Ironwood: “It goes without saying that this arena holds… a significance… to all of us.”
Penny: “I died here! 😊”
Yang : "Last time I was here, People thought I assaulted someone...fun times"
Yang and the ghost of Pyrrha: same.
I liked how you pointed out the LOGIC of Ironwood, since his semblance (not stated anywhere in the series itself, it was stated outside of it, so it isn't a spoiler) is called Mettle, and it allows him to essentially think in a completelly logical way, ignoring all emotions, which is very fitting for a military leader.
Adding on, it gives him the mettle to push through hard decisions and rationalize them as the correct one
Wait, so wouldn't that be like a more precise version of Ren's semblance?
Since Ren's semblance masks fear?
@@F.S.S.64 rens masks emotion, but he can control it. Ironwoods rationalizes emotion and can't be turned off. I explain it like this; there was this medal of honor winner in Vietnam who got shot like 13 times, blown up by a grenade, and was missing a limb, but still made like 10 trips into an ambush to pull every member of his squad to the evac helicopter. That's mettle, but
**Spoilers Ahead**
what if the decision he's making is to sacrifice others instead of himself? Any action, be it getting shot and being burned, or shooting others and burning them, is rationalized as as correct to complete his objective.
We see it a few times in the show. Watch for when he is fretting over a decision or freaking out about something, then suddenly gets calm and makes a declaration about the exact actions that need to happen. That's mettle activating.
@@F.S.S.64 Not exactly. Ren's semblance is a little more than masking fear (actually is negative emotions), it masks them, but the people still fell the emotions, Ren just make it invisible to Grim. Also, there is more to it than simply masking emotions (spoilers, so I won't say much).
Ironwood's semblance is a complete nullfication of his own emotions, he doesn't mask it, he get rid of it entirelly. It makes him not only able to negate negative emotions, but any positive ones as well. He becomes someone with only the logical side being active, so he will act according to his own logic (be it right or not), and not care at all about any emotion he may have. It's great for doing some hard decisions, but can lead to some moraly dubious ones as well, since any form of sympathy he may have would be gone.
Huh, never went outside the series myself, so...i guess that does make sense..especially with how we've seen him fight before
16:11
And here we have a fun on-screen interaction: Vegeta/Piccolo's Dub VA (Chris Sabat) as Watts, and Lord Beerus' Dub VA (Jason Douglas) in Jacques, reunited under different circumstances. It makes me chuckle every time
I just love Ruby's subtle expression change at 8:55 saying, "Wait, what, not friends?" and then when Weiss said family Ruby's face changed to, "Oh, ok, yeah that, that's what we are."
I’ve never picked up on that before! Thanks for pointing that out!
@@jessc.994 no problem
crazy thing to think about:
Ruby was moved up 2 years as a first year at Beacon.
Its been a year(?) maybe two(?) since the series started meaning shes a year younger than or the exact age of the 1st year students right now.
Ruby just got her official Huntsmen License.
Hypothetically speaking, Ruby could be the youngest registered Huntsmen in Remnant's history.
Not saying she is, but its very very possible.
She deserves to be in the history books 😊
Jacques Schnee wears a clip-on tie!
So do I 😂
16:50 Beerus the Destroyer (Jacques) and Vegeta (Watts) doing a crossover in RWBY.
Penny bouncing up and down with excitement and Winter placing a calming hand on her is a nod to R2D2 and Theepio in Star Wars.
How people perceive you is important when you want them to follow you in fighting against creatures that thrive on negativity
Valid point 🙂
For those of you who haven't kept track, they were only at Beacon for one year of training, when usually you graduate after 4, its now been one year since they left beacon, if Ruby wasn't moved ahead (and Beacon wasn't destroyed) she would only be starting at the academy this year, while the rest would be half-way through.
I don't know why, but every time I see that stupid round ice cube in his glass, I hate Jacques even more.
It's a type of ice cube called a Whiskey ice ball, or ice sphere, or one of many other names. Often served with whiskey cocktails such as an Old Fashioned, or similar types of spirits-based drinks. So definitely a pretentious thing to drink in your private study, helps give Jacques an "Old Money" kind of vibe which further makes him feel despicable. Hope that helps.
21:30, something too remember about TEAM RWBY, and Yang said it perfectly to FLASH in their LAST outing, "Lived ALOT of life for a kid."
stil love they put the creators name monty oum over the shot of the staff of creation
I just want to point out that, even if it's pretty subtile, I love the evolution of the relationship between Blake and Weiss. In Volume 1 there is the big reaveal that Blake is a faunus and the distrust, some self reflexion from Weiss part and acceptance. Since then we have seen Weiss taking action when people mention Blake is a faunus in the bad way, we even see her talking kindly and empathize with Blake when she talk with Yang about loneliness. Now Blake is the first to reach out to Weiss when she see how she react to Jacques, put a hand on her shoulder and take her hand in the end. Blake know damn well how manipulative people work from experience and recognize that imediatly, so she act, and stand beside her friend, her family, to let her know she is not alone.
