If one thing being in the USCG has taught me, its how to be prepared, and you hit the nail on the head. Staying warm, dry, and mobile is so important. One thing to add, your base layer (wicking layer) you can get wicking socks as well and it makes a hell of a difference. Great video man.
One thing that caught me by surprise when I first started fishing through the winter here in Mid Tn was the cost of staying warm and dry , after all is said and done you might be wearing $800 or more worth of material to be able to fish comfortably lol
It’s all about air flow. You want to be able to wick moisture while maintaining heat. Look up ECWS layering systems and you will be aight. Dont have to spend a ton of money either. Also, you do want air flow in your feet. If you trap the moisture it will condensate and in turn keep your feet cold.
Great point. I missed that point. Usually when your boot is well fit, even with extra sock material I can still move my toes, however having boots that are too tight are also an issue so there’s definitely a good happy medium. Thanks for the feedback!
Only cost about 1500 bucks to layer up with Simms. Prolly need throw them some dickie and Magellan options. Good content, not a whole lot of talk about it.
Yes, Simms is certainly pricey, and obviously me working with them my link selection is primarily filled with their options as that’s what I’m familiar with, however I hope the advice on what material to use can help people make choices based on availability and budget. There’s a lot of great low cost options out there for both wool and synthetics.
@@SonarFishing Yea for sure. Just making a joke. I wear Simms, Magellan, Aftco. Anything to keep you warm in the winter season. Good luck the upcoming season.

Good tip! Thank you for the feedback man!

You’re not kidding! It is crazy expensive!

I looked up the ECWS and I learned a lot, so thank you for telling me about it!
The vest was a good call I haven’t been thinking of. Awesome video!!
It is a game changer! Once I figured it out it changed my cold weather layering game
Fleece is my friend in cold weather. Fleece pants are worth every penny. I’ve used a fleece neck gaiter on windy days, it helps tremendously.
Gotta love fleece!
KEY FOR YOUR FEET. MAKE SURE THAT YOU CAN MOVE YOUR TOES. If you wear too thick of a sock or socks and can’t move your toes, your feet will be colder.

Thanks, good info
Glad it was helpful!
One good thing to add is a lumbar heating wrap under your mid layer and one heating wrap on each wrist. But some good tips!!
Ill have to try that! Thanks
Dude. Low of 37 in Tampa tonight. I’m going to freeze my keister off tomorrow.
It’s 9 here lol! Can’t wait to get to Florida next week!
Great info. Going to order some Simms
You won’t regret buying Simms in my experience. They hit the mark more often than not.
I don't fish under 40 jus can't stand it
I don’t love it either, but force myself to get out. lol
Cold as heck in Soddy, as ya know. Sounds like a babbling brook in the background
Naw, just ice falling off the roof and my neighbor moving some stuff.
Nothing colder than an open boat in the wind
That’s the truth!
