Crazy timing on this vid as I went to see my first London lions game a few weeks back (and first pro game) vs Cheshire. My friend and I giggled at dekker when we remembered the shaqtin a fool clip but he ended up having a good game, mad respect to him. Amazing atmosphere in the arena too and a crazy finish to the game! It's really interesting to hear his story. Great video
From watching his career starting in high school in Wisconsin, he has always been a stand out player and an elite scorer in clutch situations. I really think he just ended up on some NBA squads that were looking for complete rebuilds. Harden, like with every team he's signed with, wasn't working out in Houston and the bench guys and guys fighting for a starting spot get forgotten about. I really think he still has the ability to be an NBA starter and to shoot above 40% for 3.
@@cristovaocosta1843 Not every other league, no. That may have been the case 30 odd years ago but not now. I've seen NBA players averaging 10 or 15 points per game flopping in Greece and France, not to mention players dominating in the Eurocup looking out of their depth at Euroleague level. Rest of the world is catching up.
As a fellow UK based basketball fan and somebody who has followed the sport (NBA) closely since the early-mid 90’s, I’ve got to give you respect as somebody who clearly knows his stuff and obviously loves the game. I played for the Leicester Riders under 15’s and 17’s and had a season ticket with them for a number of years, but haven’t really followed them for the past 20 years. Your videos are making me want to start paying attention to our league once again. Keep it up mate.
"And simply never find his footing" lol. Perfect timing after the clip of Dekker falling. I feel for Dekker. He went from being a college star to not having much opportunity for growth or playing time. I'm glad he found a great opportunity in the BBL :). So glad he was able to thrive and tap into his potential (and use the skills he developed over the years). It's a joy to hear about the impact he's had also. I didn't think about that, but you're right that the NBA can help further basketball development around the world. This reminds me of how the NFL had a minor league in Europe for about a decade and a half. While I don't think the NBA needs to set up a minor league in another country, I do like your idea of exporting players to other countries to help them develop and to help encourage basketball development overall. :) Your new mic is cool. Have a great day :). Take care.

Woah forgot about him since Wisconsin and Houston, glad he’s playing meaningful basketball and making a big impact. Props to him for putting his ego to the side and continuing his growth and journey
Ahhh you got me falling in love with the BBL mehn. I really agree with what you said about the NBA should be looking to export talent that doesn't quite fit right in the league, as opposed to just treating them like trash and throwing them to the curb. Great video again!
I fully agree there should be loan agreements for the NBA, it would be a way to have more NBA players develop while still maintaining talent under contract and it would get players a chance to compete more at a high level and potentially integrate fans across leagues. Like there is kind of that for drafting international players that are undercontract "draft and stash" where if you draft them and hold onto their rights but dont sign them you get a similar outcome with the option to sign later. But it would make sense in some situations where a good team still has a first round pick that they know they wouldnt be able to develop and the G league isnt right for them. a James Wiseman situation where he could have got a lot more quality minutes with high expectations on a Euro team instead of being dumped into the warriors gleague team that really had no real hopes of being competitive or a good environment to develop. plus if that didnt count against your 15 man roster at the time the warriors could have had another useful player in the rotation

The Lion had signed an interesting bevy of ex-NBAers in the defensive ace Miye Oni, competent veteran big Kostas Koufos and Sam Dekker. I'm glad he's getting his shine in London, nothing feels better than being where you're appreciated and successful.
Firstly, great video bro. I think a gamechanger for London would be a big name, imagine if they can somehow snatch up an NBA vet who doesn't get many minutes in the league anymore. Like imagine if somehow London is able to get Dwight Howard, even for 1 season.
Signing a big player or two is irrelevant if you're not good yourself. The UK needs to pay attention to the FIBA Champions League and actually do well in it. Do they even air those games on British television?
He was great when he was on the Wizards, i was really hoping they'd keep him on the roster at the time. He was an effective 'play the right way' guy and he did it with good energy. Wish the best of luck to the guy.

