Watching this for when I’ve had kids an they are out of the house so I can start a farming hobby. I’m 21 not even graduated yet and I haven’t had any kid lol. I love this channel, so cozy to watch.

With a bit of editing help, this channel could explode. It’s unique and fascinating.
Thank you. Editing is a bit of an issue on the longer videos especially.
@@DowdleFamilyFarmssend it over my way . I can edit these down
I enjoyed the video. We fed hogs garden waste, and milk. Sounds like home. . Thank you.
Sounds great! How many did you have?
@DowdleFamilyFarms Seldom more that a dozen head. That was the 1970s. Farming was going bigger.
Yes, farming has been getting bigger and its made food cheaper, but also created problems too unfortunately.
Great !
indeed
I loved this video..thank you! I have a question: there are 9 essential amino acids...are all nine needed to help the pigs grow? I'm trying to grow soy beans now but they are ready however I have access to black eyed peas but they only have 2 of the 9 amino acids.
Soybean (the grain itself) has raw anti nutrition components (phytates, trypsin inhibitors, etc) that keep pigs from growing. The vegetation is fine but the beans/grain must be roasted first. Peas are a good source of lysine. In short, yes, all must be present in certain levels, but that's why growing diverse crops for them is better.
How much do good sized meat pigs typically sell for to slaughter? Im very interested in learning as much as i can about farming and cost as a vet student & aspiring homesteader!!
My dad’s a vet! We direct market our pasture raised pigs. We sell by the hanging weight but it’s usually $750-1000
What type of milk to you feed them? Does the type of milk matter for their growth?
Not really.
have you tried to use used grain from beer Bruery?
No. we do not have any in our area. Spent brewery and distiller's grains can be a decent source of protein, but it is also problematic if its a primary source of feed due to the different levels of nutrients. A lot of people use them, but i'm not sure if it would be worth it for me even if I had a free source close by.
How about feeding the pigs hemp ?
I don’t know what hemp you are talking about. Sunn hemp is a legume cover crop that I would try if I could but it’s considered a noxious weed for some strange reason in Mississippi. The fiber hemps I know nothing about.
@@DowdleFamilyFarms fiber hemp i heard is good feed
Probably more for ruminants than pigs, but I'm not sure. @@ohio_dino
