the horn quit working, and the SRS light came on...Anyway, your video put me in right direction to get this job done. As a side note, everything works, but ALSO, some of the lights on the dash that WERE failing are now working -- i don't quite understand how all of those were related, but perhaps the bad clock-spring wiring was confusing the others??? (Not an electrician). Thanks again.
Hi David, can you share the link of the clock spring? I noticed that yours has a green connector while the ones in stock are black and rectangular connector...

Worked for me thanks it was very helpful. It was very hard to loosen the nut on the steering wheel but the rest was fairly straight forward.

Im no expert mate . But the draining the power once the battery was disconnected may have sorted out a reset on your dash lights.John T
