  • This version of "Meet the Mets" was used on closing the broadcasts, as well as television commercials, from 1974-1979. You can find the choral version on my page as well!

I remember this song all too well. I associate it with the Dark Ages of the NYM. I recall an Easter Sunday Doubke Header at Shea in 1974 when the Mets got swept by the Phillies. This song was playing with the closing credits as I sat there as a nine year old realizing it was going to be a long year.

Variation was used to intro the TV broadcasts and Kiner's Korner. Can't you just hear: "Good afternoon from Shea Stadium, today's game against Cincinnati is brought to you by Rheingold Beer - "My beer is Rheingold the dry beer" and your New York, New Jersey and Fairfield County Chrysler Plymouth dealers - "Chrysler Plymouth Coming through" I'm Lindsey Nelson along with Bob Murphy and Ralph Kiner. It's a beautiful day here at Shea...."

I remember this around 1980 when we got WOR on cable in LA and we'd watch the Mets play the Dodgers.

Love hearing this. Takes me back to '79... Mazz, Youngblood, Swannie, Frank Tavares, John Stearns and a couple of rookie pitchers: Neil Allen and Jesse Orosco.

As good as this is to hear, it was an era of mediocre teams or worse.
    Actually debuted in '74.

Been looking for this for years ! I could hear it in my head from my childhood, especially the cheesy porn movie wah wah guitar. No one seemed to remember this when I'd talk about it. Thanks for proving I'm not totally nuts !

Thank you for checking it out! Yes the person who had created it transcaribed it from a vinyl album. I had been trying to get the name/creator of that album, but not yet. Check out the version with vocals as well, on my channel
