  • Soldering vertical seams can be frustrating and difficult. Here is a video describing the technique used on copper. This a lap seam, but locked and riveted seams will follow a similar procedure.

When i see a person soldering with out using rivets or some type of acme lock that tells me everything and i would not be allowing that individual to solder anything for me ..thats sloppy and is just asking for future problems ..this are the second video from this page ive seen and im not impressed....if your gonna show or teach an individual how to do something..then do it correctly..and on top of that you are in the shop not in the field so im confused on why it looks like junk....weve been doing this the same way for over 100 years so im confused how individuals still get it wrong...

Please can you give me some tips, I need to solder galvanized sheetmetal with this same method 18 gauge, we are doing vertical up on some roof penetrations and they demand solder and this method only, how can I get my puddle from just running down? Any tips would be appreciated,

This technique will work with copper, won't work with other metals especially stainless.
Your best bet is try not to do vertical joints, instead cut the upstand on a angle and then gravity will pull the solder into the joint.
