Anne Francis DOES have beautiful blue eyes... they are shown in glorious Technicolor in the classic scifi film Forbidden Planet, which should definitely be on your watch list. She also is featured in Funny Girl.
I met Anne Francis at an autograph show in the 1990s. She was very nice, answering my question I had about James Cagney and Lon Chaney Jr who she worked with on the movie "A Lion Is In The Streets". Her hair was all gray but I looked in those beautiful blue eyes and was totally smitten again.
I always liked the episode with Ed Wynn (Uncle Albert in "Mary Poppins") 'One for the Angels' which tends to get overlooked. There aren't big scare or action or sudden twists, just a lot of heart. The one with Robert Redford 'Nothing in the Dark' is somewhat similar, just a view on life and death. The great thing about 'After Hours' is we've got the wrong idea from the start. We automatically side with Marsha from the start and everyone else creeps us out when they were right all along and it was Marsha that was out of step. It keeps the viewer off-balance throughout which is brilliant. The "Doctor Who" show did a story on bringing mannequins to life too in 1971 'Terror of the Autons' starring Jon Pertwee as the Doctor. It's become an old trick, take something normal and familiar to people and turn it into something scary.
FINALLY! Someone is doing reactions to The Twilight Zone series! It is so much better when you watch the show late at night. It just brings out the best of the episodes. At one point, you should read up about the life of Rod Serling. Many of the episodes were dreams that he had when asleep. At one point, Serling had so many ideas for stories that he could not type them out fast enough! Can you imagine that?! Loved the reaction! Looking forward to the next Zone episode! 👁
Mia, This episode was written by Rod Serling. The 9th floor was a set that was being stripped out after being used in a movie. That they were able to make use of and save on costs. The effect's team cast face moulds of the principle actors. To heighten the tension the director used lots of shadows and kept the camera moving. Great use is made of Anne Francis's face and mannequin "eyes." to add to the tension. Also shop mannequins had " full" facial features in the 50'/60's. Cheers, Chris Perry.
"i am not a fan of dolls of any kind". Since we are living on the edge of all we fear this month, may I suggest "The Living Doll" episode #126 . Telly Savalas takes a trip into the Twilight to battle a doll gifted to his daughter which has a vocabulary that lets just say is "interesting". Should provide plenty of thrills and chills for you and the fans.
This is the very first episode of TZ I saw as a child and I loved it. I was hooked to the series and I'm so happy that you decided to react to this. I hope I'll be able to rediscover some episodes I completely forgot about. Thank you thank you, grazie mille dear Mia.
gold was set at the legal price of $35 per ounce in the US, that was changed to allow its price to be determined by market forces in the 70s after the US left the Gold Standard. Gold today is just over $1750 per ounce. That $25 today would be $1250 just based on the price of gold.
It looks like you'd have a pretty good collection of friends as a mannequin! I could see settling for that little corner of the Twilight Zone......could be a lot worse! "Time Enough At Last", for instance, or "To Serve Man"! :P As far as Anne Francis is concerned, I've got just two words: "Forbidden Planet"! Super dazzling, super groundbreaking, super great! PS: Loving these little 11-minute bon-bons!
This was one of my all time favorite Twilight Zone episodes. Love this one!!! There is one called "Time Enough At Last", with Burgess Meredith. That's in my top 5.
I remember going to a department store back when i was a kid , they were amazing places tons of stuff usually 3 or 4 floors and the staff were friendly and jumped to help you.
Not a fan of "dolls" either but I've always enjoyed this episode and also the Manquin Movie series. They are happy for each other going out to explore the world - such a good episode and a great review thanks :)
Watching both my favorite movie of all time and then my favorite Twilight Zone episode of all time back to back? I mean, if that's not a sign to subscribe, honestly I don't know what is. Subscribed!
I'm so enjoying you watching Twilight Zone. This is one of the creepier ones in my opinion. I really hope you get to some of my spooky favorites. The episodes The Hitch-hiker and the episode Twenty-Two. The Obsolete Man is my all-time fave but it's not spooky. I guess I won't fill out the recommendation form because I'm not sure if you're taking recs on TZ.
Seeing you react to The Twilight Zone is making me so happy! I had sort of forgotten what a significant part of my childhood this show was, but this is really bringing back the feels.
This was the first Twilight Zone I ever saw. I was very small, and my older brother was babysitting me. It was night time. This episode scared the heck out of me. Yikes.
They made the mannequins by making casts of the three actors, they made plaster heads and fixed them to mannequin bodies. The makeup artists who made them were MGMs main makeup team William Tuttle and Charles Schram who also worked on The Wizard of Oz
