Imagine you're a new participant to BattleBots. You've built your first robot with your family, nothing too complicated, just a lifter bot. You enter your first ever match, you're not seeded high in the rankings. Surely your first match would be against someone just as new. But no, *You're fighting Tombstone*
Slap Box had it right in the beginning....had Tombstone on the run for a good thirty seconds keeping its weapon low power. If they had a bit more driving experience they'd have been able to keep him cornered and unable to utilize that blade. The moment he broke off and they didn't immediately follow is when it was all over for them.
You can see he clearly meant to hit it but being knocked upside down near the start of the match the blade was higher so couldn't land a direct hit, now why Tombstone has a good design of being able to drive on either side to avoid being flipped, should consider redoing the blade so it's more in the mid so it's at the same level no matter which side it's on.
@@Jarred-J254 Well no, that eliminates the possibility for it to get a different spot if facing an opponent who's defenses/offenses happen to be just above/below the blade. As is, if that were to happen, Tombstone could potentially end up flipped and the repositioned blade work to its advantage. Of course that same reasoning could potentially work against it, as well, but the risk reward of that happening is more favorable.
This encapsulates everything great about ray, absolutely surgical driving, attacks, and the humanity to back off and not completely destroy the dreams of two kids who are potentially the future of battle robots. Even when they had him playing the part of the 'bad guy', i never saw him destroy a team that didn't deserve it.
This was true when he knocked off Gigabytes top and the guy panicked trying to tapout. Ray yells over "STOP MOVING RON!" and ray backed off.. It was comical but also very sportsman.

I get that they entered a contest that would in all likely do massive damage to their creations, but that little girl screaming "please no please no please noooo" out of fear for her tiny little bot just activated Dad Mode for me.

Unfortunately, I'd say slap box isn't durable enough for a wedge bot (not their fault, the team is really new so can't blame them). Her wheels and side wedges came off in 1 hit, tombstone would have much more trouble taking the wheels off bots like witch doctor and yeti.
I've heard tell Ray is a good guy and helps out on the back stage rebuilds. And that's what it's really about the engineering , fixing and learning. I mean to hold your own in the ring with Ray is feat . Ray is a legend.
To be fair, if that first hit that sent tombstone flying didn’t happen, it would have been a curbstomp. Still, for what it did, they did a good job in lasting as long as they did.
Honestly held out longer then quite a few bots have in the past haha. even got tombstone flying a few times. Honestly some better wedges / fork configurations on that bot and it will be solid

I think they actually did really well against tombstone for a family team, they scored some really good hits on tombstone in the first phase, but unfortunately, that slapbox is built way too weak for a wedge bot.

Yes it is, many low tier competitors are given higher tier competitors, that way they have a chance to prove they can beat serious competition, you have to be able to fight everyone to win the Giant Nut

All I’ve really seen from it so far is it kinda swerving around the box and hope they hit something, which they just happened to do in their last two fights. But what happens when they fight someone like Whiplash or Tantrum, who are both really low to the ground and insanely durable?

Closest thing was HUGE taking on Son of Whyachi with wheels the team bragged were indestructible. Unfortunately for them, Whyachi proved nothing is indestructible.
That bit with the minibot has got me thinking-has anyone thought to (and is it legal to) make a bot that rides so low to the ground that Tombstone can't hit it?
It takes some serious mental fortitude to pick up the controller knowing you’re facing off against a Lawnmower of Doom that has a nasty reputation for shredding anything that isn’t 45-degree sloped ballistic steel.
It was indeed a good match. Tombstone takes a beating from these kind of bots. The fact that it goes flying after hitting it messes up its internals. Tombstone would absolutely lose against Duck! Edit: last rites lost against whoops in robogames 2017, I was proven right lol
The only one more thing to make tombstone more scary, is flipper, so when it is up side down, he can flip it so the spinning blade can hit mini bots, and get recked
that would be a cool tool to have in his box, the big issue though, is that shear kinetic energy the blade has, its effectively a massive Gyro, that why in some of the fights when Tombstone gets launched it kinda seams to hover basically, when the blade is at full speed, Tombstone is near impossible to flip, even if you do launch it
They could have defeated Tombstone. The driver just needed some experience in keeping up the wedge upfront. Overall this new bot lasted more than many other bots. Overall i appreciate the other bot. It was a good fight.
Is there a worse sportsman in battle bots than tombstones owner. Ive seen him chuckling as he destroying literal children's robots. Pretty sure i saw him destroy one robot even after it was incapacitated and the count down was happening
He's specifically cast as "the bad guy." On the inverse, he will back off from total destruction often when it's a family bot or friendly veteran.. this battle and tombstone vs gigabyte being good examples. I can't speak for the dude, but I've been told he's a pretty stand up dude when not playing his part
this fight is proof the committee that decides the battlebot matches want the fan favorite bots to make it to the playoffs for more money, they always have a rookie bots fight other rookie bots and never veterans UNLESS the veteran isnt doing good then you use the rookie as an easy win to let them in to playoffs and get more views which gives more money
Low seed vs high seed is extremely common in pre and early tournaments. The same is done in college sports all over. Are you sure they're not just doing what most sports brackets do?

this fight is proof the committee that decides the battlebot matches want the fan favorite bots to make it to the playoffs for more money, they always have a rookie bots fight other rookie bots and never veterans UNLESS the veteran isnt doing good then you use the rookie as an easy win to let them in to playoffs and get more views which gives more money
Low seed vs high seed is extremely common in pre and early tournaments. The same is done in college sports all over. Are you sure they're not just doing what most sports brackets do?

I guess I can understand people not linking it and / or not knowing it is common practice in sporting, it does seem mean spirited
