I think the kaleidoscope dlc was meant to symbolize, like… You blocked out the events in your head as a trauma response, and grew mature also as a trauma response to now tattletail was boring to you and you had no more childlike wonder? And the endings are basically sacrifice your childlike wonder to keep the memories hidden or uncover your memories so you can move on? At least that was my takeaway.

The part where she reads the story with music always reminds me of how creepy I found the narration in those "play-a-sound" books when i was younger. Everything down to the eerie music, the uncomfortable inflections and the commanding "TURN THE PAGE" made that part feel like it was ripped out of my childhood, even if the 90s are definitely before my time. Definitely the most effective "horror" in the game to me.
The Kaleidoscope Expansion really spooked me as a young teenage egg whose memories were quickly tarnishing as I realized I wasn't happy how I was. The themes of the corruption of memories you once held sacred, and once mundane memories becoming scary, really resonated with me and still stick in my head today.

I got exceptionally lucky finding that product by a seller who was selling other prototype phatmojo plushies (mostly batim plushies). I have no idea if there was any other plans for merch beyond the plushies so that’s information that I have no idea about.

24:41 You do not know how happy it made me when she told me that. Like, I legit almost screamed. There's literally so much they can do with the concept of a Tattletail TV show, even like an "in universe" show that has some spooky themes, but is otherwise wholesome! But whatever they decide to go with, i just know it'll be great because Geneva helped work on great cartoons before. She even made that one animated short "Trick Moon" and we all know how great that was! Also, i don't necessarily think that it was simply that Tattletail was haunted as she said in the other post, but thats just the run down of how other people see it, so she put it like that XD
I will say this. The decline of Tattletail led to one of my favorite games of the last few years alongside Cult Of The Lamb and Inscryption, Neon White, as well as a great soundtrack by Machine Girl. As much as I would not mind a Tattletail sequel, I can't complain with the end results.
I actually remember the fuck outta this game, goodtimes man, keep up the good work gomo, literally saving me from depression atm. Not even lying, love you and your content
FINALLY A GOMO PLU-Oh Gomotion already did that hahaha I'm not late for once.. Right? But also I'm happy to see someone actively talk about Tattletail and not just saying that the game died because game boring or lack of content as our favorite noodle-limbed blonde black eyed protagonist talks about the actual downfall of the game and gives us an actually entertaining video that delves into the background of the game and the actual content of the game in an absolutely hilarious way that makes me wanna focus on it with my deep fried desaturated smooth brain. ALSO GO BUY THE PLUSH OR YOU'LL DEVOLOP A FEAR OF.... Noodle limbed characters talking about random things in horror. Oh no.
Given the amount of polish and capital that went into making Neon White authentically a pastiche of 90s anime tropes (up to the point of hiring union voice actors who themselves are popular because of 90s anime) I wouldn't be surprised in the least if the main reason Tattletail is basically abandoned is the fact that they had the choice to either leverage its initial success to start working on Donut County/Neon White, or become The Dev Who Keeps Tattletail Alive. Your end game as a mascot horror developer is either jumping to your next unrelated project or going public and keeping shareholders happy by churning out merch and cranking out sequels. They were not of a size to be able to handle content creation for two games. Hell, the expansion it did get is explicitly built around a concept that means they didn't have to apply many new textures to things. The filter does most of the work and then the new geometry gets simplistic textures.
I have a lot of respect for the devs for knowing when to stop. A lot of games (especially mascot horror) have the issue of continuing to go on longer and longer until it starts to grow into some kind of tumor. Fnaf 6 had the perfect ending for the series... but then they made it continue and it pretty much destroyed anything the rest of the series had. Having TattleTail be a one and done expereince allows it to be this small experience that you'll remember for a long time. Also, it gives the devs freedom to work on other projects like the already mentioned Neon White. Side note, GO PLAY NEON WHITE IT'S RAD AS HELL
to me, it feels like the kaleidoscope wasn't intended to be the last thing created for tattletail, but, for whatever reason, more content never came to fruition. that'd be a reason why it's so weird and small feeling
Mayhaps the creator simply felt like what they did was enough and wanted to move on with something else. That or they just got lazy and didn't want to do more.