I mentioned this to Jan, my spouse. We both remembered this as we liked shopping in the downtown Seattle Nordstrom's. I still remember jumping at the mannequins when I realized they were real people. :)
I'm enjoying your Twilight Zone reactions a lot. The ones you've already done, "The After Hours" and "Perchance to Dream" are two of the strongest episodes in the entire series, so you're off to a spectacular start. There are many good ones to choose from. If I had to select eight more to round out a 'top ten' for you, my selection would be: - Eye of the beholder - A game of pool (with Johnathan Winters and Jack Klugman!) - Nick of Time (with William Shatner) - The Arrival - The Silence - The self-improvement of salvadore ross - Nervous man in a four dollar room - Will the real Martian please stand up Enjoy!
So happy that you are reviewing The Twilight Zone. There are so many good episodes but check out 'The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street', 'Time Enough At Last' and 'Walking Distance' as must-sees.
"Time Enough At Last" is definitely one of my all time favorites, and definitely of the Season 1 episodes (along with "The Loneliness" and "Mirror Image")
I love this episode -it's also referenced briefly in the opening part of Twilight Zone The Movie when two characters are talking about scary episodes of the TV show in a meta moment. As soon as you said, " I hate dolls they scare me.." I was was like - ohhh boy, this one will freak you out. I also love The Midnight Sun, Nothing in the Dark (with young handsome Robert Redford), Little Girl Lost (which Poltergeist fully ripped off), The Nick of Time (with William Shatner), The Invaders (with Agnes Moorehead), Obsolete Man, Night of the Meek(a great Christmas episode), and A Penny for Your Thoughts (with Dick York who played the husband in Bewitched)
I agree that things seem scarier in black & white. I love this episode. So glad you enjoyed it. I think my favorite TZ episode is Little Girl Lost. You should react to that.
Thanks to The After Hours, store mannequins freak me out too. Thanks to your reaction video, my Monday is that much brighter..even in The Twilight Zone.
On my list of must watches: "Time Enough at Last", "Monsters are Due on Maple Street", "Nothing in the Dark", "Mirror Image", "A Stop at Willoughby", "Walking Distance", "The Midnight Sun", "The Shelter", "The Invaders", " Masks", "To Serve Man", "Its a Good Life", "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet", "Eye of the Beholder", Living Doll" and "The Dummy".
You do such excellent work, not only presenting and adding background and clarification, but your technical and video editing skills are unmatched in this genre. I haven't many shekles to spare, but I will do what I can to free some up to support your channel. I look forward to following your development in this and future projects.
Oh these shows are the absolute best. So far I have literally watched everything you have reviewed. Love your take on things. Literally been binge watching!!
Please consider going back and watching the old but very important and brilliant film, Kind Hearts and Coronets. One of John Landis's favourite movies. It broke ground on its release, the USA Censors required scenes dropped and the ending changed from the original UK version. The magnificent Alec Guinness plays 8 different roles, Joan Greenwood is exceptional, he character ground breaking for the time and Denis Price's performance is exquisite.
"Express elevator" is a thing. It's exactly what it implies: Fast elevators designated for certain floors that have more occupants or require a quicker means of loading/unloading.
Wellp... The elevator operator in the episode was "actor" John Conwell. In the business for many years. Probably played a lot of uncredited acting roles... And mostly credited with production assistant duties like casting and other tasks.
JCPenny was about the last department store like this, but they were very common until the 90s. Then one by one they all were put out of business by Walmart, Kmart, and Target.
If you don't like mannequins, I highly recommend the Night Stalker episode "The Trevi Collection" 1973.🙀 The elevator man was John Conwell. Not an actor, IMDB lists his credits as (in charge of talent) or (assistant to the producer). He was mainly involved in TV throughout the 60's and 70's.
When I first watched the episode on Netflix, I was quick to notice that that girl was the same actress who played Altaira in Forbidden Planet, which I think you should react to some time later.
Does anyone else think about Mia being a mannequin herself? And that WE are the ones trapped here, watching this 2-D video?!! You know why Mia doesn't like dolls and mannequins - to throw us OFF THE TRACK!!
I went to see one of the STAR TREK movies and before it started I stopped at the concession stand for a candy bar and a soda. After paying I backed up, bumped into someone and said "Excuse me." It turned out I'd been polite to a life-sized cardboard standup figure of Mr. Spock. I was so embarrassed I crept away hoping nobody had noticed. LOL! I would suggest that you watch the TWILIGHT ZONE episode titled "The Lonely" starring Jack Warden, Jean Marsh and John Dehner. Also "A Hundred Yards Over the Rim" with Cliff Robertson. They're two of my favorite TZ episodes.
