Sometimes it helps to take a new direction. Up until 2016, members of The Rose were creating music under the name Windfall, bringing an indie slant to their tunes, which had roots in street-corner busking. But when singer-guitarist Kim Woosung, keyboardist Park Dojoon, drummer Lee Hajoon, and bassist Lee Jaehyeong got with a new management company, a few tweaks were made and their pop success had a proper liftoff. 2017's "Sorry" and "Like We Used To" boasted a vocal-dominated soft-rock approach with heartfelt ballads and plenty of confidence. Critics and fans reacted, and a year later Billboard declared them a K-Pop breakout act with everything needed to craft a memorable career. In 2020 fans of The Rose found they'd been invited to open the Seoul date of Halsey's Manic World tour, but the pandemic squashed the gig. As Covid carried on, the group battled with management, and Dojoon went into the service. Cue disappointment. Now they're back in action, part of Far East Movement's Transparent Arts label, and happy with their impressive new album 'Heal.' We had them into the studio for a spin through "Definition of ugly is" and "Sour," the record's lead track. Check 'em out, and get a taste for what they might sound like on their Heal Together World Tour dates, which stretch through 2023.

For those who doesn't know, they use the story of ugly duckling as a reference to this song. We sometimes feel insecure with people because we thought we are different, we sometimes hurt ourselves trying to fit in. Just like ugly duckling, we are indeed different from the rest,but what we need to realize is we are ALL different. When you find your true self, you won't feel ugly anymore and you will appreciate your own beauty. The fact that they actually wrote this song based on a fans story, went, visited her, and sang the song for her. This song speaks to my soul. It's essentially about struggling with feeling like you need to be part of something. That you need to be into what everyone around you is into. But you, yourself, are unique. It's okay not to know what you want. Don't let anyone convince you otherwise.

I feel bad to those people who haven't found The Rose yet. They are missing a real deal in this era.
I just found them recently. I feel bad cause for a longtime I just hear the name and not try to looking it 😭

What made me love this group is because their music isn't just slapped haphazardly in order to get the millions of streams. They don't have crazy billions of followers, but it's solid music. I went to see them live last year, and I barely recorded...I was lost in their voices, instruments, and overall stage presence. Some people there were trying to have "Y/N" moments, but I couldn't...I was in awe of their talent. You can tell that they care about the message that they're singing and they love what they do. I hope to find a job that I'm so passionate about that people can't help but feel in awe because it's radiating through me. I love the Rose, and I hope they continue to make music. Of course I want them to grow in the fanbase, but tbh they're big stars in my eyes. Very talented and humble men. God bless you Jaehyeong, Dojoon, Woosung & Hajoon. :)

Seeing them live it’s crazy to see that their voices are SO ANGELIC, the main difference in seeing them live vs hearing them on Spotify is that you pick up more music notes on the instruments live and their performance/stage presence is amazing too. Their voice is literally perfect if you hear live or on Spotify though!
Sammy also does this cool spinny thing when he’s performing and it looks cool. It’s a bit unfair to other men that they can be this talented, kill the vocals, slay the instruments, have amazing stage performance and all four of them are visuals!?! 😂

I just heard this song in person for the first time two days ago. When it first came out I cried a lot but during their concert I was crying like hell. Istg their voices were so amazing and the vibe from the whole crowd and the guys made everything so perfect. The guys hit every note. I can’t really describe all I was feeling. This is the best concert I’ve ever been to and I’m so glad I got to experience it. I hope that those who want to see them get to because they are so amazing, so professional and it is totally worth it. It’s been two days since the concert and I already miss them so much🥲🥲🥲

I really don't know how I'm feeling these days. I feel like nothing I want is happening. And now it seems very difficult to strive for it. As I listened to this album, I really felt something broke inside me. Normally, I can't cry because I suppress my emotions too much, but as I listened to this album, my eyes filled with tears in all the songs. I really thank you for making this album. I feel like The Rose is my safe place. All their songs from Sorry mean a lot to me.
I believe that the most important message they wanted to convey through this album was to embrace those emotions, cry, let it all out. As they said, time will heal us. Today this song gave me a realization and made me cry. I am 24 and throughout my life I always felt like I should comfort people about their insecurities. And i did so. Because this is a part of my personality. When I value someone, I want that person to feel comfortable and confident. I always accepted them as they were. Relationships, friendships, family relations.. all were like this.
But today while listening to this song, I suddenly realized that nobody approached me the same way. I was always asked to change who I am. My personality, my appearance, or the things that I am interested in.. This is truly heartbreaking. I want to be accepted as I am. Why do I need to change myself according to the vision of me they created in their mind? Why do I always have to feel insecure about myself? Why do they make me feel like something is wrong with me?
