Did you know that nearly 40% of homeowners in the United States use electricity to heat their homes? Even though most of our customers here in Central Ohio use natural gas, we have thousands of customers asking us about electric furnaces and how much they cost. In this video we’ve broken electric furnaces into three categories: entry-level, mid-range, and high-end. In each category we’ll go over a range of prices, some specific models, features and benefits, and see who might benefit most from that type of electric furnace.
By the end of the video, we hope you’ll know the typical costs associated with electric furnaces and air handlers and give you a better idea of which type is right for you.

You need a local contractor to perform a load calculation on your house before a unit could be recommended.

What unit would be best for San Diego County where no heat is needed at night and only needed from about 5:45 a.m. to 9 a.m.? Average temperatures are 69/45 in winter rarely freezing. We have had solar for 20 years and make 1300 KW extra a year. Would like it to be energy efficient, though. How big are the units? We have a gas heater in a "closet type area" now. Cement slab. One story. 1,600 sq. ft. We have some backup batteries but they don't do heater and A/C. Is the heat pump also A/C? Just starting to look to switch to electric as gas rates doubled last year. Thanks.

For your application a heat pump and air handler would probably be best. An electric furnace would be cheaper to buy, but more expensive to run. You would need to call a local contractor to do’s load calculation on your house to determine sizing and price.
