That's the complete opposite of what happened. Valeria didn't turn against Perseus; Perseus was KIA by Fortress Garrison, so Valeria defected against the Nusians in order to avenge Perseus' death
Perseus was a dominian that had a dominian family that gave him minimal care, only bothering enough to name him. The parents then die to loansharks due to excessive debt on gambling. Perseus is then adopted by an abusive nusian family (with only his adoptive sister caring for him). This turned Perseus into the racist dominian we know. However, this shifted when he met a little nusian girl named Valeria, who lost her father in the invasion. He cared for her for a short while before being deployed again.