Fun Fact for those who don't know already: The devs behind Tattletail are the same devs behind the recent card-based speed platforming shoot 'em up indie game Neon White. But if ya watched the intro ya would have already learned that. Please play Neon White it is amazing please
Tattletail is easily one of my favorites when it comes to indie horror, especially from that time frame. It's simple, it's effective, and they didn't milk it with game after game after merch after movie (as far as i remember).
Tattletail is my favorite mascot horror game, even though I never played it. Everyone kinda sees it in good light now from what I've seen. The game never tried to go too ambitious, and it thrived with that.
God. This brings back memories. I remember when horror games would just... Come out. Nowadays horror games are usually given a lot more epic and take more time. Which I'm not saying is a bad thing but man the good times Limbo, Eyes The Horror Game, Pizza Delivery, Missing, Dread of the Blood Moon, Kuro Oni, Slendytubbies, Pesadelo, Baby Blues, Among The Sleep, The Very Organized Theif I know, this was random, but just the talk of Let's Plays brought back all the memories
Fun fact, this game is actually referenced in Neon White as a collectable that can be used as a gift. I have no idea the relation between the two is, but pretty cool none the less.
I cannot describe the absolute jumpscare that was "oh, why is Neon White footage on screen?" leading into "THE TATTLETAIL DEVELOPERS ALSO WORKED ON NEON WHITE?"
Fun fact: I was genuinely confused when I saw Tattletail in Neon White now it makes sense. Another fun fact this game takes place the same time I was born. My birthday is December 22nd 1998.
4:52 WHAT. THE TATTLETAIL DEVELOPER, MADE... *neon white?????????* i know it must be very dumb of me to not research my stuff properly but i usually end up forgetting most things so, this genuinely ended up surprising me, i'm happy for them!
I was one of the first people to email Waygetter about merch, as PhatMojo was on track to making merch for the game, even having it on their website. They said that they were going to make merch soon, but nothing ever came of it. I had created a video on it *years* ago; Me and others were very saddened by this. 😢
5:54 "Let's check out everything he's worked on! Sonic...dreams?" (Gomo has traumatic flashbacks and screams) 6:40 "I'd take this guy put to lunch if I was straight-" Gomo Mama is female You can take her out to lunch Did you forget you were a woman? 14:01 "A bit of an informative way to refer to a stupid FUCKING narc who won't stop screaming when you're perfect situated in the worst possible location relative to each mechanic that you've gotta dash between in order to soothe this stupid fucking thing- it's cute!" 15:17 "Well sign me up! I LOVE banishing capitalist prodigies to the underworld!"
Also, slightly unrelated, but legit, my Tattletail AU is the thing i draw the most, and i'm pretty proud of that. Almost 7 whole years of hardly any content from it, but here i am, still drawing stuffs for it 😔👌
"If there was ever a game, I would have chosen to be taken to its conclusion, rehashed, and milked dry, I would've wanted it to be Tattletail." I really wish Tattletail stayed alive, but it just didn't, the developers actually had some CRAZY plans for the series, they even confirmed that they were trying to pitch a cartoon for it, but it never materialized. I respect them for not just making more games to ride the wave, something even Scott Cawthon was kind of guilty of. but it's been years now so yah, there's no chance it's making a comeback anymore, rest in peace. ):
Oh my god I love Tattletail. I had no idea the creator made other games I really enjoy such as What Remain of Edith Finch and Donut Country. If I'm being honest I wouldn't mind a Tattletail prequel or possibly a sequel but honestly I'd prefer a prequel.
Honestly I'm glad that Tattletail didn't go off to try to be a huge thing like other mascot horror stuff because it allows it to be more positively remembered than stuff like Hello Neighbor or Bendy which would go on to pry on more children than your favorite childhood youtubers. I prefer having one good release that doesn't have a huge following rather than an oversaturated franchise with a giant fanbase.
I wish we could get a sequel or something for Tattletail. Kaleidoscope did very little to clear up the questions people had, in fact I think it just confused people more. A sequel or prequel game that just makes more sense would be satisfying, but I don't think Waygetter has any plans to revisit it unfortunately.