As mentioned, "Forbidden Planet" (1956) is a movie every SF fan should see. Other A-List productions from the 50s are "Journey to the Center of the Earth" (1959) and "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" (1954), both starring James Mason. Not as lavish in terms of budget but also a must-see is "The Day the Earth Stood Still" (1951) directed by Robert Wise (The Sound of Music).
There is a Twilight zone episode about a doll that seeks revenge on actor telly savalas of kojak fame considered one of the scariest Twilight zones I can't remember the name of the episode I think it's The Doll
The dark haired mannequin whose turn it was to go out was played by Elizabeth Allen, she's best known for the 1963 romantic comedy "Donovan's Reef," with John Wayne, Lee Marvin and Jack Warden...
This is actually one of my favorites. It has a family resemblance to a short story by a famous writer of fantasy and dark fables, John Collier. It's "Evening Primrose", which I haven't read in a long time. Anne Francis was a very, very pretty and talented actress, perhaps most famous for her role in "Forbidden Planet", which had a lot of practical and other influence on "Twilight Zone". She's also in a very wonderful movie (which I unfortunately don't like to watch) called "Bad Day at Black Rock".
The part of the elevator operator was played by John Conwell, most notable as a casting director and part-time 'fill-in' actor of the 1950's. But, in my opinion, he strongly resembles a young Bing Crosby.
The 'lost floor' of a large building is remarkably real. A large department store in Britain discovered it had a whole lost floor that hadn't changed since 1970, small eatery, kid's play area, racking, displays but no goods all left to gather dust. The doors had been simply covered with plywood and painted like the rest of the stairwell walls, signs removed... Without anyone willing to check, it had simply been forgotten in a down-sizing many decades ago.
I have always liked this episode. Mannequin have always creeped me out as well. You should watch the Twilight Zone episode called "It's a good life " starring Billy Mumy about the special little kid.
The star Anne Francis went in to star in Honey West, about a bad ass female private . It was a spin off from Burke's law. It lasted one series before being cancelled as it was a victim of the spy craze of the mid 1960's.
A top 5 episode for me if only because it stars Anne Francis, if you haven't seen her in "Forbidden Planet" what are you waiting for? She also had her own detective series "Honey West", her character's name. She was the first woman to star in a dramatic action-adventure TV show, she knew judo, engaged in fights and shoot-outs. She also had a pet ocelot, Bruce and a male partner Sam Bolt and Honey's mom pops up now and then. It only lasted 30 episodes, I have the 4 DVD set. They were 30-minute episodes so easy to watch and there was occasional humor in it.
I watched this episode years ago and I still remember it as one of my favorites. Too bad this series is not available on any streaming services here in Brazil =/
So many great episodes in this show.. and it still holds up 60 years later.. One of my faves from Season 1 is "THE BIG TALL WISH". Rod Sterling was brilliant, as a writer, performer, presenter, and as a human being. He was one of those guys no one had a bad thing to say about. Just an all around cool guy.
I'm throwing a wild guess out there but based on the few seconds I heard from him (the elevator guy), his voice sounds like Peter Graves from Mission Impossible and the pilot of Airplane. Although he doesn't look like him I find when people age their physical appearance changes while their voice remains the same.
I’m a fan of twilight zone. There’s a Twilight Zone radio (audio) version of this episode with Kim Fields in the Anne Frances role. It sounds more eerie than the original. By the way, twilight zone is from the 60s.
“I can’t do dolls that are alive” Oh there’s an episode of the 3rd show you’d hate 😂 Though how you’d feel about the twist and ending would be interesting
A great show about things not doing what they are supposed to be doing when we're not looking is the Doctor Who episodes "Blink" (2007) and Doctor Who "Spearhead from Space" (1970) & Terror of the Autons (1971) both with our deadly foes...mannequins
$25 in 1960 would have be about $250 now. Of course, the price of gold has gone up quite a lot more than that, so the thimble would probably be even more expensive.
Outstanding! I've never seen this one and it is deep. For anyone with a horror of mannequins, may I recommend 'The Girl with the Prefabricated Heart', 1947, (on UA-cam, with the original soundtrack)?
I'm so glad you chose to watch Twilight Zone. Some of the best writing and acting in television history.
Her hair was all gray but I looked in those beautiful blue eyes and was totally smitten again.
she did. she passed in 2011.
The actress who plays Phyllis on The Young and the Restless reminds me so much of her.
Also, the C-57D space ship and Robbie the Robot were used in several episodes of the Twilight Zone.
His Name Is John Conwell
"Five characters in search of an exit" is a classic episode
Dolls,.."You can't trust them!" ..LOL!!!!

