Great recap and review. Tons of thoughts on this season but one main takeaway for me is that they run the risk of ruining Beth who had/still has the potential to be a top tier character. She now just flies off the handle all the time. It's obvious that it is because of her trauma which they were exploring before so you could empathize with her, but they don't explore it very much anymore. We only see the side effects through her being at a 11/10 most of the time and saying shitty things to office assistants and random workers for cheap gags..

Jamie is the ol actor who that can't hold his own on the show. The way he begs for forgiveness in his office was just poorly acted out. And I agree with 90% of what you're saying there's some big plot holes from a writing standpoint because they're merging the 4/6 spin-off and the 1883 spin-off with the show so they're kind of hurrying things along but I just never really felt like Jamie's character was fleshed out enough to explain his fear. I mean I guess with the idol worship everybody has of the father and the father flat out telling him you're my greatest mistake and failure but I still love you I guess that put anybody in a shaky position but that office begging scene was just pathetically acted out. Anyways love the commentary love the channel.
I hope Jamie's character is going to change for the better. I have watched him in other roles and was glad to see him on Yellowstone. Great actor. The choice to make his character weak and pathetic is very disappointing. Beth's and Jamie's backstory can always be altered.
Wes Bentley is a fantastic actor and he does hold his own! . You confuse acting with writing . The problem was the writing. Just totally unbelievable that Jamie suddenly becomes so weak and doesn’t call the police immediately and have Beth arrested for threatening him as AG. Stupid senecio, not bad acting
@Mara Hanson I agree. Between the writers and directors, they do not have a sense of purpose for Jamie's character. All dramas I have watched have these characters in them. I was young when Dallas was on but I remember there were characters in that series that did nothing to move the plot forward. I also agree with your comment about him being a Harvard-educated lawyer. I do not know any but assume that they would not put up with the crap that goes on in this show and would move elsewhere for their career and this life behind.

Great job. I like getting your take on every episode. You explain it all perfectly so we all understand. Sometimes the show leaves you wondering what was said or what was done but you always tell us by referencing something that happens later or happened seasons ago what was said or done. I can't wait for the 5th season. I hope Kasey stays with Monica and figures out a way to go down both paths. I hope Beth fucks Caroline and her company hard-core. I hope Jaime becomes a powerful allie even if he runs against his dad for governor. He killed his dad but his wife is going to want him to run still or she's gonna leave again. Personally if I were Jaime I'd cut her loose anyway. If your wife or gf doesn't like your family or want you to have anything to do with them then she's NOT the woman for you. Family is everything. Finally, I hope Rip keeps kicking ass and takes over as head of the ranch so John can retire and just enjoy his time left.

I also have to say those Horse guys are amazing! Every time we see them during the season I could hardly believe anyone could do that with a horse. I've seen a few rodeos, I've seen the Lipizzanner Stallions, but never seen Horse Masters like that.

Superb summary of marvelous dynasty. BUT SUFFERING IS UNAVOIDABLY SAD FROM PREBIRTH TO DEATH with generations of earned afterlife hoped by some for the next unborn dna and adopted following generations. CMcC.
There should have been attention given to development of Jamie’s character arc instead of Jimmy. What or who is Jimmy in the scheme of things. Whereas Jamie’s & Beth’s story are so intertwined. As a sibling the writers should have paid Jamie more respect. . Instead what we have is an unexplained coward unable to stand up for himself. Too much remains unexplained with Garret and John’s history, which would have been a perfect finale for that reveal. This season was all over the place, Beth has become a caricature, the barrel bunnies add no value and too much cross promotion off 6666 & 1823 compromised Yellowstone.
I agree that they should have developed Jamie's character more, but honestly I feel like I can say that essentially about all of the main characters for this season. Feel like the season stalled out in the middle where they should have been cultivating the main characters and not stretching so far outside of the main stories going on. They wasted time on the Lloyd and Walker shit, the essentially pointless Summer Higgins stuff and the time crow barring in "isn't the west just great" stuff haha. I think they could have spent so much more time on Garrett, they honestly wasted his time on the show. They made him the mastermind of the plot to kill the Duttons but then....not much at all. I will say I didn't mind the Jimmy stuff, the story is simple but still not bad. Nice to see a kid that came from absolutely nothing work hard and create a better life after almost dying. But they absolutely love the Paramount + specials, I think splicing all of that footage into a 30 minute or 1 hour special would have done it more justice..

The character Beth is an injured animal, often being dangerously impulsive and reckless. She is also a hurt child and has to fight her way out of that feeling in order to show any softer feelings or empathy, which is a very rare occurrence, which doesn't happen when she confronts Carter regarding being a mother figure to him. Damn - makes good entertainment though!

Kevin Costner has made just one bad movie. Who knows why Waterworld was filmed and worse it was marketed. Yellowstone is second only to Dances with Wolves. Both of those efforts have made this old man wish he had been born 100 years ago!
A disappointing season with many storylines crammed in a ten episode season , I liked certain characters John, Beth , Jamie and Rip but Rip , Jesse and Kacey have been short changed. I hope correct this in the next season

Thank you for your work. I'd rather listen to your summaries than watch the show. I find the show over acted, filled with too much bad language, and over wrought plot lines. Like a version of the old nighttime soaps like Dallas and Dynasty.
Just finished watching this show and I have to say: I don't understand why people like John, Beth or Rip. John is a shitty father that thinks he can control everyone and everything, and won't let his kids have their own life. Rip is a psychotic murderer and Beth, Beth is worst of all. She refuses to accept responsibility for her own behavior and whoring around as a child and blames everything on Jamie. Jamie was just as young, and just as scared as Beth, yes, it was wrong of him, but he was just trying to help his sister the best way he thought. Beth is complete and utter trash. Kacey is the only decent person in the show.
Who is paying the so-called militia now the Beck brothers have gone to the train station Jimmy graduated from cowboy college wish he had gone to the train station, when is Caroline going to the train station?
s4 was crap. the writing is horrible and its just a combination of montages. nothing really happened, whilst it started with a huge gun battle, its lost the grit and hardness of the previous seasons... its just kind of lost...
I never watched the show. I enjoyed the "Cliff Notes and watched your seasons 1 thru 4. However, this is the reason I quit watching TV when it went from analogue to digital. Thanks but I have better things to do with my time. To each his or her own.