There's no way it was supposed to be just the one story though, that's what bugs me. Because clearly there was more to uncover, given that Kaleidoscope was even a thing, and the easter egg that showed that there was more than one Mama Tattletail. It just leaves me scratching my head at why this was the end.
It makes me really happy to see people starting to talk about this again I really enjoyed Tattletail and have always felt it a shame how it just kind of disappeared I feel like it has a decent enough groundwork to make a sequel someday, but what we've got is already great. I've honestly always felt like Tattletail was what sparked the explosion of mascot horror, with FNaF being the initial laying of the dynamite. It showed indie devs that the market for this style of horror isn't just a FNaF thing but instead something that can be capitalized on, for better or for worse.
I remember seeing tattletale as a kid. Sure, maybe it wasn't a perfect, game, but it was pretty damn good, and it's a great part of my childhood that still gives me nostalgia whenever it pops up in my recommended.
Tattletale was my favorite as a kid because something about it was actually substantial compared to the others (to my ever discerning eye as a 9 year old)
I remember being at a friends house and messing around with his furby, it was a red one he had called foxy(yes as in fnaf) and we took the batteries out but it just kept going, we screamed ran out the door and across the street leaving our moms so confused lmao
A tiny bit off topic, but when I was younger and played tattletale i realised that the lay out of the house in the game is almost identical to the lay out of Franklin’s house in GTA5. Has anyone else noticed this?
The game didn't live all that long however the thing i find that put it above most other mascot horror games is that instead of selling out The game had it's run and chose to die with integrity
I hate how tattletail, an actually good product of 'mascot horror' died shortly after it was released. Meanwhile, slop like bendy and hello neighbor, although meeting the same fate as tattletail, had it way further down the line, and made a lot more money. Tattletail was such a good game, and I think that kaleidoscope, even with it's flaws, was a bright sign that they were trying to experiment with something that they put a lot of passion into! Meanwhile, hello neighbor was still trying to wrap their brain around how physics work. I just think it's sad that the state of sales in horror games is calculated by the amount of braindead children clicking on let's plays of a crappy 'horror' game. Unfortunately, that's the market we live in, and there is barely anything we can do about it. Also learning that they also made sonic dreams brought back some HORRIBLE suppressed memories, thanks. (that game is really nostalgic to me for some reason tho)
So funny story I've made Tattletail part of my Christmas tradition when December rolls around and every year I end up rewatching the same let's play videos and listen to the fan music instead of normal Christmas music
Im still Sad they diden't made a Furby-like tattetail toy that Just act like a normal furby but somehow more cursed and taking advantage of things like a clock or Bluetooth to propositally mess with the owner in the middle of the dawn
you say mix results but tattle tail was kinda a step in the right direction with the "nostalgic horror" using the same uncanny nature that furby shared with the chuck e cheese animatronics to make an horror game off the furby

I was one of the first people to email Waygetter about merch, as PhatMojo was on track to making merch for the game, even having it on their website. They said that they were going to make merch soon, but nothing ever came of it. I had created a video on it *years* ago; Me and others were very saddened by this. 😢
Fun fact: I got a shaker flashlight like the one from tattletail for Christmas. I did not sleep that night.
Gomo you're so funny and witty, I love your gut-punch style editing and quick hitting jokes!
JUSTICE FOR SUPERBERNARD748 😢
sis your voice is fucking great
i'm glad tattletail didn't become a cashgrab like most mascot horror franchises :))))
5:54
"Let's check out everything he's worked on! Sonic...dreams?"
(Gomo has traumatic flashbacks and screams)
6:40
"I'd take this guy put to lunch if I was straight-"
Gomo
Mama is female
You can take her out to lunch
Did you forget you were a woman?

"A bit of an informative way to refer to a stupid FUCKING narc who won't stop screaming when you're perfect situated in the worst possible location relative to each mechanic that you've gotta dash between in order to soothe this stupid fucking thing- it's cute!"