Very well done video keep up the good work, I watch a lot of youtube sports video's. Only here cause I grew up in Wisconsin and was at that 2015 championship game against Duke, still the best Wisconsin team in my life. Once in a while would check in to see where those guys where at (saw Dekker was in Russia, then turkey and london after his NBA stint). The Lions have bought their way to the top, spending more on individual players than the rest of the leagues rosters combined. Basketball in the BBL is very much community based. Kids and fans worship their own top players. Someone like Rahmon Fletcher, until he retired, would have waaay more impact. Aaryn Rai, Elvisi Dusha, Kipper Nichols, Trejon Jacob etc, are all guys that will inspire their young fans. Lastly, the NBA hasn't out sourced Dekker. The Lions have OVER paid for his services, and Matt Morgan is considerably better.
This was a really cool story and it's interesting to see a British perspective on basketball. I like the idea about the NBA sending talent abroad. Not sure how realistic it is but maybe have teams be affiliated like the G League. I'm not sure about it for a couple reasons, though. I'm not sure how much EuroLeague teams would be cool with being a "junior partner" to an NBA team. I wouldn't blame them if they were too proud for that. Also, that would mean teams would be looking at three different sources of talent in NCAA, the G League, and Europe. Although I guess they already kinda do that. Also thought the part about the NBA sending washed up players to Europe or China was funny bc it made me think, yeah, that's basically MLS here.
Who is Telekom Turkey? The club is called Turk Telekom. Also he was a FIBA Europe Cup champion in 2022 with Bahçeşehir. He didn’t help London qualify for the EuroCup. They have an agreement to participate in the competition.
Would you believe that the NBA coaches play favourites? That there’s nepotism involved in making an NBA roster? Sure the grind is real and work ethic is needed, but luck and legacy plays a huge role in staying power. Some names are not as influential as other, who says the boy from Sheboygan couldn’t have been a great role player if given the minutes to develop properly. Sam Dekkee is a great clutch shooter. He showed it time and time again in the NCAA and now in the BBL and Eurocup. He just needed to have a coach that believes in him. Great story about Sam, it’s a huge shame you had to include the part about him in Shaqtin a fool. I feel that Shaq does great disservice to his brotherhood in making a mockery out of them with these bloopers. Anyways, keep it coming. Hope to see more of BBL coverage.
I mean, any NBA player who was labeled a bust or just didn't pan out well in the league, is easily capable of being an MVP caliber player for another league. Once you got tht NBA experience, going against lesser talent in a less skilled league, your basically MJ/Kobe tier against these guys who have never even touched the nba level. Not surprised. Brian scalibrine proved this as well. Again, any NBA player, no matter how terrible, can and will be a superstar and or legend in a dofferent league, and would be tye undisputed goat of tht league wothout a doubt.
Great vid! Although I don’t think it’s that uncommon for guys drafted around the 18th mark to have very mediocre NBA careers. However, I get that you probably just said this for content lol
Reality basketball is hugely irrelevant in this country,I'm from Newcastle who have one of biggest and best teams but you see zero advertisement and it not really played in schools etc.

I feel that Shaq does great disservice to his brotherhood in making a mockery out of them with these bloopers. Anyways, keep it coming. Hope to see more of BBL coverage.
Does UK not have NBA televised
Amaechi, Archibald and a few others played in NBA and bbl
Good channel bro, if you tighten up the editing a little bit I could see you going off tbh
As some from Wisconsin, I am happy for Sam Dekker. He has essentially turned to the UK's version of Michael Jordan.
Solid story!
Such a good video
love this
Cheers buddy
He’s like the Jimmer Fredet of euro ball vs China league 👍
What a great story!
Great vid! Although I don’t think it’s that uncommon for guys drafted around the 18th mark to have very mediocre NBA careers. However, I get that you probably just said this for content lol
dope video king
underrated video!
We really need more players like this come by here it’s disgraceful how weak we are at basketball
Who would you like to see ?
It isn't disgraceful. Yall have your possible talent being pooled into football and cricket.
Reality basketball is hugely irrelevant in this country,I'm from Newcastle who have one of biggest and best teams but you see zero advertisement and it not really played in schools etc.
@@bigoofinthechat5496 there’s no 6’7 motherfuckers playing cricket
@@petesmart1983 the national league is largely irrelevant but basketball, the NBA is extremely popular
