Bungie recently posted a season 23 weapons preview which featured the insanely strong Osteo Striga. Spoilers, it's getting a nerf, but spoilers, it'll still be really good. We also talk about other season 23 things and discuss some stuff that happened in other TWIDs that are either live in game already or are coming in Season 23 or the farther out future.

Welcome to Destiny Community, circa Never changed
The passive shield regen on glaives is honestly the biggest change in this patch IMHO.
It may not be much now but the fact that it's there means they'll tune it in the future to be better. I'm just glad shields aren't locked away behind projectile damage anymore.
Huge for glaives with an alt fire/the exotic glaives, a full support warlock may now be possible
@@Double0hTaterscrew the solar synergy with the healing turret glaive, run stasis for double turret build
I think people are sleeping on how big of a buff this is for vexcalibur
I'm PUMPED for these glaive changes. I keep 3 on me at all times-Intent Vex and my favorite Nezerac-so hearing my most used weapon type is getting buffed like this has me stoked. Add the changes to karnstien armlets, and i don't think my clan mates will harp on me for stabbing everything
For reference, current striga poison has 90% more damage against red and orange bars than it will after the update, and 53% more damage against everything else.
To say it a different way (because math can be confusing to people) - currently Osteo gets a 1.9x multi against red/orange and 1.53x against everything else (because of some silly stuff about how weapon damage is calculated), and it loses that next season. So its poison is effectively going to be 1/2 its current damage against red and orange bars and 2/3 its current damage against everything else, matching the damage of Necrotic Grips' poison right now.
Where are these numbers coming from?
@@EdenPorterMusicwill it still be worth using? Returning player here and just got my Necrotic grips couple days ago would be pretty bummed if it’s as hard a nerf as starfires was.
@@xDidddle the "destiny 2 outgoing damage spreadsheet" by @mossy_max under the "weapon combatant scaling" tab.
PvE basically takes the PvP numbers and multiplies them by a certain amount. Usually this makes things balanced for their range, but any effects (like headstone, jolt, dragonfly, or osteo striga poison) shared between weapon types will also get that same bonus.
So dragonfly on a handcannon would deal ~88% more damage to minors compared to dragonfly on an auto rifle.
@@EdenPorterMusicwow that is way clean explain then any video i seen.
Also it's unnecessary nerf and bring it to normal I guess , seems like no reason to use it that much especially in hard content, while wishender one shots red bar and get rid of shield
I’d say trinity ghoul is also up there with kind of ridiculous, but you have to actually kill things so it’s not as good
T ghoul is balanced because it falls off hard in any underleveled content.
@@formxr very true. Kinda toxic on momentum control though
Vex is definitely gonna be a solid pick. Combine it with Rain of Fire warlock exotic, which lets you gain radiant on fusion rifle kills, you'll be able to annihilate barrier champions.
Hell, RoF is already a solid exotic all on its own so it's nice to have one of the better exotic primaries to pair with it further buffed

crockpot theory: the danger zone changes with rockets will allow for rocket jumping. idk if any rocket has bipod/danger zone but that would go hard, theoretically
Or grenade launcher jumping (maybe)
Currently Apex Preadator is the only rocket with Danger Close/Bipod (Once again showing itself as the best legendary rocket lol)
Danger Close is one of those perks that can commonly be a first or second slot weapon perk. So I fully expect a world drop/seasonal/ritual weapon next season to have Clown Cartridge/ Danger Close for the people that don't raid.
Crockpot theory?
Apex can get danger zone bipod
Danger Zone significantly reducing self damage on rockets even more (perhaps to 0) would be a huge buff and add more usage in tight boss damage scenarios.
Finally, I can rocket jump like Soldier.
At the end of the year please do a 'guns of the year' kinda thing (sorta like the movie awards) for weapons in d2. Could be overall gun of the year, best raid weapon, best weapon you couldnt take off, etc.
density 2 is a pretty cool guy. eh kills aleins and doesn't afraid of anything
Glaive head here, keep an eye on Lubries the Vow glaive, swash and grave robber was already the smoothest PVE projectile buff experience ever, so the buff is gonna be really nice!