After years of people whining about these seasons for some good reasons and many stupid reasons, making hours and hours of repetitive and toxic vidoe essays that could be recapped with "I don't like when my favorite edgelord gets beaten" or "I don't like when the strong manly character gets a negative character arc so i'm gonna make up reasons why he was 100% right"
After enduring all of this stupidity in this community, it's good to see people and comments just enjoying that show.
ya i agree unpopular opinion, but 6 through 8 is peak rwby
Personally, volume 7 is my favourite… I think it’s the most solid and consistently good… 6 and 8 are a bit of a mixed bag, despite some really good parts and cool ideas… 9 a bit more so in both directions… Maybe if it had a few more episodes it would be more comparable too… Ah well… But yeah, I really enjoy this one.
@@KitsyXvol 7 is def the best volume
I love the Atlas arc. I think the animation and character work is amazing. It was a little sour to hear all those opinions, but to each their own.
I don't know if you two know, but Weiss' Dad is Beerus's English voice actor.
And Watts is Vegeta, so an all-Dragonball final scene.
And Qrow's new VA is Broly
@@KingNemean Actually his old VA is Broly (Vic), the new one is Champa (Jason).
@@Andrew1990M Didn't he voice the NEW Broly?
@Andrew1990M nevermind you right
Nora putting in the work this volume! Definitely need her colour this volume. Now that you mention it, family might actually be the "theme" for this volume. Rwby and RNJR, very close families. Qrow and Ruby, Schnees, the Ace Ops. The Happy Huntresses vs Atlas. Not knowing who to trust with your family and secrets. You get a really wide range of relationships. And I think that's why I love this show so much.
Yeah Nora is a rockstar this volume 😀
Nora being best girl, who’s surprised?
"Trust Love" - Jeff Williams (ft. Casey Lee Williams)
The cake IS A LIE!
Wierd reminder...Dr Watts's voice actor is done by Christopher Robin Sabat who has also voice 2 characters dubbed you maybe familiar...Vegeta and piccolo
Ironwood feels like the personification of the old addage : "The end justify the means" and that becomes clearer the longer you watch
HE DID mean Weiss when he 1st said YOU
Next episode: a group of people you haven't seen in a while
This episode Solidified any last doubts for most people that Weiss was best girl. She came so far from the judgmental and slightly racist Heiress we saw in Volume 1, she became found sisters with her family’s former enemy and began healing at least 2 generations of pain between the races. Her father on the other hand is still the same sniveling Snake he’s always been.
Ironwood is the head of the military and runs the school too, so it's more than likely he was seen as a hero, because of his rank and title he's probably expecting everyone to follow him, the problem is he's not behaving like a hero, telling ironwood the truth would be the more difficult path and the longer they wait the more difficult it will become
Keep Ironwood's initial reaction to Jaune in mind. Ironwood has gotten used to having people agree with him and follow his orders without question, and there is a certain well known problem that comes with that...
Stuff like this that some people might not realise at first bc, well, he's taking to Jacques. Everyone* hates Jacques, so it's only natural to be on Jim's side here. Not til watching back after the downfall that it's easier to see where it came from.
*a certain subset might not :/
There is also normal psychological aspect to it - people generally don't like their mistakes or even problematic things they did pointed out. Or even questioned.
@@FixTheWi-Fi great insight
Have they found out ironwoods semblance yet?
Watts is just shadow Jaque xD
I really feel for ironwood
18:15, had that same feeling when I talked to my dad once: he accused me of being like e ery other teenager, knowing everything about the world while really knowing nothing.
I countered with, "NO, not everything, but enough not to be surprised."
i will die on this hill, but ironwood is the best written character in rwby
At least this volume …
He is the only character we've seen who is smart enough to surrender to Qrow face to face.
@@GenZealous nah, I don't want to get into spoilers, but if you like character development and aren't biased on wanting certain outcomes, his entire arc through these volumes is fantastic. (Not saying your opinion is invalid. Just that the writing is amazing, even if you don't like the story they are telling)
This episode truly makes you just care for Ironwood in a way that few others have. You see how hard he’s trying. You see the mistakes he’s making and the good intentions behind him. You see how lonely and desparate he is for people around him but also how he continues to hold himself up as THE final bastion of humanity. His VA and the animation team truly killed it this episode.
Yall mentioned Ruby still being a kid but feels almost wrong to call her that now. It’s only been about a Year and a half in Universe since she first stepped foot inside Beacon as a new student. She was 15 then, so she’s about 16 and a half give or take. The rest of the team even Nora, Ren and Jaune are all about 18ish now. I’m guessing by the end of the series in Volume 10 Ruby will ride off into the sunset if she survives or end up with someone like Oscar or Jaune…but I’m still leaning in for Jaune and Weiss 🤞 That man has been dedicated 😂
In this episode you see the stark contrast between the A.C.E Ops and team RWBY. The A.C.E Ops are co-workers or teammates and that’s all. At the end of the day they are still individuals. Team RWBY on the other hand are friends, teammates, and the family they chose for themselves. Every person has two families, the one you’re born in and the one you choose for yourself.
It's a shame that rooster teeth went with dc instead of marvel then the joke I was about to use would work better when you said sinister because watts reminds me of Mr. Sinister the he said have your cake and eat it too
Well, considering that Rooster teeth was bought by WB, it made a lot more sense to make a crossover with the other label owned by the same company.
It wasn't a random choice
Ruining great characters in...
