That's why those older Peugeots had such a very nice balance between handling, grip and ride comfort. Peugeot was also one of the first brands to use the Michelin TRX tires on the 505turbo and the 604sti/gti. - the engine block in the 505 Turbo is actually NOT a Peugeot engine but a Chrysler design! And it had a bad reputation for blowing head gaskets. But it was just as fast as a euro spec bmw e28 528i. The NA Sti engine IS a proper Peugeot design (with hemi head!)
My parents had a 84 505 s Turbo Diesel. The speedo only went to 90mph. I would drive that thing to the top of the speedo on I5 in California and just roll. It was a beast once it got going. I had many firsts in that car. ;)....
I had a 1986 STI and an 85 Turbo. Wonderful cars... beautiful styling, so comfortable and superb handling. They were very expensive when new...around $30,000 in Canada. They are classics and should be preserved, not trashed. Although I do admit your convertible chop job looks pretty good.
On my old VW golf I had back in high school, I could flip the rear windshield washer squirter around and it would shoot like 20' backwards, just in case some ass hat was riding my tail too much.

french man here, i have to admit our cars are not the most reliable indeed, not as bad as italians or english cars of course but we do have a few "merguez" (it's how you call a shitty car in french) but our cars handle the best, the take corners the best and they are the most fun to ride hands down when you see an old clio you can clearly see what is important to us : the interior is made of plastick and cardboard with carpet on it, and the car looks meh but it has a kick ass engine, very reliable, very powerfull, the car handles perfect and is very light too if you are loocking to get into car racing, the best option for a cheap first car is a french car because you are pretty much gong to drive it like it was intended to be driven. it's simple : most comfortable and reliable : german most beautiful and passionate : italian most fun to drive and best bang for your buck : french cars and sorry but everyone in europe thinks american cars are the worst lol mostly because in europe we drive, we don't do drag races

Other than that they aren't bad at all. i drive the latest clio at work it's a small engine with a big turbo, it flies through traffic and roundabouts like a demon and it never had an issue although i drive it long distances all the time the 208 is also a killer, my colleague has one and i can't keep up with it it has tremendous grip in corners
I had an 81 505 Turbo Diesel. It was 85hp but in the winter it was perfect. I would look out the side windows as much as I looked out the windshield I drifted it so much. It was a drift missile in New England winters and I was an avid snowboarder plus it got 40 mpg and diesel was $1 a gallon in 1993. Such a good car.
Peugeot actually made a 2dr prototype 505 cabriolet. Also a 2dr coupe/hardtop. Beautiful cars that never made it into production. I think you can see them in the Peugeot museum in Mulhouse, France
I think that PSA make really good cars. I have had 3 cars, and a van. I am in Britain, where we build Peugeot, Citroën and Vauxhall, the 3 makes in PSA. I find them reliable, parts are cheap and every garage knows how to work on them, so the perfect vehicle. This means that I will choose one of the 2 French makes of car, that PSA make, since they make almost indestructible diesel engines.

I did something similar on a '93 Corolla, my first car, that wouldnt fit the next inspection. So i decided to kill it, rerouted the windscreen and lights washer hoses to the front wheels, filled the tank with some old used engine oil, and did sick burnouts with oil on the tires. When the tires were good and slick, covered in oil (brakes and everything was covered in the stuff) I then started driving around that night and completely smashed the shit out of it. Great fun night

Sold it like five years ago and still regret it

Actually,the 2.2 N9T in 505 Turbo was originally a Talbot- Simca engine....no relationship to GM period. Porsche did the engineering to turn it into the Turbo version. The N9T is also completely unrelated to the Renault belt driven 2.2 that became the Base gas engine in all US spec 505s in 1988.