Not Sure about pvp tho, a shotgun before the glaive shield goes up will always shut down a glaive. We just have to see if passive shield regen might be too much or not
Considering you can hit about 15s max shield duration, 1%/s means you get about 1s of shielding every 7s you hold it out. That's pretty huge. Not to mention that Impulse Amplifier didn't get nerfed, so you can stack it on top of the 30% projectile speed buff. If you slap on Wings of Sacred Dawn, you can backhop into shield and pretty much completely nullify shotguns.
The opening KILLED ME omg 😂😂
Any encounter where linears are better than rockets (Which is like maybe 3 encounters) whisper is better than a linear but the issue is whisper has like 10x more flinch like half the stability and is more punishing on miss this buff will help it gain even more of an advantage in oryx but it needs less flinch and more stability if it's going to see use in my opinion.
tbf just wait for it to be a craftable weapon and problem solved lol
Especially since snipers require you to also be precise, i would like a trade off for the DPS. Hopefully we'll get some snipers up there that aren't just Izanagi's lol
@@dragonridernate2770 Cloudstrike is now pretty good though like Whisper it suffers from flinch though it doesn't suffer from stability as much.

my necro!
Hopefully that danger zone change goes crazy. I've had a Hothead with threat dector and danger zone since pre witch queen (it's mostly for me to make jokes with lfg about my "best rocket"), so it would be funny to actually use it even if it's quirky
On the change for Enhanced Kinetic Tremors being brought up to 10 hits from 9, I heard that (supposedly) to allowed you to kill on any resilience with three body shot bursts. Which was... kinda strong.
Enhanced only appears on chattering bone as far as I'm aware, and it's not exactly ripping through crucible by any stretch.
Edge of Action bubble health drop *I think* is there to combat the bubble-and-stasis combo. Not sure if you've seen that, but drop a baby bubble at a boss's feet and then use stasistitan super within the bubble so all the crystals stack up inside of the baby bubble, leading to major shatter damage, all stacked with synthos. The decreased bubble health now means (I think) bosses will be able to stomp the bubble to death.
My thoughts:
QSS is going to be stronger
Double sniper rocket rotations getting another buff, with the quick swap though they will be less good than quick swapping for closer range (snipers don’t benefit half as much from the glitch, possibly triple gl could benefit though or izzy double gl)
Osteo is going to be hurt a bit in higher level content, but not at all in anything below master tier really.
Glaives seem nicer, but I will have to see how it shakes out, possibly will be better for my lucky pants build than before, the shield passive regen is actually very massive for it as a utility weapon. The glaive melee delay is really nice as due to how it functioned I would actually melee into shots becauze there was no delay on that front.
Vex mytho is now likely going to be a different QSS, with the strength of it being long range damage as opposed to aoe. They clearly took a page out of QSS here when buffing it by recognizing QSS’ strenght is brute forcing enemies through its strong grenade damage.
Can you explain why the auto rifle change will make it easier to use a legendary auto rifle instead of quicksilver storm? Isn't quicksilver storm also getting the buff, so the difference between quicksilver and its legendary counterparts are unchanged?
My thoughts exactly unless exotics dont get the buff but they wouldve said so i assume
Legendary autos are still a bit better after this patch
Because they deal more damage. If quicksilver gets it the legendarys still get a buff. Sometimes you have another exo with a legendary auto, therefore the auto still is less shit
@@doktorsmiles2034 This! Not everyone might have access to Lightfall to get Quicksilver, plus depending of your build and the champions in the activity you don't want to run just Quicksilver Storms
Rain of fire gives Vex radiance almost at all times so when using that it might as well be intrinsic anti-barrier.
Class glaives definitly gonna find some value in certain playstyles and builds, especially the Titan one that promises a stacking damage bonus. Perhaps some raid groups and Day 1's will find usage there.
However, I anticipate that the lack of access to perks/ traits will still hold these exotics back for most people. The glaive specific perks are just such a game changer in the way you can interact with the many mechanics of them and not having access to atleast some of them is going to hold them back a lot.