'One For The Angels' is one of my favorite episodes. What it says about the value of a person's life is so touching.
We voted on Patreon and it made the list.
That's one of the best episodes!

OMG! The Living Doll episode is guaranteed to give anyone nightmares. One of the creepiest Twilight Zone stories ever.
Haha! I was just going to mention this episode. One of the all time classic Twilight Zones.
Or "The Dummy"?
Living Doll or The Dummy would be perfect!
Don't forget about "Caesar & Me" from season five! Ventriloquist and dummy again!
This is the very first episode of TZ I saw as a child and I loved it.
I was hooked to the series and I'm so happy that you decided to react to this. I hope I'll be able to rediscover some episodes I completely forgot about.
Thank you thank you, grazie mille dear Mia.
$25 in 1960 is about $225 today.
Some older buildings with private penthouses or executive offices on upper floors have express elevators.
gold was set at the legal price of $35 per ounce in the US, that was changed to allow its price to be determined by market forces in the 70s after the US left the Gold Standard.
Gold today is just over $1750 per ounce. That $25 today would be $1250 just based on the price of gold.
One of my top 10 favourite Twilight Zone episodes ❤ Your reaction was terrific!

Not a fan of "dolls" either but I've always enjoyed this episode and also the Manquin Movie series.

Me, a guy who collects clown dolls.
Watching both my favorite movie of all time and then my favorite Twilight Zone episode of all time back to back? I mean, if that's not a sign to subscribe, honestly I don't know what is. Subscribed!
“I don’t trust dolls. You don’t know what they’re doing when you turn your back.
Have you seen Toy Story?”
😂 LMAO
My favs: WALKING DISTANCE, A STOP AT WILLOUGHBY, KING NINE WILL NOT RETURN and A HUNDRED YARDS OVER THE RIM. :D
I'm so enjoying you watching Twilight Zone. This is one of the creepier ones in my opinion. I really hope you get to some of my spooky favorites. I like your intros on these. They mention this episode in Twilight Zone the Movie. Also, your psychic abilities are kind of creepy in a good way.

- The Arrival
- The Silence
- The self-improvement of salvadore ross
- Nervous man in a four dollar room
- Will the real Martian please stand up
Enjoy!

Thank you, hippychik 😊 I am so glad you enjoyed the video!
The elevator guy is meant to resemble Bing Crosby.

The first episode I ever saw,as a 4-year-old,and scarred for life!
Haven't seen this one in so many years. Loving the twilight zone reactions. It's great niche on your channel!
One the the scariest episodes is “Night Call”. When you watch it, have fun sleeping!!! 😳
It's exactly what it implies: Fast elevators designated for certain floors that have more occupants or require a quicker means of loading/unloading.
there still are express elevators - usually to special floors - like penthouses in apartment buildings
Okay, now time to watch LIVING DOLL! Music by Bernard Herrmann. ☺

Oooh, I remember that episode! Scared me as a kid!
This is one of my favorites
There is an unconfirmed rumour that Marsha (Ann Francis, the actress) was the basis for the original Barbie doll in the 50s....look at the resembance!
When I first watched the episode on Netflix, I was quick to notice that that girl was the same actress who played Altaira in Forbidden Planet, which I think you should react to some time later.
If I want to freak my sister out all I have to do is say, "Marcia...Marcia...Marcia..."
Does anyone else think about Mia being a mannequin herself? And that WE are the ones trapped here, watching this 2-D video?!! You know why Mia doesn't like dolls and mannequins - to throw us OFF THE TRACK!!
😳 oh no, I’ve been discovered!!
One never knows, do one?
Yes. Aren't AI enhanced images of people wonderful?!
Love these twilight zone reactions
I went to see one of the STAR TREK movies and before it started I stopped at the concession stand for a candy bar and a soda. After paying I backed up, bumped into someone and said "Excuse me." The AGNES MOOREHEAD episode is top notch, Great performance by Miss Moorehead.
Although from a rival series, The Outer Limits, the season 2 episode 5 called "Demon with a Glass Hand." is a great story. From October 17, 1964.
I still kind of tip toe nervously around mannequins to this day because of this episode 😂
As mentioned, "Forbidden Planet" (1956) is a movie every SF fan should see. Other A-List productions from the 50s are "Journey to the Center of the Earth" (1959)

Evening primrose eventually became a Sondheim musical, I think.
You always bring up something I never notice before
The part of the elevator operator was played by John Conwell, most notable as a casting director and part-time 'fill-in' actor of the 1950's. But, in my opinion, he strongly resembles a young Bing Crosby.

