    The second floor jutting out and being larger than the first floor was actually a real architectural technique!
    It is called "Jettying", and had a couple of uses;
    The first floor was usually cold, with just a dirt floor, and was not great for living. So it was used as storage, while the second floor was the actual living space. (This is also seen on the blacksmith set, which is cool)
    The second floor was made larger because not only did this create more living space, but they could do so without taking away space for the roads in-between the houses!
    Just a fun fact that people often think is just a fantasy invention (:
    (Mind you this was not super widespread and was mostly a west Europe thing.)

      And it had one major drawback: in case of fire, the closeness of the floors made it easier to spread quickly through the cities... another drawback was that the streets were much darker because they received less lights.... that s one thing french people can thanks Haussman for, as he got rid of this in Paris...

    Such an outstanding creation! I especially love the use of dark brown as opposed to the more commonly seen reddish brown color! Adds so much more contrast to the white.

    Great build Ben! It’s awesome to get a behind the scenes look into a building style I rarely dabble in! The way you did the foundation of the house was really cool with the flex tube and clips! Using the yellowed bricks was a great touch as well

    Ben, if you're going to make a video like this, you need to upload the still images the same day! Like, right before the video goes live, make sure they're up.
    This is how more Castle MOCs should be. Detailed, but not overly so that it becomes too busy. The use of the yellowed pieces is really smart, and your consistent desaturated color pallet really works. I never noticed the light aqua pieces, but they start to look like bare stone, maybe with some liken growing, they don't look like they're part of the blue family of colors, and that's great. The sand green and olive also make it feel like it's a slightly marshy landscape, but after a bit of a cold snap where there's some frost on the ground.
    My one critique would be to have your vines growing on the building have an origin point on the ground. It just needs one spot where it crawled up over the stone base, or through those gaps, and then it can start growing on and in the walls popping in and out.
    You make a space fan appreciate a castle build.

      @@BenCossyOfficial Well, at least it did eventually happen within the same day. There was something that took like a whole week before, it was agonizing.

    Nice work! Maybe too much work, but an effective result makes it worth it. It must be my colour blindness, but I can't see the difference between the sand green and the light aqua. They look identical to me.

    Hey, random question - a while back I got some cargo pants, like, with a lot of pockets. Do you think those could work to use while MOCing? Like, for me it seems ridiculius, but like, actually, I think I'd want to try 😂
    Because, you know, you just wouldn't have to go around the room as much in the long run
    And my room isn't even all that big to easily be able to go around when all my boxes are out, but even then I first need to find how to place them so they all fit nicely around on the ground, the bed, the windowsill, table, chair, shelf, and now, pockets?! Hell yeah!

    • @drowned2204
      @drowned2204 5 місяців тому

      Well, I wouldn't put the entire boxes in pockets, but you get what I mean 😅