Granted, the potential for perks like Replenishing Aegis or Immovable Object could be too powerful on top of the exotic traits, so there's an argument against that but we'll see.
Datto I would love for nothing else for you to use Winterbite. I have loved this exotic since it released, got crazy hyped for Triton Vice cause of it (then immediately depressed) and basically bring it everywhere that is reasonable. Would love to see more people interact with glaives and see why glaive players enjoy them and why they wanted buffs.
That intro XD
Also Glaives have been actually quite good so far. I am excited for the changes cuz I really like them. And the warlock glaive will now be glued to my support build
Vexcalibur gonna be a choice in pvp for free over shield and quick firing
@@NobleCreatorr it's also quite good in PvE as well. It was already effectively the shotgun glaive so the increase to damage will go well with the skirmisher playstyle it suggests.
@@shadowlight6084 it was already good in PvE mid content before yea
As someone who loves using Glaives for add clear, this is a welcome buff.
Datto will finally be able to run those Rare, Blue Quality Sparrows again
I like this sort of full wrap video
I think Osteo was made with accessibility in mind first and foremost, so it's hard to imagine it ever getting a serious nerf.
Datto, Please more unedited videos like this. They are perfect
Datto having to use a lengendary auto rifle after using quicksilver for a prolonged amount of time is like coming down off drugs.
It'd be awesome if we got more DPS comparison videos actually comparing things like Whisper vs. Leviathans breath vs. Sleeper. I know you said you stopped doing as much DPS testing because newer channels have specialized into it very well, but those channels generally cater more to super endgame content and have higher player expectations, like speedrunning, low mans, and super efficient clears. Im not that much of a gamer and would prefer recommendations from someone who isn't going to tell me to use slug swap grapple canceling for nightfall dps.
Funny, I was thinking about the original Mythoclast yesterday and how much I loved it. Forgot it was in D2, nor know when it was added since I quit years ago, but nice to see it’s still there.
Snipers just need the Revision Zero and Vex Mythoclast treatment. Make them champ nukers and they'll have a spot
at this point darci has so many weapons to compete with for the heavy slot that it should just become a special weapon
Also the curse thrall does work on body shot only if the enemy is affect by the poison effect
Personally for me, i think it’s mainly due to my perspective. But, Vex as a gun was personafied by its unique fire rate and capabilities, in some cases it was the Strat to deal like things, and was very good for me to out gun immortal when that was still running wild. However, since the nerf I personally haven’t found that much of a use for the gun, sometimes it’s fun to put on for PvE casual content, PvP it just doesn’t feel the same or can compete with things, especially like 450 RPM ARs. It’s just a gun of the past, and I’m glad bungie is bringing it back with, buffs that makes me want to put down other energy weapons or exotics.
I am a culprit of relying on Conditional as an exotic, QSS, or just running legendaries. Vex is my favorite gun, and I’m excited to see what it’ll be able to do in content that I do more which is end game content!
I think they should rework the Necrocasm catalyst to where you don’t need crits for explosions
Listen, your simple solutions that are already in the D1 counterpart are not allowed here. Begone. /s
I kinda hope that Danger Zone on Rockets will now let us rocket jump.
rapid fire snipes have always been a sleeper pick, the stasis world drop snipe has some serious damage output at the moment and it even keeps up with some heavy ammo weapons
Wonder if it's Bungie's way of balancing to always give their highest RoF frame the highest DPS. They usually have much greater magazines so reloading isn't any more of an issue for them (Unless it's a GL). There is the potential issue being the total damage they can inflict, but special ammo is much easier to come by than heavy without going out of your way for it.
At least in my experience, this is true so far for SMGs, ARs, Scouts, Snipers, Shotguns and MGs (But since MGs are heavy, the lower total damage of Rapid Fire MAY be a concern).
@@JoelHernandez-tz3vkit is, they mentioned this a very long time ago (year 1) with destiny 2's first rapid fire sniper buff iirc
@@walkermenkus104 And I assume this is a very outdated philosophy at this point.
