    Everything that follows is 100% true!! My e250 work van started revealing some pretty major problems. I was tracking down each thing 1 by 1 with help from my main mechanic and after every fix, a new problem was revealed. To the point I was pretty much done throwing money into it.
    My neighbor, 5 houses down, who I had never met before this fateful day. Was taking his daughter to school. Somehow he passed out, I live right at the turn of the road. So if one decides to not turn and go straight they would run right into my driveway! I have a split level house where the driveway drops down a bit, but the yard is technically “raised” above the driveway the further down to the garage you go. Anyway, truck was back in to the garage. My wife’s broken down UnDriveable car was next to it. While he was only going 15-20mph, that raised yard meant he went in over the truck bumpers right into the engine. Which In turn pushed the truck into the other car which smashed into the concrete wall on the other side of my drive. Both cars were a total loss and I got around $15k for the 2 of them and bought a new truck!!
    I never get that “lucky”. But I had 2 worthless cars buy me a decent new work van for free. Was.. not.. upset about it.

    I’m very sorry for your loss. I am truly appreciative of you doing a Nissan engine. I’m a big Nissan fan all the way back to the Datsun 510 from 68-73

      I enjoyed this one too as a fellow Nissan tragic.
      They made some truly unique and amazing cars all the way from the Datsun days up till the late 90's.
      For me, the R32 GTR is the most iconic jdm car ever made, and the GU Patrol was the pinnacle of 4x4 platforms.
      Sadly they lost their way in the early 2000's.

    • @Angl0sax0nknight
      @Angl0sax0nknight 2 місяці тому

      Had 2 510s in my teens. (68’ 4 door and 71’ 2 door. Loved the 1.6l engines. But my favorite engine later in life was the Honda H22. Much more power and loved to rev.

    • @mgiblonski4318
      @mgiblonski4318 2 місяці тому

      @Angl0sax0nknight hard to beat Honda when it comes to normally aspirated performance engines. But I was very much taken in by the turbo jdm stuff.
      Growing up for me was all about SR20's, RB's, JZ's and 13B's.
      And unfortunately RB26's were a pipe dream then as they were almost as stupidly expensive as they are now.

    I have an old guy tip on using the wiggly in tight places: slide a short section of heater hose on the wiggly. It lets you get into places where you can't reach to get the socket on the nut. Also works for yard long extensions for flange nuts on exhaust manifolds. Us old guys are lazy.

      While I could see this doing a good number (as will CLR) on the rust and crap, still gotta wonder what it does to gaskets and seals. I guess if you're in that far, you're already going to change all the hoses, the water pump, and the radiator anyway.

    I can tell the valve cover has been off before. There is an upper timing chain guide that Nissan installed from the factory. The chain will rub against the upper guide and cause noise after the chain has worn or when the tensioner is not applying enough pressure. Nissan learned this, and they say not to use that upper guide, and so many people take them out. I had a Nissan ultima for a while and it had original valve cover gasket and chains were very noisy.

    I bought a 90 240sx about 20 years ago, I had read everywhere what a dog the KA24E was, underpowered, I found it pretty decent for such a light car. Reminded me of my old Mk2 Supras, good midrange. I know insurance premiums etc at the time and why Nissan did this, but I think Nissan still made a decent choice with that motor as an alternative to the Japanese motors that they couldn't put in for so many reasons. I think the DE made pretty decent power with a few bolt ons, but it was SR swap mania at the time.

    I can't help but laugh at the fact that I got two Nissan commercials during the video, the second one being immediately after Eric got the last piston out LMAO

    One of my best friends has a 240SX that is still KA24DE, but it is decently built and turbo'd. It did a hair over 400hp at the wheels. It is very... not slow.
    My condolences for the loss of your goodest pup.

    Theraputic video I'll bet, Eric.
    Perhaps a short video of houndog memories to remember all of those joyous moments?
    I know, the comments, just don't allow comments.😉
    I've lost several dogs over the years and understand that blasted ache.
    You and your family hang in there.🤙

    Here's a tip that could worked to remove the stuck pistons, hammer it with a hammer drill, using an sds hammer head bit. The vibration could loose the rust.

    Although the head on the KA24DE is more economy focused compared to that of the SR20DE/VE or CA18DE. I still think the KA24 has a lot of potential to do great.

    I just clicked on this… I have to tear down a KA that lost oil pressure so probably nothing on it is good but the only one I could find was $2000 and it had back compression. So after Arizona cools off a little bit, I’ll pull the motor out and probably will be left with just a block if I’m lucky.

    Eric, my condolences on your loss! We tend to take for granted our pets will be with us forever.
    I lost a boxer pup at 10 months old, my second boxer lived until he was 14 and had a massive brain haemorage, and to top that my 53 y/o wife passed unexpectedly with no apparent cause of death, and then finally someone smashed into my truck at high speed and destroyed the bed and bent the frame enough to write it off
