I'm listening to this whole collection and it is fantastic! I'll be purchasing a copy before the night is over. I first began exploring the big band era in the '80s and I remember thinking at one point, "these guys are rocking as hard as any rock band I'd ever loved. Quibble with the word "rock" if you want to, but these folks are playing at least as intensely. Maybe more so since many of them are more talented than a lot of what passes for musicianship now days. And often getting into funky, soulful grooves as sweat drenched as anything James Brown ever played...in my humble opinion anyway.