@@JoelHernandez-tz3vk it doesn't seem to be an outdated philosophy to me, the fundamental reason is that you're still doing less damage per shot even if you have higher dps, so you've got to land way more shots to do the same amount of damage. On primaries the difficulty tends to manifest through having to deal with more recoil and usually having shorter range, so the tradeoff for that difficulty is more dps
They weren’t a sleeper pick they were pretty much the only viable sniper options for dps but snipers in general aren’t worth using. That’s a whole different thing.
I can’t wait for none of the DPS rotations to change
Still holding out hope that Colony will become strand, where the robot kills will generate threadlings.

Super excited for Vex Mythoclast Buff!
I still haven't crafted the Exotic Glaves, too much Wellspring grind for patterns.
I love how bungie says “we don’t want you to insta one shot with glaives” yet shotguns are still a must-have in pvp
Man, I love Whisper, Cloudstrike, its been a hot minute since I last used Izanagi.
But man, eating the slightest amount of flinch ruins any drive for using Snipers in PvE. Especially for Ammo refund chains like Whisper and my current fave rewind-FTTC Supremacy. I love them, maybe I'm just bad, but the flinch..just end me.
Love a glaive on my warlock with karnatein arms, run in and hits adds for constant healing
Lol that firing delay on glaive. Imagine halo 3 combos with glaives

very random but datto thumbnails are my favorite thumbnails from a graphic design perspective
Id love a strong aerial buff for snipers in that my hunter triple jump interrupts my aim down sight.
Since im a pve hunter, snipers are something i dont use much. Partly cause not great damage, ammo capacity, etc and other specials outclass and are easier.

I don’t have time to watch the vid rn but that title is a banger, love you datto, Gn:3
10:57 how did Datto determine Iz waa not getting the damage buff from that sentence? it says it includes exotic heavies, because special snipers are a given obviously because there are no primary snipers and if they didn’t include that everyone would be wondering about Whisper.
they attempted to clear potential confusion up and somehow Datto manages to still be confused lmao
As always, a great update vid!
Striga can be too slow. It will still be great in most builds. Like the glaive changes. Pulses needed this!
All the Striga nerf does is make the emphasis on abilities that much more important. The game is more and more ad dense: "oh we have newer gen consoles so we can have more enemies on screen" hence battlegrounds, and then they made battlegrounds into GM's. But they never buffed guns in PvE to make up for that enemy density change; they then also made a change to guardians not being able to level past the activity by locking our power levels for Legend content and anything above that, and they even nerfed mods by simplifying the whole mod system taking outliers out entirely to make the system more generic so it's easier to understand and digest. But then they made abilities 3.0 where you can just spam abilities which kill enemies you're not even looking at or shooting at. So, if the room is full of enemies and you want a gun that can try to compete with abilities then you need something that can kill enemies that you're not even shooting at hence voltshot, incandescent, destabilizing rounds, etc. which is funny because those best options synergize with abilities 3.0 making ability builds even stronger. Striga is like the one and only gun that can do what ability builds do for ad clear, but if you nerf that then you're only making abilities ever more important and removing gunplay in favor of ability spam, the only way this isn't true is if they also nerf abilities then making you have to shoot more often. They say they want 60% shooting with 40% abilities but their balancing is WAY off that mark. Banner Titan is soooo much more potent than Osteo Striga even with Necrotic Grip on Strand; I don't see why we can't buff weapons to do what abilities do if they're not going to nerf abilities so we at least get options instead of forcing everyone to spam ability builds because guns can't keep up with the new enemy density, power stabilization, and mod normalization. I just flat out disagree with Datto on this one.
