He’s awesome! He is very articulate and sophisticated in how he comes across. No ego and just a down to earth person, the kind of guy you could just take a coffee with and just chat.
I have been listening to Avatar since 2013ish and I finally got to see them live recently. I loved the show so much that it has inspired me to start playing music again after nearly 25 years. Avatar is a true inspiration for me and I cannot wait to see another of their shows.
I really enjoyed this interview. Johannes seems very down to earth and I love that he looks for things to do when he's touring rather than getting wasted. He's blessed to be touring all over - what an opportunity to see so many things! Who he surrounds himself says much about him. Very impressed.
Avatar is such an awesome band and not just for their amazing skill but they also come across as decent people. I am loving their new album 'Dance Devil Dance' but have become somewhat obsessed with listening to 'Feathers & Flesh' over and over. Concept albums fascinate me.
Absolutely amazing opening act for Tuska 2023, can't say that I was expecting the on-stage shipping of the band and the festival but I'm here for it! It's fun seeing them going from posting their own songs on Reddit to being this successful.
I saw a live concert on UA-cam accidentally Hellfest if i remember well,i was not a fan till then but i like them, so after this interview i will dive more into their music. He is a great speaker and he is so humble !
Well Johannes, I had a lot of comments already done here on everything you had said up to the part about your family, even siblings being teachers and all, but my damn typing board somehow erased everything, and it's probably my dumbass fat thumbs messing it up, but basically I had said that I find it very interesting on your comments about the classical music thing when you were young, and that you very much enjoy things like Beethoven!!! And I really can't remember everything else that I had said on other questions you answered, but I know that where I left off at before my comments got erased was you talking about being a teacher if you weren't a musician, that most of your family are teachers, and I just basically said that I believe that you could do anything in life for a living, because you definitely seem to be one hell of a very smart guy, and also well educated, but I am very glad that you did become a musician in the band you and your school buddies created called Avatar, because if you had done something else, then the killer metal outfit called Avatar wouldn't exist!!! Anyhoo, now I'm going to continue watching your interview, and I still have a half of another one I need to finish from the other night!!! Lol, but I will, absolutely will bro!!! On the comments you made about festivals vs indoor venues, and those types of shows, but I myself have always preferred watching a band or bands perform at the indoor venues because first of all, I definitely dig the light shows and stage shows in the darker environments vs outdoors where they don't show up nearly as well unless it's gotten totally dark outside!!! But also, indoor venues tend to have a lot less crowd to move around through if one is needing the bathroom, or a beverage, or a snack to eat!!! Lol Yeah, I kinda figured that you fellas got along very well because of two things that come to mind right away, and one is the fact that you had said in the other interview I was watching the other night that you and Jonas and John were all friends from school when you were much younger, and I am not sure about the other two fellas in Avatar as to whether or not they too were buddies from school or not, but the second thing I noticed about all 5 of you in Avatar seem to always be having a lot of fun at it while playing live, and even some of the studio things I have seen so far!!! On the physical fitness thing, but I would assume that you are already doing a pretty good job of staying fit by being a vegetarian to start with, and from what I've observed over the years, including some of my own friends that are musicians, and one of those actually came very close to making it big in a band called Sirfice as I once pointed out already, but my point is the workout that you fellas get on stage 5-7 days or nights a week!!! Because I have watched many famous bands live, and my bass player buddiy who almost got signed with Sirfice, and when the members of the bands are actually doing their job as I've definitely seen you fellas doing, you'll definitely get a decent workout alright, but I'm sure that it also helps quite a bit doing a workout regimen off the stage as often as possible too!!! Now I was just listening to you talk about either fast food or fine dining, and I am wondering if I really did understand you correctly in the other interview I was watching, but I was thinking that I understood you as saying that you are a vegetarian, but in fairness, when you made your comments here, you really didn't clarify whether or not you're a total vegetarian, or do actually still eat meat of any sort??? But I was just wondering about it because I had said before that my wife is total vegetarian, and has been now for about 35 years out of the 45 we've been together!!! Lol again!!! Wow on the jazz thing, but the reason I said that is because I assumed that your answer would have been classical music, but either way, from what I've observed over the years is that either one of those types of music are very hard to do, and I am definitely not saying that you're not capable, because I already have seen and heard enough of your talents to know that you can absolutely do either one of those!!! But it just kinda caught me by surprise that you chose jazz over the classical thing!!! Yeah, as I mentioned on the other interview when I first learned that you do your own makeup, but that's another artistic talent you have bro, because almost everyone else that has worn makeup as a rock musician that I've watched over the years has always had a makeup artist do it for them vs someone like yourself doing your own!!! Very cool and interesting bro!!! 👍. And yes, it's always super great when whatever you do in life, having good people around who care about you as a person, and especially ones wife, kids and anyone family!!! But damn good friends really help as well, and even they are like family if they really are damn good friends!!! And you just said it with Avatar, but your comment about Avatar being a brotherhood!!! 👍 And yeah, I can totally understand why you said the thing about when you're at any type of show, but being in an environment where only the people who are supposed to be there are, and not a lot of the riff raff that shows up at these concerts and rock and metal shows, because a lot of them are not good decent people, and nothing but "TROUBLE" !!! But I do also have to admit that I myself have been to several damn good shows where the crowds weren't so huge, even a couple where they were, but getting to actually meet some of the rock musicians that I am a huge fan of, and two really good example's are I actually got to meet Jason Beeler (and hopefully I spelled his last name right???), but the guitar player and at times lead vocalist from Saigon Kick in a smaller venue about 25 years ago or more, but the guy was kind enough to have a long conversation with me about his band and many other things too, and another example of getting to meet some of the best in the business was the 3 different times that my wife and I went to see the Trans Siberian Orchestra, but the conversation part was a lot more limited for obvious reasons, but still a very killer experience for my wife and I!!! And on the Devond Townsend fella, but I have heard of him many of times over the years, and his band Strapping Young Lad, but I have to admit ashamedly that he and his band are yet another one of those that I have been procrastinating since for way too long, so now that you've mentioned him, I realize that I've got more homework to do!!! Lol As far as you fellas being able to keep the "SPARK" as you put it, but I am totally confident that you will, and that your brand of metal music will continue to grow, and just keep getting better and better every song you fellas write, and every album you make, and every live show you do, and that the performance's and light shows and everything involved with Avatar will just keep getting much better as all the way around bro!!! Have a great one, and I will say peace bro!!! May God be with you all!!! Ernie Wilber 🤘👹🤘✌️
