I LOVE mine...The Czar. Love it!! I especially love that they released one that came in a fake leather with premium book block so I could get it rebound without wasting money on the original binding.
I've got one Zondervan premier bible I bought 6 months ago and I was wondering if you've noticed the black goatskin seems to be darker, or richer, on the newer premium bibles? I'm waiting for the NASB premier preacher's bible from Zondervan to come in but this one seems darker goatskin you're reviewing. Just wondering.
I do want to check this edition out… However: Verse numbers in red would have been horrible. The gutter text is a legit gripe; there is no reason for allowing that - never, never force a reader to pull a book open wider to read text too close to the binding. Very bad. Can we stop abbreviating epistle titles, and fully write them out? The Second Epistle of Paul the Apostle to the Thessalonians… Big bold red titles (like “1 Peter”) do not do justice to these writings.
For me I had a hard time with the text being close together. My eyes are just not the best. I have a lazy eye and I had a hard time reading with it being close together but i really liked the print size 🙂
II'm impressed, you handle this Bible like it's a feather :) I have the NASB SCR brown version and love it. It's one heavy block too! It mates up nicely with my Cambridge blue turquoise KJV in size. Zondervan hit a 8 of 10 for me. The reduction of references is mystifying and disappointing to me as the size of the pages can easily accomodate a more robust listing of references. The numbering color struck me as well. But, this BIble is definitely a worthy entry into the world of premium Bibles. For a reading session, this Bible works great. For delving deeper into passages via the references, I fall back on my favorite Cambridge Single Column Reference edition NAS. Portable and easy to read, with reader glasses for me :) The comfort print really works.
I've be waiting for your review... the many "small" issues that you cited add up to a bible that doesn't deserve the title "The Czar" Just saying... Thanks for a great review
Yeah, the "Czar" nickname is more of an onomatopoeia when running "Zondervan" and "SCR" together, rather than an implication that it is a ruler or superior. I agree that the shortcomings can push potential buyers away but I hope Zondervan takes note and makes a few changes when the next generation of the SCR is produced, or the Czar 2.0 if you will.
Yes you're absolutely right... this Bible is soooo beautiful..😊

Yes, that is really cool of Zondervan to not skimp on the quality of the block for their "non-premium" editions.

Wish the “ Judge” Lockman “ “ In touch” Charles Stanley designed Bible was available.
How does it compare to steadfast NASB - handy size?
