A Town With an Abandoned WWII Ammunition Plant | Charlestown, Indiana

- The Indiana Army Ammunition Plant was a massive site, consisting of 18,169.41 acres to be exact. When everything was completed, there were as many as 1700 buildings, 190 miles of roads and 92 miles of railroad tracks on the property. Charlestown State Park was created from land that was once owned by the Indiana Army Ammunition Plant. Inside the park today is some remnants of the old Rose Island Theme Park, which was popular in the 1920s. The Ohio River flood of 1937 wiped out the theme park for good. Other than that Charlestown appears to be your typical rural southern Indiana town.

My great great grandfather was the supervisor over this exact plant I am pretty sure this is the one. He was there and worked as the supervisor and ammunition specialist for 36 years.he answered directly to the president.

For me yet another Chris Harden gem. I like being surprised and I sure as heck was! I had no idea anything like this WW2 effort went on with this scale in the whole region. I have not seen anything like this where in depth knowledge is shared on this level with video. It is beyond the usual museum or documentary quality. I also appreciate exactly how the rankings are determined. That way the viewer can decide on their own how they would rank accordingto their own preferences. Excellent...as usual!
Interesting to hear they used captured German soldiers for some of the factories. I appreciate the work you go to for these videos Chris. Not a bad town if you want to live cheaply.
Best move I have made in my 76 years of life was to move out of Louisville, KY in 2016 where I lived for 32 years. The peace of living in Charlestown compared to the rising crime and bustle of Louisville is so desirable. If anything, Charlestown can be a retirement community for Louisville.

No, we do not.
Sounds like you're mixing up Charleston, SC and Charlestown, IN. Charleston SC was established in 1670 while IN was established in 1808.
Also we don't pronounce it like that. Its Charles-town.
