    I am English and in my eighth decade but I had never heard of the schwa until three or four years ago. Since then, I have watched videos and read up on the subject. This video is excellent and I’m pleased that the UA-cam algorithms brought it to my attention!
    People often say that English is not taught properly these days. Judging by the very limited amount of grammar that I appear to have been taught in the fifties and sixties, I would challenge that claim.

    You are the clearest English speaking teacher I've ever seen. While I can understand 70% of what you say, when I watch BBC this rate isn't even 20%.🙏🙏🙏

Nowdays, leaving in USA, I can see & hear the lingual differences between these two cultures!     Oh noooo this reminds me of learning the Phonetic Alphabet talking my SLT Degree. The ORAL Examination was a doozy. Brummies have a terrible time learning Lateral Fricatives.....(both voice and unvoiced) As I'm a Welsh person it's easy peasy 😁 such fun

    Dear Gill.
    I’ve just discovered your videos. They look very useful. My wife and I try to improve our poor English. The Schwa sound is just the same sound than the Catalan neutral vowel.

    In Russia, British English is predominantly studied as a foreign language at school, but schwa is not studied as deeply. There is no native speaker as a teacher to explain such nuances

      In the early 90s in Kyrgyzstan, one of the former soviet republics, there was an introductory phase of 3 months in fonetics in English language institutes, so one could get to know all pronunciation nuances.