Why are you acting like Osteo still can’t clear entire rooms? You are acting like they completely killed the weapon
@@zachhirschler Because in higher end content it literally can't clear entire rooms even right now with Necrotic Grip paired with it even on something like Strand with Unraveling on top of it all, it just helps to clear those rooms but slowly; but abilities can clear entire rooms of higher-end content very quickly and very easily and do it very effectively all the time on all characters, and things like Banner Titan just put Striga to shame in all aspects with no exceptions period. The main factor in Striga being a viable option over ability spam for ad clear is it's spill-over damage, ANY exotic primary can kill the thing you're shooting at with the 40% damage buff on shots to red bars, but the point is to be able to kill things that you aren't shooting at to make it desirable over ability spam. They effectively halved the spill-over damage on Striga with this nerf, but abilities are still just as potent as ever. Not to mention in this ability spam that as soon as the target gets frozen that spill-over damage from Striga just stops outright and no other spill-over options from weapons just stop on frozen targets like Striga poison does. There's a reason why literally NO ONE ever makes a GM guide video where they're like "you gotta be using Osteo Striga". More enemies on screen these days, stronger abilities than ever before, yet guns take the back seat in a shooting game because their spill-over damage isn't anything comparable to abilities and we tend to only use guns that make the ability spam build better unless we need something specific for Champs.
@@Marc-pu1wm just because abilities are as strong as they are doesn’t mean powerful weapons get a pass when it comes to nerfs. Osteo with necrotic grips on strand turned things into easy mode. Even not on strand Osteo is one of the best primary exotics. The poison is doing slightly less damage, oh no! the gun will still be viable
@@zachhirschler It's not easy mode at higher-end content. Abilities aren't "as strong", they flat-out dwarf any build around any exotic primary. Just watch guide videos made by people who test absolutely everything in the game. Literally NO ONE is making a GM build based around an exotic primary, they're all making them around abilities and exotic armor for the abilities. It was HOIL Arc Titans, then it was Starfire Solar Warlocks, then it was Assassin's Cowl Arc Hunters, now it's Strand Banner Titans. It's literally never Osteo Striga with Necrotic Grips, ever. The poison is doing half the damage, not "slightly less", but HALF. If I took half of everything you owned but said it was only "slightly less" then you'd be insulted and you'd be calling me a liar and a thief.
This nerf has nothing to do with balance for the sake of balance or else they'd actually be nerfing the thing that's strong enough to not warrant any other usage. This nerf is just because they no longer have to sell Witch Queen expansions 2 years later but they do want people to grind Crota's End for the Necrochasm since it's the new raid. It's Bungie's oldest trick in the book: nerf old thing to make new thing more desirable so people will grind for it, or in this case it's nerf old thing and buff new thing because new thing sucks that bad.
@@Marc-pu1wm I’m convinced you didn’t actually use it. I could kill one enemy and have the entire room dead. And just because people aren’t recommending a gun in videos doesn’t make it not nerf worthy. It’s one of the best exotic primaries and this does nothing to change that. Now you’ll just have to work a little harder for the reward it provides
Necro getting outlaw kinda didnt mean a ton because with even 1 loader, without outlaw, you hit the animation cap for how fast you could reload.
The only auto I use besides quicksilver is my rufus’ fury with reconstruction things a hitter but still quicksilvers the goat

Whisper of the Worm is great on Oryx is the encounter you're thinking of.
As many other will point out, the sniper buff is to ALL snipers, izanagi's is in fact, a sniper. It will in fact get the buff XD.
But other things for me, I feel the Vex buff is warranted for many reasons. 1, they are buffing auto's. Vex is not an auto, but it is. So it needs the 10% buff too to continue to be relevant when other auto's around it are getting buffed. 2. It does nothing right now. It has no purpose. It's worse quicksilver storm. You have to get kills to proc it's secondary fire mode instead of just doing damage, but after doing so the liner mode is barely worth it against yellow bars let alone bosses. This won't fix the second issue, but it will at least give it a purpose in NUKING a champion after cleaning up the red bars around it with crowd control, and that's something that might make it see a bit more use. (it's also just really hard to use it in the sandbox right now though since it gives you no subclass effects but takes up the slot where all the subclass primaries go. So instead of getting a good crafted fusion combined with quicksilver or a potent glaive for tanking, you get, 'golly I hope you got a riptide that had it's best roll nerfed to not be as 'jack of all trades' so you still can't deal with champions super effectively', or nothing, as no other special in the slot really competes). And 3. as you stated with the quicksilver point, why would I use Vex and have to build around the fact I don't have a champion primary, when I can use quicksilver and have anti barrier auto AND still have a fusion rifle that takes special? There's just no reason to use Vex right now and even less of one given it's sorry state of not really doing anything useful. It's a fun gun, I forever want it to be more useful, but it's to restrictive to really use in any way that feels good. Perhaps this buff will help? but I doubt it, especially with all auto's still getting buffed around it so it's still bottom of the barrel.