15:17
"Well sign me up! I LOVE banishing capitalist prodigies to the underworld!"
i was talking about the phone guy
@@gomotion oh ok
I genuinely can't believe the guy who made this, made Neon White and you give Tattletails to Neon Violet
Also, slightly unrelated, but legit, my Tattletail AU is the thing i draw the most, and i'm pretty proud of that.
Almost 7 whole years of hardly any content from it, but here i am, still drawing stuffs for it 😔👌
Hehe me too!! :D
"If there was ever a game, I would have chosen to be taken to its conclusion, rehashed, and milked dry, I would've wanted it to be Tattletail."
I really wish Tattletail stayed alive, but it just didn't, the developers actually had some CRAZY plans for the series, they even confirmed that they were trying to pitch a cartoon for it, but it never materialized.
I only found your channel a few days ago but your face has such an engaging cadence I love it sm
thank u!!! :D you should watch some of my more recent stuff i promise its better quality now LMAO
Your crimes against Bernard shall be repaid tenfold in blood.
wha?????
@tavi69420how it taste lil bro
There's no way it was supposed to be just the one story though, that's what bugs me. Because clearly there was more to uncover, given that Kaleidoscope was even a thing, and the easter egg that showed that there was more than one Mama Tattletail. It just leaves me scratching my head at why this was the end.
It makes me really happy to see people starting to talk about this again
I really enjoyed Tattletail and have always felt it a shame how it just kind of disappeared
I feel like it has a decent enough groundwork to make a sequel someday, but what we've got is already great.
Your voice passes more and more with each video
Ngl I used to love Tattetail and I'm kinda mad at myself that I had COMPLETELY forgot about it until a couple months ago.
Tattletale was my favorite as a kid because something about it was actually substantial compared to the others (to my ever discerning eye as a 9 year old)
“Eat the rich” based tattletale, no tattling found here
I remember being at a friends house and messing around with his furby, it was a red one he had called foxy(yes as in fnaf) and we took the batteries out but it just kept going, we screamed ran out the door and across the street leaving our moms so confused lmao
I tried looking for this video on her channel but I couldn’t find it, I’m glad I saved it to a playlist :/
A tiny bit off topic, but when I was younger and played tattletale i realised that the lay out of the house in the game is almost identical to the lay out of Franklin’s house in GTA5. Has anyone else noticed this?
they have the flashlight from night of the museum 2
The game didn't live all that long however the thing i find that put it above most other mascot horror games is that instead of selling out
The game had it's run and chose to die with integrity
Amazingly fond memories of this one for a game I have never played. Sr. Pelo's stream of it is fucking legendary.
i like the character design of tattletail, hes just a little guy :)
neon white was made by the tattetail guy??? what!!
edit: sonic dreams was an unexpected gorilla punch
When I saw TattleTail in Neon White I felt like I got whiplash remembering it
So funny story I've made Tattletail part of my Christmas tradition when December rolls around and every year I end up rewatching the same let's play videos and listen to the fan music instead of normal Christmas music
New gomotion upload, my day is good.
Mission successful. Gomo plushie successfully ordered.
27:49 BASED GOMOTION?!
Bernard bruh
one of the best things to come out of this franchise was the DAGames song
OH MY GOD I LOVE TATTLETAIL SO MUCH I'M SO GLAD MORE PEOPLE ARE TALKING ABOUT IT
No way this gets seen but I finally got my plushie and I am happy
just remember they showed this game on Disney XD
Im still Sad they diden't made a Furby-like tattetail toy that Just act like a normal furby but somehow more cursed and taking advantage of things like a clock or Bluetooth to propositally mess with the owner in the middle of the dawn
Yeah, I would've loved that too
But it would legit be very hard to make with all the copyright stuff, too
OH NO NOT THE SONIC DREAMS COLLECTION NOOOO NOOO BAD NOOO DIDN'T NEED TO BE REMINDER OF THAT
you say mix results but tattle tail was kinda a step in the right direction with the "nostalgic horror" using the same uncanny nature that furby shared with the chuck e cheese animatronics to make an horror game off the furby
PFFFF THE OH, AGAIN GOT ME IN THE BEGINING GREAT ADD PLACEMENT 🤣
