Desperate and unable to face his parents with the news of another child, 21-year-old Sean Phillips took his partner Ariel Courtland and their infant daughter Kate to DHS for adoption, leading to a vicious argument. Ignoring Courtland's pleas, Phillips drove off with Kate still in the car seat, and later, in frustration, forcibly removed the seat, causing fatal injuries to Kate, whom he subsequently abandoned.

so let me get this straight; he went to throw the car seat after speeding off and didn’t realise the baby was in the car seat he was going to throw? doesn’t even make a lick of sense

Yeah, he wants me to believe that his brain wouldn't have automatically immediately detected the car seat was NOT empty as he handled it?? He had to grab the handle, pull on it, get the carseat out, pick it up, carry it a short ways, then lift it up and violently hurl it using all his strength...(Which would have been made more difficult & awkward if he was sitting the whole time as he claims, just using his arms).
I don't care if it only took a few seconds total *and* he was temporarily blind *and* deaf. Even if you covered my ears and eyes before ordering me to grab an empty carseat from your vehicle and throw it out the window, I'd still detect the baby just from the weight!..It wouldn't matter if this was the first time ever handling the carseat either; I'd still notice a baby was in it, the moment my arm & hand muscles registered how heavy & bulky it was. Not just the extra weight, but how that weight was distributed and being handled...especially as I lifted the whole carseat to throw it; I'd notice how the weight seems to be very detached and reacting to the movement differently!

Truth. I think he used the 'play dumb' technique with prior intent to use it as an excuse while still providing a way to get rid of the child, no matter how ignorant it sounds. The depths of darkness that humanity will sink into are mind-boggling at times.

That might be a real possibility. In many cases parole boards won't release prisoners if they maintain their innocence. A parole board could demand the location of the body and deny release if he doesn't give it up. Not that this monster should ever be released, but it's leverage.

A very sad thing happened to a baby here in Sweden last summer. Her father was supposed to drop her off at kindergarten before work but forgot and went straight to work. The baby was strapped in the baby seat and succumbed to a heatstroke having been forgotten by her father. He was sentenced but took his own life before he could be incarcerated. Guilt ended his life.
The man in this case doesn’t show any kind of emotion about what he’s done.

I mean, Roe v Wade was overturned, it's illegal in many states, IVF is now being looked at to be outlawed, as well as IUDs and other methods of birth control, like pills.
But, it was clear that the mother wanted this child, so it's not really the point. He didn't have to have anything to do with the child.
Correct, birth control, abstinence, and damn near every state allows babies to be given up at fire stations, hospitals, etc without consequence. So yes, plenty of options. However, in this instance, the mother wanted the baby. He didn't. So none of those options were available to him. He needed to man up and deal with it at that point. Although, based off what you were eluding to in your statement, if a woman can decide solely on her own to get an abortion, even against the fathers wishes, then shouldn't the man also have the ability to abort his responsibility from the baby? Meaning if the woman keeps it, he should then have the option to completely relinquish all responsibility and all without her consent. I don't think either options are good but we live in a time where people sleep around frequently and in many cases, so much so that women don't even know who the dad could be! So I am in favor of the abortion option but it should be limited to first trimester.

As someone who had multiple miscarriages and failed IUIs, he could've just dropped off the baby at any hospital or fire dept and someone like me could've adopted her. Instead, he thought the smartest idea was to take her life so he can go on with his. Won't feel bad at all if he's someone's bitch in prison.

Courts mandate visiting rights to a parent who has no interest in the child? I see this as a big problem. Many of these parental visitations end horrifically. I believe the rights of the child should superceed the rights of the parent.

The person is actually detained/arrested
They are not free to leave
And if there are no exigent circumstances.
For the 3rd, a great example is the Dallas rescue of a girl from a kidnapper/sex offender in his motel. Technically a renter has the expectation of privacy, but due to the exigent circumstances of a child in danger, they can bash the door down, arrest him, and still ask about her location/safety.
That also then applies here. Even if the street cop had fully arrested him, since it was a vulnerable child, he could ask even with no Miranda.

Exactly! I get that things happen (my mom got pregnant with me when she was on birth control & avoiding pregnancy for health reasons) but it seems like most people in this situation just expect it to not happen because they don't want it to! Like it's magic. 🙄
