How do you train locks in your style?

I went to a martial art school.
They taught me the last technique in which person grabs your colors and you have to turn the hand. I tried with the stronger guy and I failed. Then I asked them to clarify they couldn't.
Finally today I saw this video and understood the correct practical technique.