Jamie is the ol actor who that can't hold his own on the show. The way he begs for forgiveness in his office was just poorly acted out. And I agree with 90% of what you're saying there's some big plot holes from a writing standpoint because they're merging the 4/6 spin-off and the 1883 spin-off with the show so they're kind of hurrying things along but I just never really felt like Jamie's character was fleshed out enough to explain his fear. I mean I guess with the idol worship everybody has of the father and the father flat out telling him you're my greatest mistake and failure but I still love you I guess that put anybody in a shaky position but that office begging scene was just pathetically acted out.

I hope Jamie's character is going to change for the better. I have watched him in other roles and was glad to see him on Yellowstone. Great actor. The choice to make his character weak and pathetic is very disappointing. Beth's and Jamie's backstory can always be altered.
Wes Bentley is a fantastic actor and he does hold his own! . You confuse acting with writing . The problem was the writing. Just totally unbelievable that Jamie suddenly becomes so weak and doesn’t call the police immediately and have Beth arrested for threatening him as AG. Stupid senecio, not bad acting
@Mara Hanson I agree. Between the writers and directors, they do not have a sense of purpose for Jamie's character. All dramas I have watched have these characters in them. I was young when Dallas was on but I remember there were characters in that series that did nothing to move the plot forward. I also agree with your comment about him being a Harvard-educated lawyer. I do not know any but assume that they would not put up with the crap that goes on in this show and would move elsewhere for their career and this life behind.

Great job. I like getting your take on every episode. You explain it all perfectly so we all understand. Sometimes the show leaves you wondering what was said or what was done but you always tell us by referencing something that happens later or happened seasons ago what was said or done. I can't wait for the 5th season. I hope Kasey stays with Monica and figures out a way to go down both paths. I hope Beth fucks Caroline and her company hard-core. I hope Jaime becomes a powerful allie even if he runs against his dad for governor. He killed his dad but his wife is going to want him to run still or she's gonna leave again. Personally if I were Jaime I'd cut her loose anyway. If your wife or gf doesn't like your family or want you to have anything to do with them then she's NOT the woman for you. Family is everything. Finally, I hope Rip keeps kicking ass and takes over as head of the ranch so John can retire and just enjoy his time left.

I also have to say those Horse guys are amazing! Every time we see them during the season I could hardly believe anyone could do that with a horse. I've seen a few rodeos, I've seen the Lipizzanner Stallions, but never seen Horse Masters like that.

Superb summary of marvelous dynasty. BUT SUFFERING IS UNAVOIDABLY SAD FROM PREBIRTH TO DEATH with generations of earned afterlife hoped by some for the next unborn dna and adopted following generations. CMcC.
There should have been attention given to development of Jamie’s character arc instead of Jimmy. What or who is Jimmy in the scheme of things. Whereas Jamie’s & Beth’s story are so intertwined. As a sibling the writers should have paid Jamie more respect. . Instead what we have is an unexplained coward unable to stand up for himself. Too much remains unexplained with Garret and John’s history, which would have been a perfect finale for that reveal.
This season was all over the place, Beth has become a caricature, the barrel bunnies add no value and too much cross promotion off 6666 & 1823 compromised Yellowstone.
I agree that they should have developed Jamie's character more, but honestly I feel like I can say that essentially about all of the main characters for this season. Feel like the season stalled out in the middle where they should have been cultivating the main characters and not stretching so far outside of the main stories going on. They wasted time on the Lloyd and Walker shit, the essentially pointless Summer Higgins stuff and the time crow barring in "isn't the west just great" stuff haha. I think they could have spent so much more time on Garrett, they honestly wasted his time on the show. They made him the mastermind of the plot to kill the Duttons but then....not much at all.
I will say I didn't mind the Jimmy stuff, the story is simple but still not bad. Nice to see a kid that came from absolutely nothing work hard and create a better life after almost dying. But they absolutely love the Paramount + specials, I think splicing all of that footage into a 30 minute or 1 hour special would have done it more justice..

She is also a hurt child and has to fight her way out of that feeling in order to show any softer feelings or empathy, which is a very rare occurrence, which doesn't happen when she confronts Carter regarding being a mother figure to him. Damn - makes good entertainment though!

Kevin Costner has made just one bad movie. Who knows why Waterworld was filmed and worse it was marketed. Yellowstone is second only to Dances with Wolves. Both of those efforts have made this old man wish he had been born 100 years ago!

Thank you for your work. I'd rather listen to your summaries than watch the show. I find the show over acted, filled with too much bad language, and over wrought plot lines.
Like a version of the old nighttime soaps like Dallas and Dynasty.
Just finished watching this show and I have to say: I don't understand why people like John, Beth or Rip. John is a shitty father that thinks he can control everyone and everything, and won't let his kids have their own life. Rip is a psychotic murderer and Beth, Beth is worst of all. She refuses to accept responsibility for her own behavior and whoring around as a child and blames everything on Jamie. Jamie was just as young, and just as scared as Beth, yes, it was wrong of him, but he was just trying to help his sister the best way he thought. Beth is complete and utter trash. Kacey is the only decent person in the show.
