- Chinese aircraft carrier Shandong passed close to the northern Philippines on its way to drills in the Pacific, Taiwan claimed. Taiwan’s Defence Minister Wellington Koo said Shandong "did not pass through the Bashi Channel", the route usually taken by Chinese ships. The Bashi Channel is a waterway separating Taiwan from the Philippines. The Chinese carrier group “went further south, through the Balintang Channel" between the Philippines' Batanes and Babuyan Islands. The Philippines military said it was concerned with the deployment of the Chinese carrier group. Watch the video to find out more.

Malaysia submitted a diplomatic note to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres on Saturday rejecting a filing from the Philippines to the UN.
Manila had registered its entitlement to an extended continental shelf in the Western Palawan region of the South China Sea, defining the seabed areas over which it has sovereign and exclusive rights to exploit for natural resources.
Malaysia said it “categorically” rejected the Philippines’ filing on the basis that the extended continental margin in the submission “was projected from the baselines of the Malaysian state of Sabah”.
“This clearly disregards Malaysia’s indisputable sovereignty over the state of Sabah,” the diplomatic note said.
Malaysia’s protest came just as the country’s foreign minister, Mohamad Hasan, paid a courtesy call on President Ferdinand Marcos Jnr in Malacanang Palace and met his Philippine counterpart, Enrique Manalo, on Monday.

Moreover, “armed attack on any Philippine armed forces, public vessels or aircraft in the Pacific would not have to occur within the Philippine metropolitan territory or island territory under its jurisdiction in the Pacific in order to come within the definition of Pacific Area in Article V.” Thus, armed attack on said forces or vessels taking place in undisputed maritime areas in the South China Sea would fall within the scope of the MDT.

pH was the one who stole Thitu Island from China in 1971 and then bong bongs dictator father illegally annexed the islands in 1978. Before pH invaded and annexed the island they had no claims and China had sovereignty of the islands and personnel there since WW2 ended.
Now pH tries to play victim and ignore all Relevant historical facts and international law and are trying to justify their invasion and theft and illegal annexation by using UNCLOS and EEZ. Sorry, but unclos or eez does not allow you to invade and annex other countries land and territory.
PH gov is the successor state of USA colony and only inherited what USA controlled and claimed was pH at the time. You can't just ignore all historical facts and international laws and treaties because you don't like history. Because when you do, it then becomes a contest of who is the stronger country who can use force to get their way. MIGHT becomes right.
It is like how Britain colonized hong Kong and previous dynastic government of China was forced to hand HK to Britain for 99 years. Even after China had revolution and had every right to take hk by force in 1949, they did not and kept their word as the successor state of the previous government/rulers of China.
Also, if anyone was curious and wondering just how did pH managed to successfully invade and annex Chinese islands when China is so strong and pH is so weak? That's because the recognized China at that time and the China who had their island taken from them was none other than the Republic of China or ROC, otherwise known today as Taiwan.
They were totally reliant on US protection and USA probably forced them to accept it so they can continue to focus on fighting against PRC, which later in 1971 replaced them as the sole legitimate government of all China(including Taiwan) which the UN and world recognized. Before the order was given for them to be kicked to the curb since PRC got enough votes in the UN to replace them, to save face they pre-emptively quit the UN and have never been invited back since, although these days they would love nothing more than to get UN recognition and be part of the only globally accepted and recognized international system. But bad luck, since UN is only for recognized sovereign nation states, and not separatist rebel provinces.
When you know history, pH and Taiwan/ROC claims are comical and them teaming up like best friends instead of enemies who are also in the same dispute and Taiwan also having the exact same claims as China is even more hilarious.