Elizabeth Allen was the sales clerk. A fantastic actress and singer.

Honey West made me a lifelong Anne Francis fan.
I was rewatching the whole series some months ago and this one is still one of my favorites.
I watched this episode years ago and I still remember it as one of my favorites. Too bad this series is not available on any streaming services here in Brazil =/
My all-time favorite episode!
I laughed when you said you were afraid of dolls because I knew what was coming.
This episode is the perfect mixture of comedy, terror and plot twist. I love it so much.
The all time creepiest old black and white movie is "Village of the Damed. " And a really creepy Twilight Zone is "Nick of Time."
Just an all around cool guy.
he was not a likeable personality according to some - but as long as he didn't commit vicious crimes - that isn't important
You ought to see 'Dead of Night' from the 40's, good vent act in it...
I'm throwing a wild guess out there but based on the few seconds I heard from him (the elevator guy), his voice sounds like Peter Graves from Mission Impossible and the pilot of Airplane. Although he doesn't look like him I find when people age their physical appearance changes while their voice remains the same.
not Peter Graves - not tall enough - not craggy enuf - just a working actor with a modest filmography
Always wanted those mannequins made to look like people. If they freak me out I don't mind. Love the Episode.
Another fun series of this type from roughly the same time period is One Step Beyond which tells paranormal stories based on true stories.
Anne Francis Did Such An Amazing Job During The Scenes Where She Begins To Panic
Yes, Yes, yes, this is easily one of the best most creepiest episodes. Up there with "Twenty Two".
Twilight Zone is enjoyable because they established a lot of the tropes and such that both Horror and especially Sci Fi would later use
There is another creepy mannequin episode of The Twilight Zone called "The New Exhibit". Please more Twilight Zone reactions. Cheers.
"I cant do dolls"
Until you said that I was going to recommend the TZ episode Living Doll.
I’m a fan of twilight zone. There’s a Twilight Zone radio (audio) version of this episode with Kim Fields in the Anne Frances role. It sounds more eerie than the original.
By the way, twilight zone is from the 60s.
If you're looking for "the scary door"/Twilight Zone episodes, "The Obsolete Man" is up there with "The Purple Testament."
The two female leads had masks done of themselves so their mannequin's faces would look more life like.
“I can’t do dolls that are alive” Oh there’s an episode of the 3rd show you’d hate 😂
Though how you’d feel about the twist and ending would be interesting
A great show about things not doing what they are supposed to be doing when we're not looking is the Doctor Who episodes "Blink" (2007) and Doctor Who "Spearhead from Space" (1970) & Terror of the Autons (1971) both with our deadly foes...mannequins
Thimble would be $230 today!!
Yeah, I looked it up after the fact! So $25 was equivalent to $230 today, that is wild!
I know her name is Marsha, but I couldn't stop thinking of "Marcia, Marcia, Marcia."
$25 in 1960 would have be about $250 now. Of course, the price of gold has gone up quite a lot more than that, so the thimble would probably be even more expensive.
The elevator operator looks like Bing Crosby, but it isn't, unless Bing Crosby was a mannequin too.
My Mom: Son, come watch this great show from my childhood with me.
My young self: Okay, momma!
My young self after: 😱
Love your intro
Thank you 😊
Anne Frances was the star of the show, "Honey West".
My favourite episode !
It would be cool if they did a sequel episode if the mannequins decided to rebel and all escape from the store, and some battle occured
I believe this was my first ep of the TZ way back when.
Outstanding! I've never seen this one and it is deep. For anyone with a horror of mannequins, may I recommend 'The Girl with the Prefabricated Heart', 1947, (on UA-cam, with the original soundtrack)?
PS - You figured it out! (i did too, hee hee :D )
Twenty-five dollars in 1959 was worth about two hundred and fifty today. I was curious so I looked it up.
The Monsters are Due on Maple Street is very very timely. 🤫😛