When it comes to Osteo, I know they said 'it won't move the needle much', but if they truly dropped it's damage to 'Necrotic DoT but +40% on red bars', that is a MASSIVE nerf compared to it's current state. Right now it does like, SO much more damage than anything else, it ramps up and skyrockets, but if it gets nerfed to necrotic grip levels it's going to be very easy to chose something else like thorn over it now. People weren't using necrotic grip before because it's DoT didn't translate into end game. If they weren't just flat out wrong with there statement here (which they could be), and it is indeed getting reduced to that level, it will not be capable of doing ANY of the crazy stuff it does right now. It will drop to 'maybe clear a room of red bars after two kills' territory like your anything with incandescent and volt shot, instead of also killing all the majors and half healthing the champion + boss. And that, is a *very welcome change* and I think 'it won't move the needle much' is just wrong if the main point is to be believed. (though who knows, maybe they just lied/are wrong with the main point, that could be it too).
I agree with your Vex Paragraph, the linear fusion mode i barely use because it doesnt feel like im doing anymore DPS against firing it full auto. I'm not saying it has to do broken level of damage but the damage buff to champions i hope will really change that. I would love to see it get that bonus on boss targets too but I'm satisfied with champs.
Datto Vex, as it doesn't have much aoe potential in gms is not anywhere close to a weapon like Sunshot, Ticcus, or Stigga. Like I love ToM but it has nothing against the weapons I mentioned in terms of clear.
I feel like the glaive projectile shot should have infinite penetration to combat wave frames
Lowkey that would actually at the very least be a cool perk. Pair that up with the crab arm and you have poor man’s forbearance lol
Agreed
harder to take off conditional finality for me tbh
Winterbite with warlock is a nice combo
Next season is technically the last season of destiny 2
@6:30 Does it make sense though when ALL Shotguns literally exist? Glaives don't increase your melee range, and you are more likely to close the distance with a boom cannon than a beatin' stick...
40 shots Thorn + lucky pants

I think its funni that glaives have a delay on the melee but shotguns dont. Like what makes the one shoot melee combo okay and the other over powered?

I was PRAYING Vex would get scorch. It didn’t. Sigh 😔
That would be cool, applying scorch on like a final blow of a linear shot. Explosions. Love the idea!
Ignitions on precision kills with the Linear mode would be kinda neat
Perfect way of putting it, sorry, i'm not good at wording things lol@@nullandvoid7524
Yeah no, i am in fact upset by having my bubble getting nerfed like that. Sad to see it go but stacking damage is nice
Oryx is the Whisper encounter
Glaives still need to work with mods which is what I thought this rework was about. You can't build craft with them because despite Bungie stated intention of making them like base melee not a single base melee mod or subclass ability that effects base melees work with glaives. Imo I think glaives are strong but I don't think they should be left out of build crafting for no reason.
Ngl ive been using snipers vs champs in gms and other things and they feel great several sniperrifles to not the best but great the buff will be nice
The thumbnail had me doing a triple take bro 😂
As a devoted Revision Zero fan, I am incredibly happy that I'm going to be doing 2x damage
Vex just feels bad to use from that reloading bug. If Bungie would fix that, I think people would use it more. It’s the primary reason why I don’t use it as much.
will you be streaming on this channel or your vod channel?
I can finally watch Datto streams now!
For literally years, no matter what computer I used or what I tried fixing, Twitch would NEVER WORK correctly, and I still don't know why. Finally, Twitch did one thing right and allowed simal-UA-cam streaming. I'm hoping I get to catch them now that it's a possability!
Oh, and I'm happy for Pulse Rifles, Snipers and (surprisingly) Glaives getting a buff. It's going to finally feel good playing PvE without an SMG or Auto in high end content.
Cheers as always!
