I would like to sing an ode to the Nokia 3310. I carried one as my "source phone" (long story) on my second deployment to Iraq. That phone got dropped, dunked in shit canals, and even blown up on one occasion, and it never died. The worst that ever happened was i had to let it dry out a couple of times, after which it worked just fine. These were absolutely indestructible. I'm frankly surprised it didn't break the particle accelerator.

The foil will turn the beam into high energy photons as the beam slows. The plastic clay slows the beam less and generates fewer high energy photons, but gets activated by the beam.

    • @suokkos

It depends on your target. You should be DIY your own accelettor for a minor cost (talking less 100€/£/$). But if you want to do medical equipment (extreme precision) or cutting edge science (extreme energy and precision) costs are much higher.

Thanks for this funny video. Amazing people in Finland. I think I even saw a cucumber boson for a brief moment.
On a more serious note, regarding how that thing works: doesn't the accelerator operate in a relative vaccum? If so: isn't air sucked in at the outlet and doesn't this cause all sorts of crazy collisions between the emitted particles and the air molecules even before the particles exit the device?
